OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal is a free starting item for every new Hardcore character on November 4, 2026. It can teleport you away from certain high-risk activities, and its automatic setting can trigger if you stop providing input and then take damage. You get one at the start, but the crystal is consumed when used.
Before your first dangerous encounter, configure the OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal and check that the activity supports its teleport. Jagex’s proposed 10,000 GP replacement price and Death’s Office seller are not confirmed as live.
How to get an OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal
Jagex says every new Hardcore Worlds character starts with a crystal in its inventory. You don’t need gold for that first copy. For replacements under existing OSRS rules, Rick sells crystals on the first floor of the Wizards’ Tower (UK naming) for 75,000 coins. The Mysterious Stranger at Ver Sinhaza, near the Theatre of Blood, also sells them for 75,000 coins.
The crystal is consumed when activated. Jagex has suggested a new 10,000-coin price and a Death’s Office shop, but the October 22 news post describes those as desired changes. Check the shop and patch notes at launch before planning to buy replacements from Death.

OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal: How to configure auto-teleport
Right-click your crystal and select Configure. Choose the automatic inactivity threshold, anywhere from 2 to 300 seconds, and check the Auto-afk setting. When you take damage after that amount of time without input in an eligible area, the crystal can teleport you out. The hit can deal zero damage and still meet the trigger condition.
The auto-teleport requires a damage hit after the inactivity threshold; the timer alone doesn’t make you teleport. Mouse movements, camera zooming, typing, clicks and taps count as activity and restart the inactivity calculation. A moving character won’t trigger the automatic escape until movement stops, even if the required time has elapsed.
A separate existing exception applies just after login or a world hop: in an eligible area, taking damage can trigger the crystal immediately, even when your configured inactivity time has not passed. That behaviour is documented by the OSRS Wiki and should be considered when choosing settings for raids.
OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal: Where does it work?
| Current supported content | Escape use |
|---|---|
| Barbarian Assault | Exit during an emergency |
| Chambers of Xeric | Raid escape |
| Inferno | Leave the challenge |
| Pest Control | Leave the minigame |
| Theatre of Blood | Raid escape |
| TzHaar-Ket-Rak’s Challenges | Escape this particular activity |
| Tombs of Amascut | Raid escape and certain Wardens situations |
Even with an OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal, you can’t escape every activity that counts as a fatal Hardcore death. For example, TzHaar Fight Cave and a Player-owned House are on Jagex’s dangerous-death list, but not the documented Escape Crystal teleport list. Don’t confuse Fight Caves with TzHaar-Ket-Rak’s Challenges; they are different activities.

Does wearing the OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal in your ring slot help?
An Escape Crystal can be equipped in the ring slot and configured for ring-of-life behaviour. That mode has an important drawback: the existing OSRS item cannot use its listed raid and minigame teleport in that configuration. Check the item’s Configure setting before entering an activity where you need the emergency escape function.
The crystal can also be used to teleport a group member when both participants have a crystal and the relevant option is configured. Both items are consumed. This can help a coordinated team, but it does not replace individual escape planning or make an unsupported location safe.
OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal: 10,000 GP price and poison removal
| Change | Confirmed existing rule | Jagex’s proposal |
|---|---|---|
| Replacement price | 75,000 GP | Reduce to 10,000 GP |
| Sellers | Rick and Mysterious Stranger | Add Death |
| Status effects | Teleport doesn’t ordinarily clear them | Remove poison, burn and similar effects |
| Free Hardcore starting copy | New feature | Confirmed for launch |
The proposed changes are intended to help Hardcore players, but Jagex has not confirmed their implementation in the October 22 rules post. Use the confirmed starter crystal and existing teleport mechanics until Jagex announces the proposed improvements as deployed.
Why an OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal may not save your run
An auto-teleport can fail to trigger when you keep moving the mouse or tapping, when your character is still moving, when an encounter is unsupported or when damage kills you before the escape succeeds. It isn’t a second life and cannot reverse Death’s Reset or Transfer choice.
Check the activity and timer before dangerous combat. Our Fractured Archive inventory guide helps with supplies, while boss routes and the raid overview explain the encounter. The Hardcore death penalty still applies even when you’re well-equipped.
OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal: First-run setup checklist
Keep your free crystal accessible; open Configure, set a deliberate inactivity window, and make sure you aren’t accidentally using ring-of-life mode instead of the desired escape behaviour. Check the supported locations before risking a raid. Short settings can trigger unwanted teleports after a pause; long settings give a disconnected character more time to remain exposed.
If you’re also preparing a new login, Jagex Account Migration and account upgrade help address access problems separately. The OSRS Hardcore Worlds Escape Crystal protects against selected gameplay dangers, not account lockouts or an already completed death.
