Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around is a Java Edition 26.4 Snapshot 5 Adventure advancement for killing a Frostbite with an Ice Ball. The key is the final hit: you can weaken the mob with a sword, but the Ice Ball you throw must deal the killing damage.
The quickest route is to defeat one Frostbite for its Ice Ball drops, find another and finish it with a carefully aimed projectile. Below are the safest approach, the locations to look and the fixes for attempts that do not count.
How to unlock Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around
The advancement sits in the Java Edition Adventure tab and asks you to kill a Frostbite using an Ice Ball. Damage dealt earlier with a sword or other weapon is fine. The final damage event must come from an Ice Ball that you throw and receive kill credit for. A ball hitting an already-dead mob, a Frostbite that dies to sunlight, or a strike from your sword does not meet that requirement. Open the Advancements menu after the kill and look for the new toast.
Getting your first Ice Balls
Frostbites are the blue, freezing variant of Zombies. They appear on the surface in cold biomes and underground inside the new Ice Caves. In Snapshot 5, they no longer spawn in ordinary caves simply because the surface biome is cold. Kill one normally and collect its drops. They can drop Ice Balls alongside Rotten Flesh, but not every kill guarantees one. Save the projectiles for a second Frostbite instead of throwing them away immediately.

Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around: reliable final-hit method
For Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around, separate the fight into two stages. First, weaken the Frostbite with ordinary attacks until it is close to death. Then stop swinging your weapon, select an Ice Ball from the hotbar and throw it directly at the mob. Ice Balls deal damage and knockback. Java’s initial notes list up to four damage points, declining with projectile speed. Bedrock Preview 26.70.21 lowered the base damage to two points. Stand relatively close for a more dependable finishing hit, but keep enough room to avoid the Frostbite’s melee Freezing attack.
How to avoid a stolen killing blow
The easiest place to try the Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around requirement is a reasonably flat, clear area where the Frostbite cannot walk into fire or fall into a ravine. Clear other hostile mobs and avoid using a companion or another player that might kill it first. Attack with a weak weapon so you can control its remaining health; if you hit too hard, bring another Frostbite rather than guessing whether the projectile will finish it. Carry multiple Ice Balls so you have a second attempt if the first is blocked or the mob survives.
Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around: why dispensers do not work
A dispenser firing Ice Balls is not a reliable shortcut for this Java advancement. A 20 October bug report about dispenser Ice Ball kills was resolved as working as intended because dispenser-fired projectiles do not have a player owner. The advancement needs a qualifying player-owned killing projectile. Hold the Ice Ball yourself and throw it from your hotbar instead of wiring a dispenser trap. For Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around, that ownership detail is just as important as the type of mob and projectile.
Finding Frostbites without entering Ice Caves
You do not have to search underground to complete Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around. In Snapshot 5 the Frostbite follows cold-biome surface spawn rules similar to the Stray. You can also turn a Zombie or Husk into a Frostbite by keeping it in Powder Snow long enough, as Mojang documents. That conversion is useful when a cold cave is difficult to find, but the final kill still needs a thrown Ice Ball. See our Frostbite guide for spawn conditions and transformations.

Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around: snapshot availability and fixes
The Minecraft What Goes Around Comes Around advancement was introduced in Java Edition 26.4 Snapshot 5 on 20 October 2026. It is not an advancement you can earn in the current stable Java version, nor does Bedrock use the same Java advancement system. In Minecraft Launcher, enable Snapshots under Installations and choose the correct build. If nothing appears, verify the game version, try a fresh player-thrown Ice Ball as the final hit and check the Adventure advancement tree. Back up worlds before loading them in development builds.
Other useful frostbite gear
If the Frostbite keeps freezing you at close range, Leather Armour can protect you from the freezing damage and slowdown, though the status effect may still appear. Ice Caves have dangerous Brittle Ice floors and falling Icicles, so luring an enemy to a safer surface makes the final hit easier. Keep extra Ice Balls for the new Freezing potion recipes. Snapshot 5 also added Packed Ice Bricks, while earlier test updates introduced Jukebox Playlists. Our Chaos Cubed guide covers the prior release, and Sulfur Cubes and their sliding interactions.
