ESO Champion Points start once a character reaches level 50. From then on, experience earned on level-50 characters increases your account’s Champion Point total, letting you buy bonuses from Craft, Warfare and Fitness.
Those points are shared between characters on the same account and megaserver. They’re different from skill points and Class Mastery Points, and some bonuses need to be slotted before they work. Here’s how to unlock CP, spend it and avoid wasting your early choices.
How to unlock ESO Champion Points at level 50
Level one character to 50 to unlock the Champion System. If the account has no points, ESO awards a first Champion Point when you reach that milestone. Champion Points are shared across characters on the same account and megaserver, and characters below level 50 can benefit from assigned account CP even though they don’t earn new CP from their own experience yet. The official maximum obtainable total is 3,600 Champion Points.
How to earn CP after level 50
Questing, defeating monsters, clearing delves, playing dungeons, Trials and Arenas, and taking part in Cyrodiil all earn experience that counts towards Champion Point progression. You don’t have to grind a specific boss or complete a separate unlock quest. Concentrate on content you can finish consistently. Harder encounters can award more experience, but wipes and long travel times may slow your progress compared with ordinary quests or quick group activities.

The three Champion constellations
Craft holds utility and crafting bonuses, Warfare includes damage, healing and mitigation effects, and Fitness improves health and core character mechanics. Open the Champion menu, using the assigned key or controller menu option, and select one of the three constellations. New Champion Points are distributed between the three constellations in rotation, so each category grows as you level. A perk’s exact effect and point cap appear in its live tooltip.
How to spend your first points
Start with the effects that support what your character does most. A questing character may like movement and resource convenience, while a healer or tank may prioritise survivability and support. Select a constellation node, invest points up to its available limit, and check whether it needs to be slotted to become active. For slottable stars, buying the upgrade isn’t enough. Drag the star into an available Champion slot to activate it.
Slottable Champion stars versus passive stars
Some Champion perks are passive once purchased, while others are slottable and only apply after being placed in one of the available Champion slots for that constellation. Check the icon and tooltip after buying a star. An impressive-looking Warfare bonus sitting un-slotted may contribute nothing to your damage. Passive stars work as soon as you invest points; slottable stars only work once you assign them to an active slot.
Enlightenment speeds CP experience
The Enlightenment system grants extra account-wide CP progress each day. ESO’s official guidance lists 400,000 XP worth of Enlightenment every 24 hours, with unused amounts accumulating up to a twelve-day cap. While Enlightened, a Champion Point that normally needs 400,000 XP can be earned with 100,000 XP instead. Enlightenment speeds up how quickly you earn Champion Points, but the points you gain work exactly like any others.

Champion Points across characters
Once you’ve unlocked the system, all characters on the same megaserver share the accumulated CP pool. You can assign different stars to suit each character’s role rather than using the identical configuration for a tank, healer and damage dealer. The Champion Point balance isn’t a currency you spend permanently and lose from the account. It is a progression total that allows allocations within the Champion system. Different megaservers do not automatically share the same account progression.
How to change your ESO Champion Points build
Open the Champion menu and choose different nodes or equipped stars when your role changes. You can also store CP allocation in an Armory build alongside your attributes, skills and gear. Review your Champion Point setup after a major balance patch because star tooltips and performance can change. Class Mastery has its own separate two-point currency, so don’t confuse a new Class Mastery passive with something you can buy using CP.
