Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash and Wallet Explained

Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash is the shared inventory you use to keep weapons, equipment and crafting ingredients between successful extractions. Open the Stash/Loadout station at the Forward Operating Base, or use the left-side FOB menu, to move items between your Stash and the Operator you’re preparing to deploy.

The October 25 patch changed what happens when your Overflow Stash still contains items: you cannot deploy until you reconcile them. If deployment is blocked, deal with the extra items first. Below are the starting capacity, the exact inventory differences and the steps to make room without losing something you intended to keep.

How to open and organise the Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash

  1. Return to the Forward Operating Base, then open Stash/Loadout from the station or FOB side menu.
  2. Check the Stash inventory for stored loot and the Loadout for the weapons and equipment your selected Operator will carry.
  3. Move wanted items out of the Operator’s inventory and into the Stash. Transfer weapons and gear from the Stash into the Loadout when preparing for the next mission.
  4. Sort the Stash by Type or Rarity, and merge compatible stacks to free slots.
  5. Review anything left over before selecting Deploy. If an Overflow Stash warning appears, resolve those items first.

The Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash belongs to your DMZ account and is shared across Active Duty Operators. Their equipped Loadouts and Backpacks are separate, so switching Operators doesn’t make the shared Stash disappear.

How many Stash slots do you start with?

Activision confirms that the Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash starts with capacity for 40 general items and 12 weapons. Weapons are counted separately. You can store weapons, gear, consumables, keys, valuables and 3D Printer ingredients. After successful extractions, sort items you plan to keep from those you can sell or use.

There is a separate distinction between your Stash and an equipped Backpack. Without an upgraded Backpack, your Basic Pack has eight slots. Secure Slots only become available with suitable Backpack upgrades and protect eligible items if extraction fails; ordinary Backpack contents can be lost on a failed exfil.

Overflow Stash: why you cannot deploy after October 25

Infinity Ward fixed a bug that previously let Operators attempt to deploy with items still in their Overflow Stash. Since the October 25 update, you must reconcile the Overflow Stash before the next deployment. This is an inventory requirement, not a general DMZ matchmaking outage.

  1. From the FOB, open Stash/Loadout and check the overflow items.
  2. Move anything you want to keep into free Stash slots, or adjust the equipped Operator’s Loadout where appropriate.
  3. If storage is full, merge eligible stacks, use crafting ingredients, sell unwanted valuables or discard only items you do not need.
  4. Check that the Overflow Stash is empty, then return to the Deploy menu and choose your mission or Free Roam.

The official notes don’t describe an automatic purge or a bypass for this restriction, so don’t assume repeatedly pressing Deploy will work. In the Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash, check the available item slots and weapon slots separately. If the issue remains after the overflow is cleared, check Activision’s live known-issues tracker.

Stash, Backpack, Loadout and Bank: what goes where?

Your Stash holds shared items safely in the FOB. Your Loadout is what the selected Operator actually carries into the next deployment. The Backpack holds extra equipment during a run. Money collected during a successful extraction goes into the Bank to pay for later purchases and upgrades.

The Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash also records four automatically salvaged Resource types: Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals and Metals. These totals appear at the bottom left of the Stash menu, don’t take ordinary Stash slots and are used at the 3D Printer. By contrast, separate 3D Printer ingredients taken from Hajin occupy Backpack and Stash space.

How to upgrade Stash and Bank capacity

The 3D Printer at the FOB includes permanent upgrades for Stash Item Capacity, Stash Weapon Capacity and Bank Capacity. Unlock the relevant progression and check the Upgrades category for each requirement. Different upgrades consume their listed resources and ingredients; don’t assume they all use the same materials or are unlocked at Level 1.

If you’re frequently hitting the Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash limit, check those two Stash upgrades separately. The DMZ crafting guide covers the 3D Printer system, while the FOB guide covers stations and unlocks.

What to do with items after a successful extraction

Once you get back from Hajin, offload valuable crafting ingredients that you don’t need equipped, keep weapons you’re likely to use and move surplus saleable valuables out of the way if space is tight. You can also unpack a Survival Kit at its dedicated FOB station to send its contents to your Stash. Unopened kits can remain in that station until you need them.

When a mission requires an ingredient, use the 3D Printer’s Track function to flag it before deploying. The Stash’s category icons help distinguish resources, valuables and ingredients. Valuable items are not necessarily junk: some also contribute to permanent FOB upgrades, so check your next recipe before selling them.

Does the Stash protect everything if you die?

No. Items left inside the FOB Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash remain in storage. Items you’ve equipped or carried into Hajin are at risk if you fail to extract, unless they qualify for a protected Secure Slot. Returning with your loot is what moves it back into persistent storage. See the MIA recovery guide and the extraction guide for what happens on a failed run.

Before deploying, check the chosen Operator’s actual Loadout rather than assuming everything in the shared Stash will accompany them. The Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Stash is storage; the Loadout is what you’re taking into danger.
