ESO Werewolf unlocks a transformation and a separate World skill line, letting you fight in beast form instead of staying on your normal weapon bars. A player can infect you at a Werewolf shrine, or you can hunt for rare infectious NPC werewolves.
Complete Hircine’s Gift to unlock the transformation. Update 49 made the introductory quest easier to access without paying, while Update 50 refreshed the werewolf combat kit. You can get started through a free quest starter, a player bite or a naturally occurring infectious enemy.
Where to become a Werewolf
You can still arrange a bite with another player at a ritual shrine in Reaper’s March, Bangkorai or The Rift. Update 49 also added marked shrines in Auridon, Glenumbra and Stonefalls, with NPCs that help start the transformation quest. Infectious creatures near existing shrines no longer have the old night-time spawn restriction. To infect another player yourself, you need the appropriate Bloodmoon passive; merely being transformed isn’t enough.
Player bite and Hircine’s Gift
For a player bite, meet at a ritual shrine and let the other player use the infection ritual. Interact with the Ceremonial Scroll and follow Hircine’s Gift. If you’re using the free Crown Store quest starter instead, activate it and travel to the marked NPC at a shrine to begin. Complete the quest objectives and the transformation tutorial to unlock the World skill line.

What if Hircine’s Gift is missing?
Check Skills → World and your journal before restarting anything; you may have already unlocked the transformation. If a quest step fails, try leaving its portal instance and returning after ten to fifteen minutes, as Bethesda recommends. Since Update 49, free quest starters and the new shrine NPCs provide a route back into the introduction; don’t spend money or repeatedly abandon a quest to fix a missing prompt.
Free Werewolf quest starter and new shrines
There is no longer a paid Crown Store bite or curse unlock. Update 49 removed those purchases and added a free quest starter so you can start Hircine’s Gift without buying an infection. You can also visit the new shrine NPCs in Auridon, Glenumbra or Stonefalls. If you were cured after completing the quest previously, the new shrine NPC can help you regain the transformation.
How to transform into Werewolf form
Once the line is unlocked, purchase the Werewolf Transformation Ultimate and place it on your ability bar. Build the Ultimate resource during combat, then activate the transformation when it is available. Your human-form weapons and skill bars give way to the Werewolf abilities while transformed. Try the transformed abilities on ordinary enemies first, especially the attacks that help you survive or keep the transformation going.
How to level the transformation skill quickly
Unlike Vampire, you level the Werewolf skill line through kills while transformed, up to line rank 10. Find groups of manageable enemies, transform and keep fighting while you have form time remaining. Merely earning ordinary quest experience in human form isn’t the same thing. You can increase your efficiency by learning the transformation’s upkeep and selecting fights that let you survive longer, rather than chasing dangerous packs that immediately end your run.
What Update 50 changed
Update 50 refreshed Werewolf’s character models, presentation and combat abilities. Follow-up incremental patches adjusted several Werewolf effects and fixed visual or timing problems. An older guide describing a pre-refresh ability or outdated morph may no longer match the current menu. The changes don’t replace your original character class; Werewolf remains a separate World skill line. Check the updated ability tooltips before allocating all your Skill Points.

How to cure Lycanthropy
A Priest of Arkay in a major city Mages Guild can now cure Lycanthropy for free after Update 50. Examples include Riften, Rawl’kha and Evermore. There’s also a free cure through the Crown Store. Curing Lycanthropy doesn’t erase your Werewolf skill-line experience, even though you can’t use the transformed skills until you’re infected again. You can return to the condition later without starting your trained skill line from rank one.
Saving Werewolf with the Armory
The Armory System records your Werewolf condition alongside skills, gear, attributes and Champion Points. If you save a build while infected, swap to a non-werewolf build and then reload the infected one, the Armory can restore the condition without losing line progress. Save the slot first before loading a blank build, because an empty configuration can deactivate the curse. This is useful if you want one build for human-form dungeon play and another for transformation-focused content.
