Genshin Impact Sandrone: Facts and Speculations about “The Marionette”

In a new Genshin Impact teaser, HoYoverse has unexpectedly revealed one of the biggest mysteries in the action role-playing game. Not only a few, but all of the remaining Fatui Harbingers have gathered in one place for the first time in a long while, finally providing fans with an image of possible future boss enemies.

While all of them have features that will surely catch any fan’s eyes, one of them, a woman wearing a headband or a bonnet, notably has what looks like a huge robot or a puppet behind her. What’s also interesting is that this puppet appears to be carrying her. This Harbinger is Sandrone. But what do we know about this woman? Has she already made an appearance in the game? Or if not, at least mentioned in anyone’s voice lines?

In this article, we have gathered what we currently know about Sandrone, but most are speculations about her. This means that anything written about her in this article could change and should be taken with a grain of salt.

What we know and think about Sandrone so far

As one of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, Sandrone has an alias or codename, and hers is “The Marionette.” While she hasn’t made an appearance in-game yet, she was mentioned in the description of Childe: Sigil of Permission, the Character Tale of Tartaglia. In this Character Tale, it was mentioned that she once admonished Javert, a Fatui Agent in the Fatui’s Debt Collection division. However, Sandrone‘s rank as a Harbinger has not been officially revealed yet.

With her name and alias in mind, it can be speculated that her abilities have something to do with controlling puppets such as the huge humanoid behind her. However, it is also possible that she’s a puppet herself, a twist that has already appeared in a few anime series such as the case with Sasori in Naruto. It is also possible that she’s actually not Sandrone such as the case with Ganko Morikawa in Flame of Recca. It can be recalled that Ganko posed as a doll controlled by Reiran Katashiro, when in fact, it’s the other way around. If you want a more organic comparison, she could be like the Raiden Shogun, who is not actually Ei.

Long before the new teaser was released, speculations about Lyney and Lynette being affiliated with the Fatui circulated online. These two characters are the presumed siblings featured in the teaser for Fontaine in the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail. The theory says that Lynette could be “The Marionette” and that Lyney is the one controlling her. If you think about it, Sandrone‘s alias is “The Marionette” or “The Puppet,” not “The Puppeteer.” However, these are merely speculative, and Sandrone might actually be a “real person,” not a puppet. Moreover, the woman we saw in the new teaser doesn’t seem to look like Lynette, who has cat-like ears like Diona.

Recently, @Ubatcha1, one of the most reliable leakers in the Genshin Impact community shared a series of tweets that appear to be Tartaglia‘s new voice lines about the Harbingers. For Sandrone, here’s what Tartaglia presumably has to say:

“She always seems engrossed in her research. Hmm.. I wonder if those machines have anything to do with her? Anyway, I’ve only met her a few times, but every time she looked like she wanted to murder me. I have no idea what I possibly could have done to annoy her.”

This characteristic is in line with what another leaker, @SpendYourPrimos, said about Sandrone having a “yandere” personality. This means that she’s sweet and innocent at first glance but can switch to extremely violent or psychotic behavior.

With this, the leaker also commented:

“She seems normal until she gets mad. Her outbursts are unhinged—a 0 to 100 kind of girl…

If she dislikes you, she’ll turn you into a puppet. If she likes you, she’ll turn you into a very nice puppet.”
