Phantom Blade Zero preload opened on PC at 2 AM GMT on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, two days before launch. The game itself is approximately 145 GB, but S-GAME asks PC players to have at least 300 GB free on an SSD to preload it. You don’t need to download 300 GB of game data or keep that much storage occupied permanently.
On PS5, the PlayStation Game Size tracker has reported a 134.857 GB download with preloading beginning October 27. That figure comes from a PlayStation database report, not a file size confirmed by S-GAME. The PS5 estimate, PC game size and PC temporary preload space are three different numbers.
What time does the Phantom Blade Zero preload start?

S-GAME announced 7 PM PDT on October 26 for the PC preload. In the UK, that was 2 AM GMT on October 27, and it was 10 PM EDT on October 26 in the eastern US. The start time has already passed. If you bought the PC version, check your Steam Library and Downloads queue rather than waiting for another countdown. The release-time guide covers the global unlock times.
The PS5 preload was also reported for October 27. If you’re playing on console, check the game’s listing in your own Library rather than treating a PC Steam announcement as instructions for PS5. The reported 134.857 GB can change if Sony’s package or a release-day update changes.
How big is the Phantom Blade Zero preload on PC and PS5?
| Platform | Figure | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Approximately 145 GB | S-GAME’s stated game size |
| PC | At least 300 GB free | Space required for the preload process |
| PS5 | 134.857 GB | Reported download from PlayStation Game Size, not an official S-GAME figure |
S-GAME has not given a separate exact number for the PC network download. Downloaded files, the final installed game and the free space Steam needs to prepare them aren’t necessarily the same size. That’s why the 145 GB figure shouldn’t be used to calculate exactly how long the download will take.
Why does Phantom Blade Zero need 300 GB to preload?
The Phantom Blade Zero preload needs room to download and prepare files before launch. S-GAME hasn’t explained precisely how that temporary space is used, but it has told PC players to keep at least 300 GB free on their installation SSD. That is a preload requirement, not a statement that the finished game is 300 GB.

For example, an SSD with 180 GB free could hold a 145 GB game in theory, but it falls short of the preload requirement. Check the drive you selected in Steam, not just the total free space across all your drives. Moving another game off that SSD can create room. Installing onto an HDD doesn’t solve it, because S-GAME requires an SSD.
How to start the Phantom Blade Zero preload
To start the Phantom Blade Zero preload on Steam, open your Library, select the game and look for the Preload option. Make sure the chosen Steam library is on an SSD with 300 GB available, then use Downloads to check whether the job is running, paused or queued. If you don’t see the option, first check you’re signed into the account that purchased the game.
On PS5, find Phantom Blade Zero in your Game Library and check for an available download. Automatic downloads may handle a qualifying preorder if that setting is enabled. Epic Games Store uses its own download controls; a Steam preload notice alone doesn’t prove the same button is available to every Epic account.
Why won’t Phantom Blade Zero preload start?
If the Phantom Blade Zero preload won’t start, check four things before deleting files: the purchasing account, the selected SSD’s free space, Steam’s Downloads queue and any launcher update waiting to install. If your download is paused, resume it from the queue. If Steam reports insufficient disk space, the temporary 300 GB requirement is the first thing to check.
If the button is missing on PS5 or Epic, check that storefront’s own download availability. If the files are already downloaded but the Play button is locked, that may be completely normal before launch. These checks won’t fix every possible error. For an unexplained failure, note the exact message shown by the launcher rather than trying an unverified workaround.
Can you install Phantom Blade Zero on an HDD?
No. An HDD does not meet the official PC requirements. S-GAME lists an SSD for both minimum and recommended hardware. The Phantom Blade Zero PC requirements guide explains which processors and graphics cards you’ll also need. An SSD with enough room is still necessary even if the rest of your computer exceeds those specifications.
When can you play after the Phantom Blade Zero preload?
Phantom Blade Zero unlocks at 2 AM GMT on Thursday, October 29, 2026. That’s 7 PM PDT or 10 PM EDT on Wednesday, October 28 in the US. Steam displaying the earlier American date doesn’t mean anyone gets access before the worldwide release.
Finishing the Phantom Blade Zero preload early won’t let you play ahead of time. Steam may still have to process game files when the unlock happens, and any launch update could add another download. For NVIDIA players, S-GAME now specifically recommends driver 617.42 after observing instability on 621.01, rather than automatically installing the newest driver.
For Phantom Blade Zero preload, the key numbers are October 27 at 2 AM GMT to download, October 29 at 2 AM GMT to play, approximately 145 GB for the PC game and 300 GB free on an SSD while preloading. If you’re on PS5, use the size shown by your console rather than the PC working-space requirement.

Phantom Blade Zero preload and the 5 GB day-one patch
S-GAME confirmed an approximately 5 GB launch patch on October 28. If you already preloaded Phantom Blade Zero, let your launcher download and apply the patch before starting the game. If you’re downloading it for the first time after launch, the current game download already includes the update. The 5 GB update is separate from the approximately 145 GB installed PC game size and the 300 GB of temporary space required by the preload process.
The patch improves ray tracing and path tracing, and includes several bug fixes. S-GAME has not published a file-by-file list of those fixes. Our day-one patch guide covers what it changes. NVIDIA owners should also check the 621.01 driver warning rather than follow the older general advice to install the latest driver. If Steam still isn’t launching the game after the unlock, see our PC launch troubleshooting guide.
