Freyna Toxic Trigger changed substantially with The First Descendant’s October 2026 rework. Instead of treating the skill as a simple poison follow-up, players now need to use Catalyst Zone to convert remaining continuous damage into an immediate hit. Patch 1.4.6 on October 22 also fixed how Toxic Puddles and Toxic Swamps reapply Room 0 Trauma once Catalyst Zone’s immunity ends.
The timing is the heart of Freyna Toxic Trigger. You want poison effects already on your targets before converting their remaining damage, then you need to account for a short window when enemies are immune to continuous damage. Here’s how the standard skill works, how to approach a rotation and why the Toxic Stimulation, Neurotoxin Synthesis and Toxic Mixture variants behave differently.
How Freyna Toxic Trigger and Catalyst Zone work
The basic Freyna Toxic Trigger grants Active Camouflage and Catalyst Zone. Active Camouflage hides Freyna from enemies for 15 seconds and provides a 20% movement-speed increase. Catalyst Zone converts a proportion of the remaining duration of continuous damage on affected enemies into immediate damage, then grants those enemies temporary immunity to continuous damage. The DEF increase also helps you survive the exchange.
| Standard Toxic Trigger effect | Official value |
|---|---|
| Active Camouflage | 15 seconds; +20% movement speed |
| Catalyst Zone conversion | 60% of remaining continuous damage |
| Continuous-damage immunity | 2 seconds |
| DEF increase | 80% |
These are the standard Freyna Toxic Trigger values from the revised 1.4.5 notes. They should not be applied automatically to every Transcendent Module variation, because some modules replace this skill with a different Catalyst Zone effect.

When should you activate Toxic Trigger?
First apply poison using Toxic Puddles, Toxic Swamps or another ability that leaves continuous damage on the enemies you want to hit. Then activate Freyna Toxic Trigger while there is still useful damage-over-time duration remaining. Catalyst Zone converts that remaining damage according to its stated rate. Using the skill before you’ve inflicted poison may give you camouflage, but it will not deliver the same conversion opportunity.
Following the conversion, the affected targets have a two-second immunity to continuous damage. You can reposition during that short gap instead of expecting new poison effects to apply immediately. Once immunity wears off, your remaining Toxic Puddles or Toxic Swamps can reapply Room 0 Trauma under the October 22 fix. That creates a natural sequence: apply poison, convert it, use camouflage to reset your position and reapply poison when immunity ends.
If you’re testing Freyna Toxic Trigger damage, watch the actual status effects instead of judging a single hit. The size of the burst depends on what you’ve already applied and how much duration is left. A recording taken before the 1.4.6 fix may show different reapplication behaviour.
What changed in patch 1.4.6?
Nexon fixed an interaction affecting Freyna and Ultimate Freyna: all their Toxic Puddles and Toxic Swamps can now reapply Room 0 Trauma after the immunity granted by Catalyst Zone disappears. That does not remove the two-second immunity or replace the standard 60% conversion figure. It makes the next poison application behave as intended once the immunity ends.
Patch 1.4.6 also increased several continuous-damage coefficients elsewhere in Freyna’s kit. For example, the default Venom Trauma Panic damage rose from Skill Power × 335.2% to 670.4%, and the Putrid Venom Decay value increased from 335.2% to 670.4%. Those changes can affect the damage you’re converting, but they are separate from Freyna Toxic Trigger itself.

Toxic Stimulation, Toxic Offensive and Toxic Mixture differences
The basic Freyna Toxic Trigger uses 60% conversion. Toxic Stimulation instead gives its Catalyst Zone to allies too, with an 80% conversion rate, two-second immunity and 80% DEF increase. That makes it a separate choice for team-oriented play rather than simply the same solo skill with a renamed effect.
When using Neurotoxin Synthesis, Toxic Trigger becomes Toxic Offensive. Its Catalyst Zone has a 90% conversion rate, again with two-second immunity and an 80% DEF increase. Neurotoxin also changes Venom Veil, Deterioration and Hypersensitivity. Our Freyna October rework guide covers the general changes, while the Neurotoxin build explains the specific status and Unique Weapon rotation.
Toxic Mixture uses Necrosis stacks and a separate Catalyst Zone damage mechanic, so copying the normal conversion timing won’t describe it accurately. Always read the variant displayed by your equipped Transcendent Module before treating the standard Freyna Toxic Trigger numbers as universal.
Where does Toxic Trigger help most?
Against grouped enemies that remain inside your poison areas, the apply-and-convert sequence is easy to practise. Try a repeatable encounter with normal Vulgus first, where you can see the poison status, Catalyst Zone immunity and fresh Room 0 Trauma application. The exact timing can be harder against mobile Commanders that escape your puddles before you convert them.
In Onslaught Stage 5, poison control is useful but doesn’t replace the need to stop Tyrants approaching the Energy Concentration Point. During Cradle of Evolution, some objects require firearm or melee hits and the laser puzzle needs interaction, so skills alone cannot finish every room. The Cradle reward guide explains why players farm that activity.
If you’re upgrading equipment alongside a Freyna Toxic Trigger setup, our Ancestors Module Fragments and readjustment guides cover that side of progression. The Prepping in the Dark module involves Ground DoT and Concealment, but it is not another name for Catalyst Zone.
Why is Room 0 Trauma not reapplying immediately?
The usual explanation is that the target still has Catalyst Zone’s two-second continuous-damage immunity. Patch 1.4.6 corrected what happens after that period: Toxic Puddles and Toxic Swamps can then reapply Room 0 Trauma. If a target is moving out of your poison area, you’ll also need to reposition before expecting more applications.
For reliable Freyna Toxic Trigger results, build poison first, convert when it has meaningful duration remaining and let the immunity finish before checking the next application. This timing takes advantage of the October 22 fix that allows Room 0 Trauma to return after Catalyst Zone’s immunity expires.
