Stardeus Ground Combat: Cover, Suppression and Crew Controls

Stardeus ground combat was rebuilt for Update 0.15 with cover, suppression, stuns, fleeing and friendly fire. You can draft crew directly, order attacks and adjust whether each colonist fights or avoids trouble.

During a boarding attack, draft your defenders, use cover and keep allies out of the firing line. Injured colonists can retreat to treatment, so watch their health while they’re under your control.

What Update 0.15 Changes

Update 0.15 rebuilds fights around cover, suppression, stuns, fleeing and friendly fire. Shots can keep travelling after a miss and hit somebody behind the intended target, including your own crew.

Enemies choose positions more carefully, and badly wounded beings can go down through pain or system shock. Raiders may retreat once their attacking force has been broken.

Stardeus Ground Combat: How to Draft Units

Draft a colonist or robot to take direct control during a fight. Drafted units follow your orders instead of ordinary colony tasks. Manage their combat reactions through Ship Computer > Apps > Combat Controls.

With a unit drafted, use the right mouse button to give movement or attack orders. Under Update 0.15, units automatically undraft when combat finishes, allowing them to resume ordinary jobs.

Stardeus Ground Combat: Attack Range

An individual drafted shooter only attacks targets within reach. To send them towards an out-of-range enemy first, hold Left Shift or Right Shift while issuing the order.

Hold Left Shift or Right Shift while issuing the order to make the unit move into range first. A drafted group moves closer together without that extra modifier, according to the official combat manual.

Stardeus Ground Combat: Combat Reactions

Each friendly being can be set to Free Will, Fight, Flee or Ignore. Free Will fights with a usable weapon when safe enough and flees otherwise.

Fight attacks reachable threats then returns to work, Flee moves away from danger, and Ignore concentrates on tasks unless provoked or given a direct order. Choose the behaviour that suits the person rather than drafting everyone for every minor threat.

Cover, Sandbags and Suppression

Sandbags are available from the start and provide cheap cover, although crossing them is slow. Position ranged defenders behind cover and keep open firing lines, especially along corridors where enemies are likely to approach.

Suppression makes exposed positions dangerous. Put ranged crew behind sandbags where they have clear shots, and keep the corridor in front of them free of friendly workers.

Stardeus Ground Combat: Friendly Fire and Weapons

Shots that miss an enemy may continue and hit the next being in their path. Keep colonists out of one another’s lines of fire and be careful when attacking boarders who are standing near civilian workers.

The update adds SMGs, Sniper Rifles, Nail Guns, Vibroblades, Machetes, Stun Batons, Riot Shields and the robot-focused Ion Disruptor. A mixed loadout offers options for different ranges and targets.

Stardeus Ground Combat: Armor and Injuries

Combat Armour, Assault Armour and Power Armour improve protection. The game now treats armour as more important, while physical pain and system shock can incapacitate people and robots without killing them outright.

Badly injured undrafted colonists may leave combat to seek treatment. A drafted worker remains under your control, so withdraw them manually when survival is more important than holding the firing position.

After a Boarding Attack

After the fight, confirm that the crew has returned to work and check for injuries, damaged doors and breached hull sections. Manually undraft anyone still under direct control before moving on.

Stardeus ground combat is only one part of defence. Mini Turrets, Trap Floors, door permissions and good ship layout reduce how far attackers can travel. Rebuild cover and restore life support before the next raid.
