Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix Build: Best W-Engines, Drive Discs and Teams

Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build priorities start with Anomaly Mastery, not conventional CRIT stats. Phoenix arrived in Version 3.3 as an S-Rank Fire Anomaly Agent whose Core Passive lets Anomaly damage critically hit. Her best equipment helps her reach that unusual critical-rate cap while triggering Burns and Ablooms more often.

Equip four Freedom Blues and two Phaethon’s Melody Drive Discs as a starting point. Plume of Rebirth is her signature W-Engine; Weeping Gemini is a cheaper fallback, though it makes the Mastery target harder to reach. The recommendations below are based on Phoenix’s released Version 3.3 abilities.

Plume of Rebirth supplies Anomaly Mastery, Anomaly Proficiency and a large Fire damage increase after an Anomaly critical hit. HoYoverse lists the signature weapon separately from Phoenix’s Into the Flames of Life character banner. Angel in the Shell is a strong substitute thanks to its Mastery and Proficiency stats, although some of its effects favour Ether characters.

Weeping Gemini gains Anomaly Proficiency stacks as teammates apply Attribute Anomalies. It performs respectably for a craftable W-Engine, but its lack of initial Anomaly Mastery makes the cap below harder to reach. Fusion Compiler and Electro-Lip Gloss are also options depending on what you own and their refinement levels. For a budget Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build, the best choice is often the useful weapon you can actually level.

Phoenix Drive Discs and the 255 Mastery target

SlotRecommendation
Four-piece setFreedom Blues; Chaos Jazz alternative
Two-piece setPhaethon’s Melody
Disc 4Anomaly Proficiency
Disc 5Fire DMG Bonus, PEN Ratio or ATK%
Disc 6Anomaly Mastery
SubstatsAnomaly Proficiency, ATK%, PEN, ATK

Four-piece Freedom Blues reduces enemy Fire Anomaly Buildup Resistance by 20% for eight seconds when Phoenix’s EX Special Attack damage hits. Fire damage from her Core Passive also counts as EX Special Attack damage, helping to keep the set active while Sear remains on the enemy. Chaos Jazz trades that consistent buildup bonus for personal damage but needs tighter timing. Two-piece Phaethon’s Melody supplies 8% Anomaly Mastery without sacrificing the Anomaly Proficiency main stat on Disc 4.

Aim for 255 initial Anomaly Mastery with Phoenix’s Core Skill fully upgraded. Against enemies affected by Sear, Nirvana gives Anomaly damage a 30% base CRIT Rate and adds 0.7 percentage points for every point of initial Mastery above 155. The cap is 100% at 255 Mastery. Phoenix’s upgraded base Mastery is 152: a W-Engine with +30% Mastery, a levelled Disc 6 with +30%, and Phaethon’s Melody’s +8% reach approximately 152 × 1.68 = 255.36. This counts stats present before battle, not temporary Mastery increases from weapon passives.

Once your Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build reaches that threshold, build Anomaly Proficiency and ATK%. Ordinary CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG rolls don’t produce the same payoff. With Weeping Gemini, accept that you may not reach 255 and concentrate on useful stats rather than forcing an impossible combination of gear.

Best teams for the Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build

A powerful Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build team is Phoenix, Velina and Remielle Dan. Velina’s Vortex interactions benefit from Phoenix’s Anomaly effect, and Remielle adds further Anomaly damage. Yuzuha is a strong support alternative if you lack Remielle. You can pair Phoenix with other Anomaly Agents, but her team bonus applies to Anomaly damage, not ordinary Disorder damage, so not every Disorder-focused composition makes equal use of it.

How to play Phoenix and which skills to level

Use Phoenix’s Combustion attacks and Perfect Blocks to build Pyre. Spend it on the enhanced Basic Attack Purifying Flame for a strong Abloom hit. Her EX Special sequence builds towards Ascension, while Soul-Searching Blaze after the Ultimate provides another Abloom opportunity. Maintain Sear before teammates land Anomaly damage; ordinary Disorder damage does not gain Phoenix’s special Anomaly CRIT benefit.

For this Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build, raise her Core Skill first, as it controls crucial passive and Abloom damage. Basic Attack and Ultimate or Chain Attack upgrades come next, followed by EX Special and Assist. Dodge is usually a lower priority. You gain more from understanding Pyre and her Anomaly timings than from upgrading every combat button equally.

Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build materials and farming

Combat skillsBasic, Advanced and Specialized Burn Chips; Hamster Cage Passes
Core SkillHigher Dimensional Data: Bloodstained Miasma Feather; Counterfeit Nucleus
LevelsInvestigator Logs and Dennies

The full Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build materials tally to reach Level 60 and max every combat skill includes four Basic Anomaly Seals, 32 Advanced Anomaly Seals, 30 Controller Seals, 25 Basic Burn Chips, 75 Advanced Burn Chips, 250 Specialized Burn Chips and five Hamster Cage Passes. Maxing the Core Skill takes 60 Bloodstained Miasma Feathers and nine Counterfeit Nuclei. These are full-investment figures, not the entry cost for a functional Phoenix.

Farm Bloodstained Miasma Feathers from Expert Challenge: Sacrifice – Covenant Guardian and Counterfeit Nuclei from Notorious Hunt: Kusarikku. Notorious Hunt’s limited free reward attempts are shared between bosses, so plan Phoenix’s Core upgrades first. Burn Chips come from the Agent Skill Combat Simulation, and Anomaly Certification Seals from the Agent Promotion simulation. This Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build remains playable with Weeping Gemini; prioritise the Core and Disc main stats before maxing every attack.

Is Phoenix’s signature W-Engine worth it?

Plume of Rebirth is the clearest upgrade for the Zenless Zone Zero Phoenix build, especially where it helps cross 255 initial Mastery. But it costs additional limited pulls. Check the Phoenix banner dates before spending. Phoenix’s paid outfits are cosmetic and have no bearing on damage.
