The Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl returns from November 10 to 18, 2026. You build a Wild deck, confront the Dark Wanderer and eventually face Diablo. Beat the encounter to receive one regular Reign of the Black Empire pack.
There’s a twist to this fight: Blizzard says your progress carries over between attempts. You can return to the challenge after a defeat instead of treating every run as a completely fresh encounter. Here’s how to enter, which deck format to choose and what the pack reward does, and doesn’t, include.
Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl dates and reward
The Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl is available November 10 through November 18, a shorter window than the main Diablo anniversary event. Blizzard hasn’t specified an exact closing hour for each region, so plan to complete it before the final date.
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Deck | Build a Wild-format deck |
| Encounter | Battle the Dark Wanderer and reveal Diablo |
| Retries | Encounter progress carries over |
| Reward | 1 regular Reign of the Black Empire pack after a successful completion |
| Dates | November 10–18, 2026 |
The reward is a regular expansion pack. The Dark Wanderer Warlock hero skin is earned through the separate 30 Years of Terror Event XP track, which is available until December 1. Winning the Brawl doesn’t grant the skin.

How to enter the Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl
From November 10, open the Tavern Brawl mode and choose Dark Wanderer. You can also look for a related Bookmark in Hearthstone’s Journal, which supports a Go To option for events and Tavern Brawls. The encounter requires a Wild deck.
- Log in during the November 10–18 event dates.
- Open Tavern Brawl or its event bookmark in the Journal.
- Select or build a Wild-legal deck for the encounter.
- Fight the Dark Wanderer and work towards the confrontation with Diablo.
- Keep progressing through attempts, then complete the Brawl successfully for the pack.
Blizzard hasn’t published a 2026-specific deck list or exact encounter restrictions beyond the Wild requirement. Read the Brawl’s live deck-building screen before committing to a build, particularly if you’re returning after a long break.
Why does the Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl need Wild cards?
Wild allows cards from a larger pool of Hearthstone sets than Standard. That doesn’t mean every card in your deck must come from an older expansion: current cards are allowed too, provided they’re legal in Wild. The Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl specifically uses a Wild deck.
This is a special challenge against the Dark Wanderer, not a Ranked Wild match against another player. A deck that works on the Wild ladder isn’t automatically the best choice for this encounter, and Blizzard hasn’t released a guaranteed winning deck for the 2026 run.
How the carryover mechanic works
The Dark Wanderer grows more dangerous as you strike him, and eventually reveals his true form as Diablo. Blizzard confirms that encounter progress carries over between attempts, so there’s a reason to continue even when you can’t win on your first try.
The patch notes don’t say exactly which boss states are saved, so check what the Brawl shows after each attempt. Avoid assuming that every health total or secret remains unchanged just because overall progress persists.
The most useful preparation is understanding the Wild deck requirement and how progress carries over. Exact boss abilities, phase health and reliable counters need to be checked when this version of the encounter goes live on November 10.
Does this Brawl unlock the Dark Wanderer hero skin?
No. Finishing the Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl awards one regular Reign of the Black Empire pack. To earn the Dark Wanderer Warlock hero skin, complete Event Quests and collect Event XP in the main 30 Years of Terror event.
The paid Diablo bundle is separate again. From November 10 to December 8, it offers the Diamond Diablo, Lord of Terror Warrior skin, three Warrior packs, five Golden Standard packs and two Signature Epic Treasure Fiend cards. None is part of the Brawl completion reward.
What can you do before November 10?
Before November 10, check your collection and make sure you can build a Wild deck. You don’t need to spend Dust on a speculative counter deck: Blizzard’s patch notes haven’t confirmed the boss’s full ability set for this return.
There is a more urgent pack offer first. The November Legendary Quest Chain ends on November 3 and requires Ranked Standard games. Finish that separately; it won’t count as a Dark Wanderer attempt.
When the Hearthstone Dark Wanderer Tavern Brawl opens, enter with a Wild deck, work through the encounter over however many attempts you need, and claim the pack before November 18. Keep following the separate Diablo Event Quests for the Warlock skin until December 1.
