Marathon Update 1.1.9.6 arrived on 27 October 2026, fixing two irritating problems: solo and duo Runners missing bonus reputation from certain contracts, and a UESC dropship spawning incorrectly on Night Marsh. Bungie also confirmed that Sponsored Perimeter returns on Thursday 29 October.
It’s a small patch with a clear purpose. The biggest difference for regular players is that the affected contracts should pay their intended reputation again, while Night Marsh no longer has the specific dropship spawn bug reported in the patch notes.
Marathon Update 1.1.9.6 patch notes at a glance

| Area | Confirmed patch change |
|---|---|
| Events | Sponsored Perimeter from October 29 |
| Contracts | Missing solo and duo bonus reputation fixed |
| Night Marsh | Improper UESC dropship spawn fixed |
Bungie’s official notes contain just three entries. Sponsored Perimeter is available from 29 October, certain solo and duo contract completions now award the intended bonus reputation, and an improperly spawning UESC dropship on Night Marsh has been fixed.
There’s no new map or separate weapon balance pass in these notes. The October Nightfall Refresh introduced the broader progression and combat changes earlier in the month; this patch is a follow-up, not another major content release.
Sponsored Perimeter returns on October 29
The Sponsored Perimeter weekend begins Thursday 29 October and follows the normal Thursday-to-Monday schedule, taking it through 2 November. Perimeter is one stop in the rotating sponsored queue, followed by Marsh and Night Marsh on subsequent weekends.
Sponsored queues provide equipment at the start, making them easier to enter without using your strongest saved loadout. The matches still have extraction risks, and regular Extraction remains available in the other zones. Our Marathon Sponsored Queues schedule shows the next weekends.
The solo and duo contract reputation fix
The contract fix addresses bonus reputation that wasn’t being awarded on certain completions when a Runner played alone or in a two-person crew. That’s separate from completing the contract itself; the issue was the missing reward on qualifying runs.
Bungie’s notes don’t name individual affected contracts or announce a payment for reputation missed before the patch. For new completions, the fix is included in 1.1.9.6. You can carry on using the ordinary contract system with your solo or duo loadout.
Night Marsh UESC dropship fix
A UESC dropship on Night Marsh could spawn improperly and down players. Bungie has fixed that unintended spawn. It was particularly frustrating because players could lose a run to something outside the normal combat encounter.
Night Marsh still has its usual UESC forces, rival Runners and extraction hazards. The update corrects the specific dropship behaviour, not every source of danger in the area.
How to get Marathon Update 1.1.9.6
Install the latest client update from your console or PC launcher before returning to Night Marsh or testing the contract fix. If Marathon was open during the download, close and relaunch it after the update has finished.
The Sponsored Perimeter playlist is available on its scheduled days, rather than being permanently enabled by the patch. If it isn’t on the menu, check the current weekend rotation before assuming the update failed.
Marathon Update 1.1.9.6 versus Vault Breaker
Vault Breaker is a separate Cryo Archive PvE event, available 20 October to 10 November under Bungie’s 1.1.9.5 schedule. That patch also reduced the weekly stock of six Tier 1 Armory rewards. None of those adjustments is a new feature of 1.1.9.6.
For Vault Data, the Armory and its current reward limits, use our Marathon Vault Breaker guide. The sponsored Perimeter playlist is for surface extraction; Vault Breaker has its own PvE activity and event economy.
What comes next after the October patch?
The next major update is Symbiosis, planned for 8 December. Bungie has announced permanent PvE, a refreshed Perimeter, the Bishop Runner shell, social space, firing range and experimental Team Deathmatch for that release.
Those additions are part of the December roadmap, not the October patch. Our Marathon Symbiosis December 8 guide covers the planned features, including what will change about PvE.
Marathon Update 1.1.9.6 questions answered
Does this patch add a map? No, it returns Perimeter to the sponsored rotation. Does it fix solo and duo contracts? It fixes missing bonus reputation on certain completions. Are dropships removed from Night Marsh? No, only the improper spawn was fixed.
Is there a compensation claim? Bungie hasn’t announced one with these notes. Do I need to unlock anything? The fixes are part of the game update; Sponsored Perimeter is selected from its scheduled playlist. Marathon Update 1.1.9.6 is a focused patch rather than a new quest or season.
