Polar Star Effects

This bow’s passive skill is called Daylight’s Augury:

Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increased by 12%. After a Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst hits an opponent, 1 stack of Ashen Nightstar will be gained for 12s. When 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar are present, ATK is increased by 10/20/30/48%. The stack of Ashen Nightstar created by the Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst will be counted independently of the others.

For every weapon refinement, the Elemental Skill/Burst DMG and ATK (from stacks of Ashen Nightstar) are increased by:

1Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increase: 12%
ATK increase per 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar: 10/20/30/48%
2Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increase: 15%
ATK increase per 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar: 12.5/25/37.5/60%
3Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increase: 18%
ATK increase per 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar: 15/30/45/72%
4Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increase: 21%
ATK increase per 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar: 17.5/35/52.5/84%
5Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst DMG increase: 24%
ATK increase per 1/2/3/4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar: 20/40/60/96%

Recommended Characters

To maximize Polar Star’s potential, it should be equipped by a DPS character. This bow is the signature weapon of Tartaglia (also known as Childe) and is easily his BiS (best-in-slot) weapon.

Apart from the 11th Fatui Harbinger, this bow can also work well for 5-star characters Ganyu and Tighnari. Both characters can easily stack the Ashen Nightstar as Charged Attacks are vital in their gameplay. However, if Ganyu is in a Freeze Team, you don’t have to focus on her CRIT Rate as the Polar Star, Cryo Resonance, and the Blizzard Strayer artifact can provide that stat for her.

For 4-star characters, this weapon is a great option for Fischl. However, if you play her in a way that she only gets to summon Oz and switches out of the battlefield, you won’t be able to make the most of the Ashen Nightstar stacks to increase her damage. If this is the case, Fischl is better off with The Stringless.

Again, to get the 4 stacks of Ashen Nightstar, you need to hit opponents with Normal Attack, Charged Attack, Elemental Skill, and Elemental Burst. It is also important to note that attacks of a similar type do not stack. For instance, hitting opponents with two Normal Attacks doesn’t count as 2 stacks. Therefore, for Fischl to maximize Polar Bow‘s passive, she needs to be your Main DPS. You can also use her as an off-field Sub-DPS, but she will need to have extra field time to do at least one Normal Attack and one Charged Attack.

Lastly, it might not be the best decision if you are thinking about giving the Polar Star to Yoimiya. Her Elemental Skill technically doesn’t deal any damage; it only infuses her Normal Attacks with Pyro. This means that she won’t be able to fully stack the Ashen Nightstar.

In a nutshell, this bow will significantly boost your Main DPS bow character provided they can deal damage from their Elemental Skill, Burst, Normal Attacks, and Charged Attacks.
