Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves do not transfer from the older PC version to the upgraded release introduced on October 29, 2026. Deep Silver confirms that the Windows Microsoft Store update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux is incompatible with the earlier save data and recommends starting a new game.
There’s a straightforward way to reach a later part of either campaign without replaying everything. The upgraded games unlock the entire Chapter Select menu. Pick the chapter nearest your old stopping point and begin with its standard equipment, rather than your previous checkpoint or collected weapons.
Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves: What happens after the update?

The October upgrade changes which Windows Store save data the games can read. Earlier saves do not carry across, even when you sign into the same Microsoft account. Deep Silver’s warning applies to this Windows PC storefront, rather than announcing a save reset for every version of Redux.
Both Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are affected. If you were halfway through a campaign before October 29, the updated Windows Store version won’t resume from that checkpoint. Start a new game for a complete run, or open Chapter Select to return to a later mission.
Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves and Chapter Select
Open the upgraded game and select Chapter Select from its main menu. Every campaign chapter is unlocked by default following the Microsoft Store upgrade. Choose the chapter closest to where you left off, then start it with the standard equipment supplied for that chapter.
Chapter Select takes you to the beginning of a chosen chapter. You’ll get its default loadout, not your previous selection of weapons, ammunition and filters. It’s an excellent shortcut if you want to finish the story, but it can’t place you at the precise checkpoint where you stopped.
The Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves workaround is a chapter restart, not an import. You can reach the same part of the story without playing the earlier chapters, but you’ll tackle it with the equipment supplied by that mission.
Can Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves restore old inventory?
There isn’t a save-conversion step hidden in Chapter Select. It can’t recreate the inventory or checkpoint from the older Windows Store build. Starting a new campaign is the better choice if you want to collect weapons and resources yourself as you progress.
A different loadout can matter in Metro, particularly when ammunition and gas-mask filters are scarce. Check your supplies when the chosen chapter loads rather than assuming you’ll have the same gear as your old save.
Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves and Xbox Play Anywhere
Xbox Play Anywhere covers qualifying digital ownership across Xbox consoles and Windows. It doesn’t change the old Windows Store game’s save format. Being entitled to install the new version is not the same as bringing a save across from the previous release.
Deep Silver also improved Xbox cloud syncing and Quick Resume stability. Those fixes make supported games more reliable when resuming progress. They don’t change the Windows Store migration restriction.
Does this affect Steam, GOG or Epic Games Store?
The Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves warning is written for the Microsoft Store edition only. Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store received their next-gen PC updates on October 22, a week earlier. The same announcement includes improvements to Steam Cloud uploads and autosave reliability, but does not extend the Windows Store migration restriction to those clients.
If you own the games on more than one PC storefront, keep each installation’s saved progress with that storefront. Xbox Play Anywhere doesn’t make Steam, Epic and GOG purchases or their save systems part of the same Microsoft licence.
Other save problems fixed by the October patch
Deep Silver fixed several issues involving corrupted or disappearing saves, checkpoint loading crashes, older Continue checkpoints and interruptions during autosave. It also fixed checkpoints created at moments when the player’s gas-mask filters were about to run out, which previously could leave a playthrough stuck in a repeated death sequence.
Those repairs help keep new progress safe, but they don’t convert Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves from the older build. The fully unlocked Chapter Select is the publisher’s way to help players return to later chapters.
How to continue after Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves stop working
To get back to your previous chapter quickly, select it from Chapter Select and use the default gear. For a continuous campaign with equipment you’ve collected yourself, choose New Game. Either way, your new progress starts in the updated Microsoft Store version.
The release affecting Metro Redux Microsoft Store Saves arrived on October 29, 2026 alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It includes modern graphics improvements and a new renderer feature set, but the save migration restriction is part of the upgrade that players should factor into their next session.
