Necrozma Pokémon GO
Necrozma Pokémon GO

Necrozma Pokémon GO encounters give Trainers the chance to catch one of the most important Legendary Pokémon for building Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma. The standard form is a pure Psychic-type Pokémon, but it can be fused with Solgaleo or Lunala to unlock significantly stronger forms.

This Necrozma Pokémon GO guide covers shiny Necrozma, its raid weaknesses, strongest counters, perfect IV catch CP, best moveset and how Necrozma Fusion works.

PSYCHIC

Standard Necrozma is a pure Psychic-type Pokémon. Its typing gives Trainers three straightforward weaknesses to exploit when preparing a Necrozma Pokémon GO raid team.

Damage taken when Necrozma is hit by each type:

Weak to

BUG2×GHOST2×DARK2×

Resists

FIGHTING½×PSYCHIC½×

Based on Psychic typing. Abilities may modify these matchups.

Can Necrozma Be Shiny in Pokémon GO?

Yes, shiny Necrozma is available in Pokémon GO.

Regular Necrozma has a mostly black crystalline body with sections that reflect different colours. Shiny Necrozma changes much of its body to a dark blue shade, making the shiny version reasonably easy to identify during the catch encounter.

A shiny encounter is not guaranteed after winning a Necrozma Pokémon GO raid. Trainers may need to complete multiple raids before shiny Necrozma appears.

Necrozma does not appear shiny during the raid battle itself. The shiny check takes place once the boss has been defeated and the catch encounter begins.

A shiny Necrozma can also be used to create shiny Dusk Mane Necrozma or shiny Dawn Wings Necrozma. The appearance of the fused form is determined by the Necrozma used for the fusion rather than the Solgaleo or Lunala.

Necrozma Pokémon GO Weaknesses

The Necrozma Pokémon GO weaknesses are:

  • Bug-type attacks
  • Dark-type attacks
  • Ghost-type attacks
BUG2×GHOST2×DARK2×

As a pure Psychic type, Necrozma resists Fighting and Psychic-type attacks.

Dark Pokémon are particularly useful because they deal super-effective damage while resisting Psychic-type attacks. However, some Necrozma Charged Attacks may provide coverage against individual Dark-type counters.

Foggy weather boosts Dark and Ghost-type attacks, while Rainy weather boosts Bug-type attacks. Windy weather boosts Necrozma and increases its catch CP following a successful raid.

Best Necrozma Pokémon GO Raid Counters

The best Necrozma Pokémon GO counters are powerful Dark and Ghost-type attackers. Bug Pokémon can also deal super-effective damage, although the strongest Dark and Ghost options will generally perform better.

Shadow ChandelureHex and Shadow Ball
HydreigonBite and Brutal Swing
DarkraiSnarl and Shadow Ball
Giratina Origin FormeShadow Claw and Shadow Force

Dawn Wings Necrozma is one of the strongest choices for a Necrozma Pokémon GO raid because Moongeist Beam deals enormous Ghost-type damage.

Mega Tyranitar is another excellent option. Its Dark typing allows it to resist Psychic attacks while dealing super-effective damage with Bite and Brutal Swing.

Mega Gengar can deal extremely high damage but may faint quickly, particularly when Necrozma has Psychic-type attacks. Trainers using Ghost Pokémon should therefore be prepared to revive or rejoin with a second team.

Some of the recommended attacks may require an Elite TM when they are unavailable through regular TMs.

How Many Trainers Are Needed to Beat Necrozma?

Two experienced Trainers using powerful, high-level Dark or Ghost counters may be able to defeat Necrozma under favourable conditions.

Most players should aim for at least three or four Trainers to make a Necrozma Pokémon GO raid comfortable.

Group sizeRecommendation
One TrainerNot normally possible
Two TrainersPossible with excellent counters
Three TrainersAchievable with strong teams
Four or moreRecommended for most groups

A larger group may be needed when counters are underlevelled, friendship bonuses are unavailable or players are using the automatically recommended party.

Party Power, Mega Evolution bonuses, weather boosts and high friendship levels can significantly reduce the time needed to defeat Necrozma.

Necrozma Pokémon GO Perfect IV CP

The perfect IV Necrozma Pokémon GO catch values are:

Encounter conditionsPerfect IV CP
Level 20 without weather boost2,104 CP
Level 25 with Windy weather2,630 CP

The standard non-weather-boosted catch range is approximately 2,018 CP to 2,104 CP.

