Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug: Fixed in Update 7.1.0

Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug fix in 7.1.0

Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug is fixed in Update 7.1.0. Arrowhead says the excessive vertical climb recoil was an unintended side effect of work done on the beam system for the meltagun, and today’s patch reduces the Trident’s vertical climb recoil from 12 to 2.

The important detail with Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug is that the weapon is not being returned to completely recoil-free behavior. Arrowhead says some recoil is intentional because it helps the Trident feel more impactful, but the much stronger vertical climb introduced by the earlier beam-system change was not intended.

That 12-to-2 change is the direct fix for Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug. Arrowhead documents it in the official Helldivers 2 7.1.0 patch notes under Primary Weapons.

The patch explanation is unusually useful because it also tells us why the bug happened. Functionality developed for the meltagun was added to the beam system, which unintentionally made the Trident more affected by vertical climb recoil.

Why did the LAS-13 Trident suddenly have more recoil?

The cause of Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug was not a deliberate balance nerf. Arrowhead says the change happened while coding meltagun functionality into the beam system. That system-level work affected the Trident more than intended.

This is why the problem appeared on the known-issues list before the fix. Players were not imagining a different feel, and the increased vertical climb was not a hidden weapon rebalance.

Does the Trident still have recoil after the fix?

Yes. Fixing Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug does not set vertical climb recoil to zero. The value is now 2, and Arrowhead explicitly says the intention is for the weapon to retain some recoil so firing still feels impactful.

That means clips or comparisons from before 7.1.0 can exaggerate how much the current Trident moves. If you are testing the weapon now, make sure the game has updated before comparing recoil patterns.

Do you need to change attachments or settings?

No special setting is required to fix Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug. This is a game-data change delivered through Update 7.1.0. Once the current patch is installed, the vertical climb value should use the corrected setting.

If the weapon still behaves as though it has the old recoil after updating, restart the game and confirm your platform finished installing the patch. A local reinstall should not normally be necessary for a balance value delivered through the game update.

Is the Trident recoil bug still on the known-issues page?

The September 20 known-issues page still lists increased Trident recoil because that page predates the 7.1.0 release. The newer patch notes explicitly fix Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug, so the patch takes precedence for the current live status.

This is exactly why our Helldivers 2 7.1.0 Known Issues guide separates old known-issue entries from fixes that landed today.

What else changed for weapons in 7.1.0?

The Trident fix is not the only weapon change around Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug. Arrowhead also buffs the AR/GL-21 One-Two by increasing its underbarrel grenade starting amount from 2 to 3, maximum spare amount from 3 to 5 and refills from 3 to 5.

By contrast, the AR-59 Suppressor Short Magazine bug is not listed as fixed in 7.1.0. That issue is still documented separately by Arrowhead and remains a different weapon problem.

Current LAS-13 Trident recoil status

The current status of Helldivers 2 LAS-13 Trident Recoil Bug is fixed. Update 7.1.0 reduces the unintended vertical climb recoil from 12 to 2 and explains the earlier increase as a side effect of beam-system work rather than an intended nerf.
