The Hearthstone October 23 Legendary Quest Chain runs from October 23 to November 3, 2026 and sends you into Ranked Standard for two Reign of the Black Empire pack rewards.
Part 1 gives a normal expansion pack, while Part 2 gives a Golden Reign of the Black Empire pack. It is a short launch-window chain, so there is only a little under two weeks to finish both steps.
Hearthstone October 23 Legendary Quest Chain rewards
The Hearthstone October 23 Legendary Quest Chain has two sequential parts. Finish Part 1 for a normal Reign of the Black Empire pack, then complete Part 2 for the Golden pack.
| Quest step | Reward |
|---|---|
| Part 1 | 1x Reign of the Black Empire Pack |
| Part 2 | 1x Golden Reign of the Black Empire Pack |
There are no cosmetics or Tavern Tickets listed for this chain. Both rewards are packs, with the Golden pack waiting at the end.
How to complete the October 23 Legendary Quest Chain
The Hearthstone October 23 Legendary Quest Chain is tied to Ranked Standard games. Blizzard has confirmed the mode, but the exact live quest wording and number of games will not be visible until October 23.
You cannot jump straight to the Golden pack. Part 2 follows Part 1, so clear the first quest and collect its normal pack before moving onto the second reward.
Do you need to win Ranked Standard games?
Blizzard currently says to play Ranked Standard games and has not announced a wins-only requirement. The exact task will be clear once the live quest text appears on October 23.
Until then, there is no reason to assume you need a particular rank, class or win streak. Ranked Standard is the only requirement Blizzard has named so far.
How long do you have to finish it?
The Hearthstone October 23 Legendary Quest Chain closes on November 3. Both parts need to be cleared during that window if you want the normal and Golden pack rewards.
This is separate from the Reign of the Black Empire in-game event running from October 20 to November 10. The dates overlap, but its Event XP and rewards are a different progression path.
What is a Golden Reign of the Black Empire pack?
The second reward is a Golden Reign of the Black Empire pack, so every card opened from it is Golden. That makes Part 2 the more interesting reward if you collect premium cards or still have gaps in the new set.
New cards from either pack can also help with collection Feats, including the 135-card Bow Down, Mortals! requirement for the Chaos Coin.
Is the Legendary Quest Chain free?
Yes. The Hearthstone October 23 Legendary Quest Chain is an in-game quest chain, not a paid bundle or event pass. The Tavern Pass and Reign of the Black Empire bundles are separate purchases.
As long as the chain is active, you can work through its Ranked Standard requirements without buying either of them.
How this differs from the previous Legendary Quest Chain
The Hearthstone October 23 Legendary Quest Chain replaces the earlier September 29-October 20 chain. That first run rewarded an Escape from Violet Hold pack in Part 1 and a normal Reign of the Black Empire pack in Part 2.
The October 23 version is more focused on the new expansion: its first reward is already a Reign of the Black Empire pack, and Part 2 upgrades the finish to a Golden pack. It also specifically names Ranked Standard rather than Ranked play more broadly.
