The Unknown Dead by Daylight is a medium-difficulty Killer from the All Things Wicked Chapter. Its Power, UVX, combines bouncing projectiles with the Weakened status effect, while Hallucinations give The Unknown a second layer of map pressure by allowing it to teleport around the Trial.
The Unknown Dead by Daylight Power Explained
The main attack tool for The Unknown Dead by Daylight is UVX, short for Unknown Venom X. The Unknown fires a projectile that can bounce once before creating a Blast Area. Survivors caught by that Blast Area become Weakened.
A Weakened Survivor loses a Health State if another UVX Blast Area hits them. This creates a two-step ranged threat: first apply Weakened, then land another successful blast before the Survivor removes the effect.
How Survivors Remove Weakened
Survivors can remove Weakened by successfully looking directly at The Unknown for a brief period. That creates an unusual mind game because the Survivor needs visual contact with the Killer while also trying not to get hit.
For The Unknown player, breaking line of sight at the right moment can preserve Weakened and make the next UVX shot much more threatening.

Hallucinations Explained
Hallucinations are the map-control half of The Unknown Dead by Daylight. The Unknown periodically creates them during the Trial and can teleport to a highlighted Hallucination, leaving a temporary decoy behind.
Survivors can Dispel a Hallucination by standing still and staring at it. Weakened Survivors take longer to Dispel them, and an interrupted attempt can reveal the Survivor with Killer Instinct.
This means Hallucinations are not just teleport anchors. Their placement can force Survivors to choose between spending time removing your mobility network or leaving dangerous teleport points active.
The Unknown Perks
| Perk | What it does |
|---|---|
| Unbound | After a Survivor becomes injured, vaulting a Window can grant a brief movement-speed boost. |
| Unforeseen | Kicking a Generator transfers your Terror Radius to that Generator while you become Undetectable for a duration. |
| Undone | Missed Survivor Skill Checks build Tokens. Damaging a Generator consumes them to remove progress and temporarily block the Generator. |
How to Play The Unknown
Good The Unknown Dead by Daylight play starts with Hallucination placement. Do not think of every Hallucination as equally valuable. Teleport points close to Generators, strong loops and frequently travelled routes are much more useful than anchors left in dead areas of the map.
With UVX, aim around the Survivor rather than always aiming directly at the body. The projectile’s bounce and Blast Area allow shots that would be impossible for a normal ranged attack, especially around low obstacles and predictable loop corners.
Once a Survivor is Weakened, pressure them while denying prolonged line of sight. The longer the status remains active, the more threatening every UVX blast becomes.
Best Perk Style for The Unknown
Information perks pair well with Hallucinations because knowing where to teleport is often more important than simply having a teleport available. Generator slowdown also works well because The Unknown can repeatedly return to important areas instead of walking the entire map.
Stealth perks can be fun, but Unforeseen already gives the Killer a built-in way to misdirect Survivors with Terror Radius placement.
How to Counter The Unknown
The Unknown Dead by Daylight is strongest when Survivors allow Weakened and Hallucinations to stack into constant pressure. Clear important Hallucinations between chases and remove Weakened when it is safe so the Killer has to rebuild that threat instead of carrying it from one encounter to the next.
Against The Unknown Dead by Daylight, Survivors need to manage two separate problems. Remove Weakened by keeping visual contact when it is safe, and Dispel dangerous Hallucinations before they turn into permanent pressure points.
Avoid standing in obvious bounce lanes when The Unknown is lining up UVX. Corners and low structures can actually help the Killer because the projectile can bounce into a Blast Area that catches you after you think you have broken the shot.
Is The Unknown Good in Dead by Daylight?
Learning The Unknown Dead by Daylight is mostly about knowing when not to teleport. A nearby Hallucination is only valuable if it improves your position, protects a Generator or cuts off a Survivor. Teleporting simply because the option is available can throw away pressure.
The Unknown Dead by Daylight is a strong map-control Killer with a higher ceiling than its Medium difficulty label might suggest. UVX rewards projectile practice, while Hallucinations reward planning and map awareness. Players who enjoy controlling where Survivors can safely move will get much more from The Unknown than players who want a simple chase-only Killer.
The Unknown Dead by Daylight also works as a useful starting point for learning the broader Killer role because the Power has a clear strength, a clear counterplay pattern and obvious mistakes to correct after each Trial.
