Can Heatran Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes, shiny Heatran is available in Pokémon GO.

Regular Heatran has a brown and reddish body with orange markings and metallic grey sections. Shiny Heatran changes the brown areas to a brighter reddish-purple shade, while its eyes also become more vivid.

A shiny encounter is not guaranteed after defeating a Heatran Pokémon GO raid. Trainers may need to complete several raids before shiny Heatran appears.

Heatran will not look shiny during the raid battle itself. The shiny check takes place after Heatran has been defeated and the catch encounter begins.

Shadow Heatran can also be shiny when the shiny Shadow version is available from Shadow Raids or another qualifying encounter.

Heatran Pokémon GO Weaknesses

The Heatran Pokémon GO weaknesses are:

  • Ground-type attacks
  • Fighting-type attacks
  • Water-type attacks
GROUND4×WATER2×FIGHTING2×

Heatran is double weak to Ground-type attacks because both Fire and Steel are weak to Ground. Ground counters should therefore be prioritised over Fighting and Water Pokémon whenever possible.

Heatran resists a large number of attack types, including:

  • Bug
  • Dragon
  • Fairy
  • Flying
  • Grass
  • Ice
  • Normal
  • Poison
  • Psychic
  • Steel

Several of these resistances are doubled because both of Heatran’s types resist the same damage.

Sunny or Clear weather boosts Ground-type attacks, making a Heatran Pokémon GO raid considerably easier. Sunny and Snowy weather can also boost Heatran’s catch CP after the raid.

Best Heatran Pokémon GO Raid Counters

The best Heatran Pokémon GO counters are powerful Ground-type attackers using Ground-type Fast and Charged Attacks.

PokémonRecommended moves
Primal GroudonMud Shot and Precipice Blades
Mega GarchompMud Shot and Earth Power
Shadow GroudonMud Shot and Precipice Blades
Shadow GarchompMud Shot and Earth Power
GroudonMud Shot and Precipice Blades
Therian Forme LandorusMud Shot and Sandsear Storm
GarchompMud Shot and Earth Power
ExcadrillMud-Slap and Scorching Sands
RhyperiorMud-Slap and Earthquake
MamoswineMud-Slap and High Horsepower

Primal Groudon is the strongest Heatran Pokémon GO counter available. Mega Garchomp, Shadow Groudon and Therian Forme Landorus are also exceptional choices.

Some recommended attacks, including Precipice Blades, Earth Power and Sandsear Storm, may require an Elite Charged TM when they are unavailable through normal TMs.

Trainers without top-tier Legendary or Shadow counters can use Excadrill, Rhyperior, Mamoswine, Krookodile or ordinary Garchomp.

Ground-type moves should always be prioritised because Heatran takes double super-effective damage from them.

How Many Trainers Are Needed to Beat Heatran?

Heatran can be defeated by two experienced Trainers using strong Ground-type teams. Its double Ground weakness makes the raid much easier than battles against many other Legendary Pokémon.

Most Trainers should aim for a group of three or four players to complete a Heatran Pokémon GO raid comfortably.

Group sizeRecommendation
One TrainerNot normally possible
Two TrainersAchievable with strong Ground counters
Three TrainersComfortable for experienced players
Four or moreRecommended for most groups

A larger group may be needed when counters are underlevelled, friendship bonuses are unavailable or players are not using Ground-type attacks.

Party Power, Primal Groudon boosts, Sunny weather and high friendship levels can reduce the time needed to win.

Heatran Pokémon GO Perfect IV CP

The perfect IV Heatran Pokémon GO catch values are:

Encounter conditionsPerfect IV CP
Level 20 without weather boost2,145 CP
Level 25 with Sunny or Snowy weather2,681 CP

The standard non-weather-boosted Heatran catch range is approximately 2,058 CP to 2,145 CP.

A Heatran caught at 2,145 CP after a standard raid will have perfect 15/15/15 IVs. A weather-boosted Heatran caught at 2,681 CP will also have perfect IVs.

Use Golden Razz Berries and aim for Excellent Curveball Throws. Heatran moves from side to side during the encounter, so waiting for it to return to the centre can make accurate throws easier.

Best Heatran Pokémon GO Moveset

The best Heatran Pokémon GO moveset for raids and Gym battles is:

  • Fast Attack: Fire Spin
  • Charged Attack: Magma Storm

Magma Storm is Heatran’s signature move and provides its strongest Fire-type raid performance. It may require an Elite Charged TM when it is not available through a regular Charged TM.

Heatran can use the following attacks:

Fast Attacks

  • Fire Spin
  • Bug Bite

Charged Attacks

  • Magma Storm
  • Flamethrower
  • Fire Blast
  • Iron Head
  • Stone Edge
  • Earth Power

Fire Spin and Magma Storm give Heatran a complete Fire-type moveset with the same-type attack bonus.

Flamethrower is the best alternative when Magma Storm is unavailable. Iron Head gives Heatran Steel-type damage, while Stone Edge and Earth Power provide additional coverage.

Is Heatran Good in Pokémon GO Raids?

Heatran is a strong Fire-type raid attacker, particularly when it knows Magma Storm.

The Heatran Pokémon GO combination of respectable Attack, excellent resistances and strong Fire-type damage allows it to perform well against raid bosses weak to Fire.

Heatran can be useful against:

  • Genesect
  • Kartana
  • Regice
  • Registeel
  • Cobalion
  • Mega Scizor
  • Mega Abomasnow
  • Grass, Bug, Ice and Steel-type raid bosses

Heatran may not always deal as much raw damage as the strongest Shadow or Mega Fire attackers, but its durability allows it to remain in battle longer.

Shadow Heatran is even stronger as a Fire attacker because the Shadow bonus increases its damage output, although it also takes more damage.

Is Heatran Good in PvP?

Heatran has a niche role in the Master League.

Its Steel typing gives it valuable resistances against Fairy, Dragon, Flying and Steel attacks. This allows Heatran to pressure opponents such as Zacian, Togekiss and some Steel-type Pokémon.

The recommended Heatran Pokémon GO PvP moveset is generally:

  • Fast Attack: Fire Spin
  • Charged Attack: Magma Storm
  • Second Charged Attack: Stone Edge or Earth Power

Magma Storm provides relatively efficient Fire-type pressure. Stone Edge can threaten Flying Pokémon, while Earth Power provides coverage against opposing Fire, Rock and Steel types.

Heatran’s major problem is its double Ground weakness. Groudon, Landorus, Garchomp and other Ground-type Pokémon can defeat Heatran very quickly.

Heatran is useful in the correct matchup, but it is not a completely safe Master League investment.

What Is Heatran?

Heatran is a Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It lives in volcanic caves and uses its cross-shaped claws to climb along walls and ceilings.

Its body is made from rugged steel, although parts of it have melted because of its own intense internal heat.

It dwells in volcanic caves. It digs in with its cross-shaped feet to crawl on ceilings and walls.

Is Heatran Pokémon GO Worth Raiding?

Heatran Pokémon GO raids are worth completing for the Pokédex entry, shiny chance, Heatran Candy and the opportunity to obtain a strong Fire-type attacker.

A Heatran with Fire Spin and Magma Storm can provide genuine raid value, particularly against Bug, Grass, Ice and Steel-type bosses. Trainers without several established Fire attackers should consider powering up a strong Heatran.

Heatran also has some Master League potential, although its double Ground weakness prevents it from becoming a universal PvP choice.

Collectors may want to continue raiding for shiny Heatran, perfect IVs or additional Candy for both regular and Shadow Heatran.
