The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade is live now for qualifying existing owners on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. CD Projekt Red launched Remastered on September 29, 2026, so this is no longer a pre-release entitlement to wait for: eligible players can claim or install the upgraded version now.
The important rule for The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade is that ownership stays within the same platform ecosystem. GOG, Steam and Epic owners use their existing PC storefront ownership, PlayStation and Xbox owners stay inside those ecosystems, and original Nintendo Switch owners can claim the native Switch 2 version on Nintendo Switch 2.

| Ownership | Current upgrade position |
|---|---|
| GOG | Free Remastered upgrade for existing owners |
| Steam | Free Remastered upgrade for existing owners |
| Epic Games Store | Free Remastered upgrade for existing owners |
| PlayStation | Qualifying owners upgrade within the PlayStation ecosystem |
| Xbox | Qualifying owners upgrade within the Xbox ecosystem |
| Nintendo Switch to Switch 2 | Original Switch owners can claim the native Switch 2 Remastered version |
| Battle.net | New Remastered storefront, not an old Witcher 3 ownership upgrade path |
CD Projekt Red’s launch material also says physical and digital ownership can qualify within the same platform ecosystem. If your copy is physical, keep the disc or cartridge available because the platform may need it to validate ownership.
How to download The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade
- Sign into the account that owns your existing copy of The Witcher 3.
- Open the game’s library or storefront page on the same platform ecosystem.
- Look for the Remastered upgrade or updated Complete Edition entitlement rather than purchasing another copy.
- Start the Remastered download and leave enough storage for the upgraded build.
- Launch Remastered and verify that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are available.
On current platforms, Remastered replaces the old Complete Edition presentation. The result is a single upgraded package rather than a tiny graphics-only patch bolted onto the old structure.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade includes both expansions
Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are now included for existing base-game owners at no additional cost. That means a player who never bought either expansion should not purchase them separately after claiming Remastered.
Songs of the Past is different. The newly announced 2027 expansion is a separate future release and is not part of The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade.
What happens to existing saves
Existing save files remain compatible and cross-progression continues to work. Remastered does, however, reset your spent skill points because the progression system has been rebuilt around prerequisites and three-rank skills.
Your character is not being deleted. The reset is specifically there so returning players can rebuild Geralt under the new skill-tree rules instead of inheriting an invalid old layout.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade not showing
First confirm ownership is on the same ecosystem and account you are using to claim the upgrade. Owning the game on Steam does not create a free PlayStation copy, and owning it on Xbox does not create a Switch 2 entitlement.
For a physical copy, insert the validating disc or cartridge where required, restart the storefront or console and check the game page again. Avoid buying another copy before confirming that the ownership licence has actually been detected.
What the free upgrade changes
This is a substantial gameplay update, not just a resolution bump. Remastered adds the reworked skill tree, Reforge transmog, cross-platform mod support through mod.io, new accessibility options, improved Roach handling, expanded Photo Mode and a large set of visual and performance upgrades.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Free Upgrade is therefore the correct version to use for all of the new launch mechanics. Old guides can still be useful for quests and story choices, but settings and progression advice now need to account for the Remastered changes.
