The most important gods in Genshin Impact have some peculiar naming conventions that can confuse some players. Essentially, every Archon has more than a single way to be referenced, and the Dendro Archon’s true name is still shrouded in mystery. But it’s very possible that this mystery is now being revealed.

It’s no secret for anyone that many figures in the game are named after demons from Ars Goetia. All the Archons fall in this category, and we also see some other characters such as the God of Time Astaroth and, of course, Paimon herself with this naming convention. But even after meeting her, we still don’t know the “demon name” for the Dendro Archon.

As is revealed in the 3.0 Archon Quests, the mysterious girl Nahida is in fact Sumeru’s Archon. The God of Wisdom best known as Lesser Lord Kusanali is involved in the main quests and gives the Traveler their required push to help them wake from the endless dream in the city.

Our moments with her are brief, leaving no space for her to inform us of her true name. But according to recent leaks from Ubatcha, we know that her true name might be Buer.

The Dendro Archon’s true name revealed

The claim was made by Ubatcha recently via discord chat and later posted on his own Twitter account.

Buer is supposedly Nahida’s original divinity name, based on another demon of Ars Goetia. Buer is represented as having knowledge of plants, herbs, and philosophy, being able to heal infirmities, and, most notably, having good familiars.

This makes it even more believable that this will be Kusanali’s true name as our small god has the Aranara on her side as her own familiars. Although most leakers assume she won’t be a healer, she was represented as a benevolent god throughout the story, going the extra mile to save her people. In other words, “healing” them from the dreams induced by the Akasha.

So basically, when we refer to the Dendro Archon, she has the following names:

  • Lesser Lord Kusanali: Used mostly used by people of Sumeru to refer to their current Archon. Similar to Rex Lapis or Raiden Shogun.
  • Nahida: Her “mortal” identity. She presents herself to the Traveler with this name, and it’s assumed that she would use it when walking around the city. Similar to Venti or Zhongli.
  • Buer: The Dendro Archon’s true name (or at least it may be) inspired by real-life references. Equivalent to Barbatos, Morax and Baal/Beelzebub.

She also has some other titles such as God of Wisdom, but those are more ways of showing respect for her than a way people would directly call her.

The original Reddit post that Ubatcha linked in his post refers to datamined voice lines from previous Beta Tests where Venti talks about the other Archons. Some of them were simply discarded (such as Raiden’s line), but some of the others may still be valid.

Those others refer to both the Hydro and Pyro Archon, referencing that their names could be Focalors and Aim respectively. The post also mentions another leaker who also claimed that her name would be Buer 4 months ago, so that’s something to consider.

Real or not, this sets up part of the future for the game’s lore and demonic references in a few more patches. The Sumeru storyline is supposedly being complete in 3.2, when we’ll have confirmation on the Dendro Archon’s true name, with Nahida herself becoming playable.

Do you believe she’ll be named after Buer, or do you think the Dendro Archon’s true name will be based on a different demon?
