The Hearthstone Old God Card Back is the reward for Old Gods Collector: Part 2 in Reign of the Black Empire. It needs the Signature versions of all four Old Gods: C’Thun, Eye of the Empire; N’Zoth, Dream’s End; Mastermind Yogg-Saron; and Y’Shaarj, Titan Bane.
There are two similarly named Collector feats, which is where the confusion comes from. Part 1 accepts Normal, Golden or Signature copies and gives a Golden expansion pack. Part 2 is the harder collection challenge and unlocks the animated card back.
How to unlock the Hearthstone Old God Card Back
For the Hearthstone Old God Card Back, all four Old Gods have to be Signature. Once C’Thun, N’Zoth, Yogg-Saron and Y’Shaarj are all in your collection in Signature form, you have met the Part 2 requirement.
| Old God | Version required for Part 2 |
|---|---|
| C’Thun, Eye of the Empire | Signature |
| N’Zoth, Dream’s End | Signature |
| Mastermind Yogg-Saron | Signature |
| Y’Shaarj, Titan Bane | Signature |
A Normal or Golden Old God helps with Part 1, but not Part 2. If you own regular C’Thun and Golden N’Zoth, for example, both count toward the Golden pack feat but neither fills a Signature slot for the card back.
Old Gods Collector Part 1 and Part 2 rewards
Part 1 is much easier to finish. You only need one version of each of the four Old Gods, and Normal, Golden and Signature copies all qualify. The reward is one Golden Reign of the Black Empire pack.
Part 2 keeps the same four names but changes the quality requirement: every one of them must be Signature. That is the Feat that unlocks the Hearthstone Old God Card Back.
| Feat | Requirement | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Old Gods Collector: Part 1 | Collect all 4 Old Gods in Normal, Golden or Signature form | 1 Golden Reign of the Black Empire Pack |
| Old Gods Collector: Part 2 | Collect all 4 Signature Old Gods | Old God Card Back |
How to get all four Signature Old Gods
The four Signature cards come from different acquisition routes. Yogg-Saron is tied to the Golden bundle chain offer, while C’Thun, Y’Shaarj and N’Zoth appear through separate Darkmoon Faire Treasures rotations.
| Signature Old God | Confirmed acquisition route | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Mastermind Yogg-Saron | Claimed after acquiring all three Golden Reign of the Black Empire bundles in the chain offer | October 20 – December 1 |
| C’Thun, Eye of the Empire | Eye of the Empire Darkmoon Faire Treasures | October 20 – December 1 |
| Y’Shaarj, Titan Bane | Y’Shaarj Darkmoon Faire Treasures | October 23 – December 1 |
| N’Zoth, Dream’s End | N’Zoth Darkmoon Faire Treasures | November 3 – December 1 |
November 3 is the first date all four announced routes have opened, because that is when N’Zoth, Dream’s End joins Darkmoon Faire Treasures. So the Hearthstone Old God Card Back cannot be finished through the announced routes on the October 20 expansion launch day.
Do Normal or Golden Old Gods count?
Yes for Part 1, no for Part 2. A Normal, Golden or Signature copy of each Old God is enough for the Golden pack. The Hearthstone Old God Card Back requires all four Signature versions specifically.
One copy of each different Old God is enough for the feat. You are collecting the four names in the required quality, not building a full playset of each card.
Old Gods Collector Renown bug explained
There is also a known display bug on Old Gods Collector. Blizzard says the Feat can show collection points, or Renown, even though it is meant to be cosmetic-only.
You are not losing collection completion by skipping it. Blizzard has already flagged the incorrect Renown display and says it will be corrected in a future patch.
Is the Hearthstone Old God Card Back free?
The Hearthstone Old God Card Back has no separate Shop price, but the full Signature collection is not a free-only path. Mastermind Yogg-Saron specifically requires you to acquire all three Golden Reign of the Black Empire bundles in the chain offer.
The other three Signature Old Gods come from their listed Darkmoon Faire Treasures rotations. So the card back itself is a Feat reward, but getting the four cards needed for that Feat can involve paid acquisition routes.
