Hoyoverse just dropped its latest drip marketing for the 3.1 version confirming the rumors surrounding it. Cyno, Nilou and Candace are our upcoming Sumeru characters, and here we’ll talk about Cyno skills, his Burst and more of what we know about him until now.

Cyno first made his appearance in the Chapter Teyvat trailer as the Sumeru representative, just like Diluc was for Mondstadt or Ayaka for Inazuma. He also played a role in the manga, where he took Collei back to Sumeru. He’s an Electro Polearm 5-star character, and the first male Electro unit to be released since 1.0 version.

While no Beta footage is available yet, we already got some small info dumps from his skills. Our usual leakers are having fun by throwing some random facts from the new characters’ lore, personality and sometimes even skills and synergies. These will all be briefly covered here.

Cyno skills, Talents and synergies

While describing the character, Ubatcha noted that he’s basically a 5-star Razor but fully focused on Electro. This implies on Cyno being a main DPS who gets most of his damage from auto attacks while requiring some good field time.

He even went as far as referencing another well-known character for how his Burst will look like.

For a more direct reference about Cyno skills, we have an old leak from hxg_diluc which seems to be in line with this feral-like description made. Seems like Electro boys are all about wolfs.

Just like Yae, his abilities also scale with some Elemental Mastery. This instantly makes him good for creating Elemental Reactions. Depending on how Cyno skills work, the Thundering Fury set might be a great option from C0, especially now that we can get it from the Artifact Strongboxes.

His design is inspired by the Egyptian god Anubis, and is very possible that his Burst turns him into a more feral, jackal-like version of himself. Either that or something related to one of the roles assigned to Anubis in the many myths surrounding him, always related to the afterlife.

Not being able to “save” Cyno skills probably means that it doesn’t have extra charges. This ability was also previously referenced as very similar to Xiao’s, but with a more wolfy touch to it. Hxg also made some predictions for some teammates.

Electro in general is a big winner with the introduction of Dendro, so it’s obviously a great choice to bring someone like Collei or Tighnari with him. Fischl and Zhongli are known as “generic” supports as they can fit decently in almost any team, so it doesn’t tell much about how he works.

Thundering Fury being a choice for C6 implies that his final upgrade is focused even more on reactions, which would justify even more Fischl and Beidou supporting him.

Cyno’s role in the story

Cyno is the General Mahamatra from the Sumeru Akademiya and is in charge of punishing researchers who violate any of its strict rules. While this immediately makes for a serious, intimidating character, he also has a goofy side to him as mentioned by SaveYourPrimos alt account.

This implies something bad about Al Haitham as both were seen fighting in the Sumeru animated teaser. Predictions are that he’ll be amicable to the Traveler as they know Lisa.

There’s not much more about him at the moment, but we’ll learn more about his role in the main Archon Quests in a few days as he should be present in the first acts.
