Genshin Impact: Who is Cyno?

The Archon Quest in Inazuma has long ended, and Travelers all over Teyvat can’t wait to head over to the nation called Sumeru, home to the God of Wisdom and the element Dendro.

While this means that there will most likely be a new playable element (Dendro) and a new playable Archon character (Kusanali), this also means that we’ll get to meet the character featured in the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview for this nation.

It is important to note that the characters teased in the said preview, which was released on the same day the game was made available, have all appeared and become playable in-game so far. These include characters such as Diluc from Mondstadt, Ningguang from Liyue, and Ayaka from Inazuma.

Therefore, it’s only natural to speculate that the young man, who has tan skin and medium-length grey hair we’ve seen in the preview for Sumeru, is going to be made playable, too.

This young man’s name is Cyno, and while he hasn’t made an appearance in-game yet, he has already appeared in the official manga.

What we know about Cyno so far

Cyno wears an outfit that is inspired by the traditional clothes worn during the Ancient Egyptian civilization. In fact, his headpiece resembles the head of Anubis, the god of mummification in Egyptian Mythology.

Aloof and mysterious, Cyno prefers to keep things clear and concise. He also appears to be confident because of his straightforwardness and stoicism. Perhaps this confidence is brought about by his knowledge. He is a scholar from the famous Sumeru Academia which we have heard a great deal about from our travels. Knowledgeable characters like Lisa and La Signora went there, too.

During his first appearance in the manga, Cyno comes off as cold when he threatens to turn Amber into a pig. We learn later that he is willing to help seal Collei’s archon residue.

Speculations on Cyno’s gameplay

Based on his splash art, it looks like Cyno is going to be a polearm user. However, this might change or might only be his secondary weapon just like the case of the Raiden Shogun and her katana.

Moreover, he wears a belt with what looks like a Pyro Vision. However, this hasn’t been fully shown and there is no way to confirm it at the moment.

What do you think about Cyno? Do you think he’ll be one of the playable Pyro characters? Although his release hasn’t been confirmed yet, will you try to get him if ever he becomes available?
