ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode arrives on October 21, 2026, giving players a new way to experience one of The Elder Scrolls Online’s Wolfhunter dungeons without joining a four-player group. Officially called a Solo Dungeon, this version lets you explore Hircine’s hunting grounds, listen to the story and complete encounters at your own pace.
The original March of Sacrifices remains available as a group dungeon, but the new version introduces optional difficulty modifiers, companion support and its own rewards. Whether you’re returning for the story or looking for a challenging solo experience, ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode offers several difficulty levels and collectibles worth unlocking.
When does ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode release?

ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode launches on October 21, 2026, alongside Season Two: Echoes of Skyrim.
The original March of Sacrifices dungeon becomes free for all ESO players on October 19, when the Wolfhunter DLC moves into the base game. This also includes Moon Hunter Keep, which receives its own Solo Dungeon version on October 21.
You won’t need to purchase Wolfhunter separately once it becomes part of the base game. However, the new solo versions won’t be available until Season Two begins.
How to enter ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode
March of Sacrifices is located in western Greenshade, north of Woodhearth. Its entrance is a shrine dedicated to Hircine.
Once the Solo Dungeon releases, you can access it through the Greenshade world map or travel directly to its entrance.
To enter:
- Open the world map and travel to Greenshade.
- Find March of Sacrifices in the western part of the zone, north of Woodhearth.
- Select the Solo Dungeon version from the map or at the entrance.
- Enter alone or bring an NPC companion.
- Choose whether to activate Meted Misfortunes for additional difficulty.
You don’t need to queue for a four-player group to play the solo version.
ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode also supports companions, so you can bring an NPC ally to help with combat. If you’d rather complete the dungeon entirely alone, companions are optional.
How difficult is March of Sacrifices Story Mode?
The biggest difference between the original dungeon and its solo version is the introduction of Meted Misfortunes.
These optional modifiers make encounters harder, allowing players to adjust the difficulty depending on their experience and character build.
There are four difficulty levels:
| Meted Misfortunes | Expected difficulty |
|---|---|
| 0 | Comparable to normal overland content |
| 1 | Comparable to a normal solo arena |
| 2 | Comparable to a veteran solo arena |
| 3 | Harder than comparable existing solo content |
With no Misfortunes active, ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode is intended to be accessible to players who primarily want to experience the dungeon’s story.
Activating one or more Misfortunes increases the challenge and provides additional reward opportunities.
One confirmed modifier is Pulled Punches, which reduces all damage you deal by 30%. ZeniMax adjusted this effect during testing so that it also affects Heavy Attack builds rather than disproportionately penalising particular playstyles.
The three-Misfortune difficulty is intended for experienced solo players looking for a challenge beyond veteran solo arena content.
ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode rewards
There are several rewards associated with completing the new Solo Dungeon, including furnishings, outfit styles, an item set and Undaunted Crests.
The confirmed rewards include:
| Reward | How to obtain |
|---|---|
| Tarcyr Trophy | Complete Solo March of Sacrifices |
| Tarcyr Bust | Complete Solo March of Sacrifices with an active Misfortune |
| Tarcyr Mask outfit style | Defeat Balorgh in Solo March of Sacrifices |
| Tarcyr Shoulder outfit style | Purchase from Veya Thenim using Undaunted Crests |
| Apex Hunter title | Complete the Marcher Meted Masochist achievement |
| Undaunted Crests | Complete Solo Dungeon content |
The Tarcyr Trophy is available through a standard solo completion, while the Tarcyr Bust requires at least one active Misfortune.
The Tarcyr Mask and Shoulder outfit styles are cosmetic rewards, separate from the equipment pieces belonging to the Tarcyr Monster Set.
How to get the Tarcyr Monster Set
ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode introduces the Tarcyr Monster Set, a two-piece equipment set associated with the new solo content.
Tarcyr focuses on defensive bonuses and controlling enemies rather than increasing damage directly.
Its listed effects are:
One piece: Adds 1,206 Maximum Health.
Two pieces: Taking direct damage while Battle Spirit is inactive causes your attacker to cower in Fear for two seconds.
Enemies that cannot be affected by Fear instead receive Major Cowardice for three seconds, reducing their Weapon and Spell Damage by 430. Either effect can occur once every 0.5 seconds.
This makes Tarcyr particularly interesting for defensive PvE builds that want additional protection when dealing with enemies at close range.
The Battle Spirit restriction is important because it prevents the set’s main effect from activating in situations where that effect is active, such as standard PvP combat.
These are the listed pre-release set effects, with the October 21 release determining the final live values.
How to earn Undaunted Crests
Undaunted Crests are a currency introduced for Solo Dungeons, allowing players to purchase additional rewards.
According to ZeniMax’s revised testing notes, completing a Solo Dungeon with zero Misfortunes awards 50 Undaunted Crests. This was increased from the original testing reward of 10 Crests.
You can spend Undaunted Crests at vendors located in the Undaunted Enclaves outside:
- Wayrest in Stormhaven
- Mournhold in Deshaan
- Elden Root in Grahtwood
Veya Thenim is the Crest Merchant associated with these rewards, including the Tarcyr Shoulder outfit style.
The merchant also offers dungeon-related reward containers. Purchasing curated dungeon set containers requires completing the corresponding Solo Dungeon first, rather than simply clearing its original group version.
This gives ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode a reason to revisit after your first completion, particularly if you’re collecting equipment and outfit styles.
How to unlock the Apex Hunter title
Players looking for an additional challenge can earn the Apex Hunter title through the Marcher Meted Masochist achievement.
ZeniMax confirmed this title reward in its later Update 51 PTS notes.
The achievement belongs to the Solo March of Sacrifices challenge content and is separate from the standard completion reward. Players interested in the title should check its in-game achievement requirements when Season Two launches.
March of Sacrifices Werewolf Prowl change
Werewolf players also receive a useful change to the March of Sacrifices encounters.
ZeniMax’s Update 51 notes confirm that player werewolves can use Prowl to avoid being teleported by Tarcyr.
Previously, this interaction could cause problems for players remaining in werewolf form. The updated mechanic gives werewolves a way to avoid the teleport without relying on another player.
This change applies to the March of Sacrifices encounter mechanics rather than being a separate reward or ability exclusive to Story Mode.
Is March of Sacrifices Story Mode different from the group dungeon?
Yes. ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode is a separate solo version rather than a replacement for the original four-player dungeon.
The group dungeon continues to offer its existing Normal and Veteran experiences, while the Solo Dungeon has difficulty options designed around a single player.
The main differences are the ability to enter without a group, optional NPC companion support, Meted Misfortunes and additional solo rewards.
For players who previously avoided March of Sacrifices because they didn’t want to rush through the story with a group, the Solo Dungeon provides a chance to experience Hircine’s hunting grounds at their own pace.
Is ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode worth playing?
ESO March of Sacrifices Story Mode brings something useful to both newer players and experienced dungeon runners. The easier setting makes the dungeon’s story more accessible, while the higher Misfortune levels offer a challenge for characters already comfortable with difficult solo encounters.
There are also worthwhile rewards beyond simply completing the dungeon, including the Tarcyr furnishings, Monster Set, outfit styles, Undaunted Crests and Apex Hunter title.
With March of Sacrifices becoming free through the base game on October 19 and its Solo Dungeon arriving on October 21, players will soon have more ways to experience the dungeon without depending on a four-player group.
