Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm: Easy Mob Tower Build

Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm
Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm

Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm is a Bedrock-specific build for players who want a renewable source of experience from hostile mobs. This guide is written for Bedrock mechanics rather than assuming a Java Edition tutorial will behave the same way, and it puts the shopping list, build checks and common fixes in one place before you start placing hundreds of blocks.

Key Bedrock considerationAt simulation distance 4, natural hostile spawning is roughly 24–44 blocks from the player

A Bedrock mob tower must be designed around Bedrock spawning distance rather than copied from a Java sky farm. On simulation distance 4, hostile mobs need to be outside the 24-block no-spawn radius but still inside the much tighter outer spawning/despawn range. A dark multi-layer tower with water lanes and a drop chute is a reliable general design when the AFK position is planned correctly.

Gather the full list before building. Where a quantity is marked as approximate, bring extra: terrain, storage choices and the length of collection channels can change the final count.

How to build Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm

Step 1 – Choose the biome and AFK geometry

Avoid Mushroom Fields and think carefully about rivers/ocean areas if you specifically want creepers. Set or note the world simulation distance before choosing vertical spacing.

Checkpoint: On simulation distance 4, design around the 24–44 block natural spawning shell.

Step 2 – Build the collection point and drop tube

Place storage and hoppers at the kill point, then raise the central tube to the spawning-floor level. A roughly 19-block fall leaves many common mobs weak enough for manual XP kills; increase the fall if you want drops rather than XP.

Checkpoint: Decide now whether the farm is an XP farm or an automatic kill farm.

Step 3 – Build water lanes and spawning floor

Create dark spawning platforms feeding water lanes toward the central drop. Keep the water itself out of the spawnable floor area and use open trapdoors at edges to encourage pathing into channels.

Checkpoint: Water from every lane should stop or funnel correctly at the drop opening.

Step 4 – Prevent spider clogging if desired

Spiders need a wider floor footprint than most hostile mobs. Strategic slabs or other non-spawnable placements can break up continuous 2×2 areas if you prefer fewer spiders and smoother flow.

Checkpoint: There should be no unintended 2×2 spawn patch if you are suppressing spiders.

Step 5 – Stack additional layers

Repeat the tested floor above the first. Three layers are a sensible starter tower; more layers increase material cost and only help while enough of the structure remains inside the active spawn volume.

Checkpoint: Keep every floor completely dark once enclosed.

Step 6 – Roof and spawn-proof the exterior

Seal the tower, slab or light the roof and light the AFK/collection area. External spawns consume the same hostile mob capacity and can make a correct farm look broken.

Checkpoint: No hostile mobs should be able to spawn on the roof or beside your waiting position.

Step 7 – Test from the intended AFK position

Stand where the spawning floors are farther than 24 blocks but remain within the Bedrock outer range for your simulation distance. Give the mob cap time to clear before judging rates.

Checkpoint: If nothing spawns, test distance before changing the tower itself.

How Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm works

Bedrock mob farms are dominated by player distance, simulation distance, darkness, biome and the mob cap. A beautifully built tower can produce almost nothing if its AFK point was borrowed from a Java tutorial.

MechanicWhat matters in Bedrock
Minimum distanceNatural hostile mobs do not spawn within 24 blocks of the player.
Simulation distance 4The practical natural spawning shell is much tighter, roughly 24–44 blocks.
Higher simulation distancesThe outer range can extend much farther, but the farm still needs simulated chunks.
DarknessThe spawning floors need valid darkness for hostile mobs.
Mob capHostile mobs elsewhere in loaded caves or terrain reduce farm output.
BiomeBiome changes which hostile mobs can spawn and can affect a specialised farm’s rates.

Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm not working

If the farm is built but the output is poor or completely stops, work through these checks before tearing it down. Bedrock farms often fail because of spawning distance, village linking, collection direction or a nearby spawn area rather than because the visible structure is wrong.

Is Minecraft Bedrock XP Farm worth building?

Yes, especially before you have access to a specialised End or Nether XP farm. Keep the drop short enough that mobs survive with low health, then finish them manually to collect experience orbs.