During Windy weather, Necrozma can be encountered between approximately 2,522 CP and 2,630 CP.

A Necrozma caught at 2,104 CP or 2,630 CP under the corresponding conditions will have perfect 15/15/15 IVs.

IVs are especially important if you intend to fuse Necrozma. The fused Pokémon uses Necrozma’s IVs, level and shiny status, so your strongest Necrozma should generally be selected for the fusion.

Best Necrozma Pokémon GO Moveset

The best standard Necrozma Pokémon GO moveset for raids and Gym battles is:

  • Fast Attack: Psycho Cut
  • Charged Attack: Future Sight

This provides Necrozma with a complete Psychic-type moveset and the same-type attack bonus.

Necrozma may have access to the following attacks:

Fast Attacks

  • Psycho Cut
  • Shadow Claw
  • Metal Claw

Charged Attacks

  • Future Sight
  • Dark Pulse
  • Outrage
  • Iron Head

Psycho Cut generates energy quickly and allows Necrozma to use Future Sight more frequently. Shadow Claw can provide Ghost-type damage, while Dark Pulse, Outrage and Iron Head offer additional coverage.

The standard Necrozma Pokémon GO form is usable as a Psychic attacker, but its fused forms are much more valuable. Trainers should think carefully before spending large amounts of Candy on the standard form if they plan to create Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma.

How Does Necrozma Fusion Work?

Necrozma can fuse with either Solgaleo or Lunala.

FusionPokémon requiredEnergy required
Dusk Mane NecrozmaNecrozma and SolgaleoSolar Fusion Energy
Dawn Wings NecrozmaNecrozma and LunalaLunar Fusion Energy

Creating either fusion also requires Necrozma Candy and Cosmog Candy.

The Necrozma selected for the fusion determines:

  • The fused Pokémon’s IVs
  • The fused Pokémon’s level
  • Whether the fused Pokémon is shiny
  • The fused Pokémon’s background

The Solgaleo or Lunala used does not determine the fused Pokémon’s IVs or shiny status.

Dusk Mane Necrozma learns Sunsteel Strike, while Dawn Wings Necrozma learns Moongeist Beam. These signature attacks are a major reason both fused forms are so powerful.

Is Necrozma Good in Pokémon GO Raids?

Standard Necrozma is a usable Psychic-type raid attacker, but it is not the primary reason Trainers should raid it.

Other Psychic attackers can compete with or outperform standard Necrozma. Its true value comes from its ability to become Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma.

Dusk Mane Necrozma is an exceptional Steel-type raid attacker with Metal Claw and Sunsteel Strike.

Dawn Wings Necrozma is an exceptional Ghost-type raid attacker with Shadow Claw and Moongeist Beam.

This gives Necrozma Pokémon GO catches enormous long-term value, even when the standard form itself is not urgently needed for a raid team.

Is Necrozma Good in PvP?

Standard Necrozma has limited value in the GO Battle League compared with its fused forms.

Its Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to common Dark, Ghost and Bug-type attacks. Although Psycho Cut provides useful energy generation, standard Necrozma does not have the defensive typing or signature attacks available to its fusions.

Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma are much more significant in the Master League. Both have powerful signature attacks and high maximum CP totals, although each fusion has different weaknesses and ideal matchups.

Trainers building Necrozma for PvP should therefore focus on finding strong IVs before deciding which fusion best suits their team.

What Is Necrozma?

Necrozma is a Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VII. It absorbs light and stores the energy inside its black crystalline body.

Necrozma is closely connected to Solgaleo and Lunala. By absorbing either Pokémon, it can become Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma.

It survives by absorbing light. After a long time spent slumbering underground, impurities accumulated within it, causing its body to darken.

Is Necrozma Pokémon GO Worth Raiding?

Necrozma Pokémon GO raids are absolutely worth completing when you need a strong fusion candidate, shiny Necrozma, additional Candy or Fusion Energy.

The standard form is not the best Psychic attacker in the game, but Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma are both extremely powerful. Trainers should keep their best Necrozma catches rather than transferring them based solely on the standard form’s performance.

A perfect-IV or shiny Necrozma can become an especially valuable fused Pokémon. This makes Necrozma one of the most worthwhile Legendary raid targets whenever it returns.
