OSRS Jagex Account Migration becomes mandatory for legacy Old School RuneScape logins on November 17, 2026. If you still use an old username or login email and password, you’ll need to upgrade to a Jagex Account to keep signing in after that date. Jagex confirmed the date on October 16.
Your characters won’t be deleted if you miss the cutover, but you’ll be unable to play until you finish upgrading. Here’s exactly how to do it, what happens to existing accounts, and how to claim the extra bank space and other benefits.
OSRS Jagex Account Migration: November 17 deadline
November 17 is the date Jagex plans to switch away from legacy logins. Jagex has not announced an exact switchover hour. Upgrading your old login before November 17 avoids an interruption when you next want to play, but missing the date doesn’t permanently lock or erase your characters.
| Current account | What happens |
|---|---|
| Old username/email login | Upgrade required for future login after November 17 |
| Already upgraded to Jagex Account | No additional migration needed |
| Steam, Apple, Google or Game Center login | Platform login still works; Launcher and certain web tools require a Jagex Account |
| Legacy account that misses November 17 | Character stays safe but can’t log in until upgraded |
How to upgrade for OSRS Jagex Account Migration
Visit official RuneScape account settings and log in to the legacy character you want to move. Press the green Upgrade Now button. Choose a new Jagex Account email and password, and follow the prompts to finish creating it. You’ll be asked whether to import another character before finishing.
Once the OSRS Jagex Account Migration is complete, sign out of the Jagex Launcher if necessary and sign back in using your new Jagex Account credentials. You’ll then select the character you want to play. Your character’s name and progress stay intact. However, importing a character into a particular Jagex Account is a permanent choice.

Can you complete the migration without your old email?
Yes. For OSRS Jagex Account Migration, Jagex confirms that you don’t need to verify the email currently associated with your legacy character. What you do need is the character’s login username or login email and password. You can choose a fresh, accessible inbox as the email for your new Jagex Account.
If you have lost the password too, use Jagex’s official account recovery and Support services. Don’t enter your login credentials into unsolicited links, player messages or third-party tools promising to do the migration for you. Protecting the new email is especially important because it will become the login for all imported characters.
OSRS Jagex Account Migration rewards
Jagex says Old School RuneScape players receive 20 additional bank slots per associated character and Fancier Boots for upgrading. RuneScape players get a five-minute extension to the logout timer. The OSRS Jagex Account Migration announcement doesn’t introduce a separate one-day November bonus you need to rush to claim.
A Jagex Account can now hold up to 50 characters, an increase from the previous 20. That is useful if you play multiple Old School accounts, but characters cannot be removed once linked. Check your account choice before confirming the import.
What happens if you don’t upgrade by November 17?
Jagex says your character is still stored safely. After the OSRS Jagex Account Migration cutover, your old login won’t work until you complete the new account setup. When you next try signing in, you’ll be prompted to upgrade; the November date is a login requirement, not an account deletion deadline.
If you haven’t played for months, you can still upgrade when you return. You don’t need to start over or create another OSRS character. Use the account upgrade process with your existing character details when you return.

Will RuneLite, Steam and mobile still work?
Approved clients including RuneLite remain supported after OSRS Jagex Account Migration, through the Jagex Launcher on desktop. Mobile character switching is supported for Old School RuneScape Jagex Accounts. Steam, Apple, Google and Game Center account holders can still use their existing platform login, but need a Jagex Account for the Launcher or certain website services.
Jagex has also launched the Old School Linux Launcher beta and plans to release an Apple Silicon Jagex Launcher by the end of October. These launcher changes accompany the migration but are separate from your character’s bank slots and other rewards.
Does the upgrade reset two-factor authentication?
The OSRS Jagex Account Migration replaces the character’s previous MFA. New Jagex Accounts use email authentication by default, and you can switch to an authenticator app and save backup codes through account settings. Make sure the email you’re using is secured with its own strong authentication too.
Jagex says over 89% of active players have already migrated. If you haven’t, the account upgrade should be done directly through Jagex, not a link from an unrelated website.
