Shrek 2 Remastered multiplayer lets up to four people play together on Xbox Series X|S. Aspyr confirms three choices: local couch co-op, online co-op and mixed sessions where some players share a console while others join from their own homes. You can also play alone.

You can put four people around one screen or play from separate homes. Mixed co-op also lets two people sharing a console join two friends playing remotely. The limit is still four players in total.

Shrek 2 Remastered multiplayer: all three co-op modes

The Xbox store lists local co-op for two to four, online co-op for two to four and a mixed mode combining the two. Four players is the total session limit, not the number you can add to an existing group of four on the same console.

Throughout the adventure, you switch between familiar Shrek heroes to make use of their different abilities. That matters for battles, bosses and puzzles, whether you’re taking your time solo or playing alongside other people.

Four people playing together on one Xbox

If everyone is in the same room, local co-op lets two to four people share one Xbox. Bring a controller for each player. The Xbox listing confirms shared/split-screen play, so you don’t need separate consoles or four copies of the game for a couch session.

A local session doesn’t require an online multiplayer subscription. The game also works solo, so you can play through the adventure even if nobody else is around.

Shrek 2 Remastered multiplayer: online co-op and subscriptions

Online co-op supports two to four people connecting from different homes. Each remote player needs access to the game and an eligible Xbox online multiplayer subscription, which is sold separately. Check that each household is ready before planning a session.

On PC, Steam also lists online co-op. Its store page says Epic Online Services powers online multiplayer and supports linking to a Steam account. That isn’t the same as a confirmed promise of crossplay between different consoles.

Shrek 2 Remastered multiplayer: mixed online and couch play

Mixed play combines the two options. Two people could share a living-room Xbox and invite two friends playing remotely. The game still caps the group at four, and the online participants will need the appropriate multiplayer access.

Xbox labels it Mixed Online Multiplayer & Couch Co-Op. If two people are on one Xbox, they can join a group with two remote players without turning the group into an eight-player session.

Does Shrek 2 Remastered support crossplay?

Aspyr has announced Xbox, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC versions, but cross-platform co-op has not been confirmed. Online support on those systems doesn’t automatically mean an Xbox player can join a friend on Switch.

Check the two specific platforms involved before buying separate editions for crossplay. The Switch and PlayStation versions have their own features and service requirements. You can read more about editions and pricing in our Shrek 2 Remastered release guide.

Which multiplayer setup should a family choose?

Choose couch co-op if everyone is together, online co-op if everyone plays from a separate home, or mixed co-op if some people share a console. The Xbox store supports all three arrangements.

Shrek 2 Remastered multiplayer also supports switching between heroes for combat and puzzles. The remaster releases on 10 November 2026; check subscription requirements on your chosen console before arranging an online session.
