Bandai Namco confirms the Hello Kitty Party Land release date of October 29 on both systems. It was a simultaneous release, not a staggered launch. The Switch version works on original Switch models, while Switch 2 owners can choose either the backward-compatible Switch game or the native Switch 2 edition.
A native Switch 2 copy cannot run on original Switch hardware. If you are buying a game card for a family member, make sure the console on the box matches the machine they own. There is no PlayStation, Xbox or PC edition in this Nintendo launch.
Can Switch owners upgrade after the Hello Kitty Party Land release date?
No. The two Nintendo versions are separate products, and Nintendo explicitly says there is no Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. An original Switch purchase does not unlock the native Switch 2 version, whether free or at a reduced upgrade price. Buying that edition means paying for a separate copy.
Save data is separate as well. Moving a Switch game save to a compatible newer console is different from importing it into the native Switch 2 game. Nintendo says the two editions cannot share progress. You can keep using the Switch software on Switch 2 instead of starting the other version.

The UK eShop lists 3.1 GB for the Switch edition and 3.0 GB for Switch 2. You may need extra space for updates. Nintendo lists one to four local players on one system and one to four in its general online player listing, while Bandai Namco’s manual specifies online sessions for two to four people.
Online play requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Local multiplayer does not require that subscription simply to use the single-system mode. The game also supports solo play, so you can enjoy activities and explore without assembling a group.

Board Game Mode has three settings: Blooming Flower Festival, Tropical Twilight and Sparkling Neon Night. Players move by stopping a roulette wheel, trigger different spaces and collect the resource needed for their board’s goal. Petit Games offer quick solo activities while other players continue their turns.

Sanrio launched a free update with jinbei-style outfits for My Melody, Hangyodon and Chococat. Connect your Switch or Switch 2 to the internet, update the installed game and the costumes are added automatically. You do not need to preorder or redeem a special code.
