Fortnite Creator Portal IARC Rating: How to Publish an Island in 2026

Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating is a required part of publishing a Creative or UEFN island. Since Fortnite’s 42.40 update on 15 October 2026, the questionnaire opens inside Creator Portal rather than sending creators to a separate ratings website.

If the Rating stage is preventing your island from moving forward, start with the two email fields, complete the content questions accurately and accept the result. The rating is assigned before moderation, so finishing this step gets your release moving but does not automatically approve it.

How to complete the Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating step

Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating is one stage in the island release process. Official Epic Games creator illustration, not a screenshot of the questionnaire.

In UEFN, use Project > Publish Project to create a private version. Then open its project in Creator Portal, select that private version, choose Create release and complete Game Details to reach Rating. In Fortnite Creative, use Island Settings > Overview > Publish Island to start the process. Here’s the current route through the questionnaire:

  1. Enter an address in Email for IARC communications. Supply the required public customer service email as well. Both may be the same address.
  2. Choose your Country of origin, then select Begin questionnaire.
  3. Under App Type, choose Game for a normal Fortnite island, then continue. The other choices are Social or Communication and All Other App Types.
  4. Answer the content questions honestly, considering the complete experience rather than just the opening area. Include gameplay, dialogue, visual themes, language, music lyrics and player interaction where relevant.
  5. Submit the questionnaire and check the age ratings assigned for the different regions.
  6. If an answer is incorrect, use Back to questionnaire to change it. When the assigned ratings are correct, tick the acceptance box and click Finish.
  7. Click Next to open Promotional Media. Add the required artwork, complete the remaining release screens and submit the island for moderation.

The Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating form is now embedded in this release flow. Some older Epic help pages still describe a redirect to the IARC website, but Epic explicitly changed that behaviour in 42.40. Use the on-screen controls in the current portal rather than looking for an obsolete external questionnaire button.

What to check when the rating will not let you publish

If the Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating stage is incomplete, return to the Rating screen and check the unfinished requirements. A missing IARC communications email, an empty public support address or an unfinished questionnaire can stop you progressing. Check the red exclamation mark beside an incomplete publishing screen, fill in the missing information and finish the current release rather than starting another.

Pay attention to the questions about player communication, particularly if the island supports multiplayer. Epic has specific guidance for Fortnite’s built-in reporting, blocking and chat moderation features. Follow those instructions for the island you are publishing instead of guessing how a player’s voice or text settings should affect the answers.

Once an IARC rating exists, the separate content review still applies. Epic may reject a release if the answers do not match what players can encounter. The Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating is therefore a content classification, not a moderation bypass.

UK PEGI 16 and other regional rating limits

One island can receive different classifications across territories. Fortnite’s current maximum for the UK and wider PEGI region is PEGI 16. In North America the ESRB limit is Teen; Australia uses Mature, Brazil and Germany have a 16 maximum, and South Korea has 12+.

A rating above the allowed maximum for one territory makes the island unavailable there. If the assigned classification exceeds every territory’s maximum, Creator Portal will prevent publishing until the island content is adjusted and the questionnaire completed again. You cannot pick a lower PEGI or ESRB label yourself: IARC’s participating rating authorities determine the classifications from the submitted answers.

For a UK creator, the Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating displayed to local players will use PEGI. A US player looking at the same published island can see the ESRB classification instead. These labels also help parents restrict islands through Fortnite’s parental controls.

When to retake the questionnaire after an island update

You don’t need to repeat the Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating questionnaire for every small patch. Epic requires new answers when changes to the island would change your questionnaire responses. Adding a new combat sequence, different dialogue or music, for example, is worth checking against the actual questions before submitting the next release.

Use the Retake Questionnaire control on the release’s Ratings tab when those answers need updating. Retaking the questionnaire preserves the island’s IARC certificate ID. The updated answers can change its rating; finish the release and submit it for review.

Can you appeal an IARC age rating?

If you think the Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating is incorrect, first recheck your responses. For a published island, the certificate email from IARC explains the appeal route. If an unpublished island exceeds the maximum in all regions and cannot proceed, Epic directs creators to its support process rather than promising that accepting the rating will unlock publication.

Appeals and rating checks can take time. Check the rest of your submission too: the required landscape and portrait artwork and transparent island logo are separate from age classification, as are any optional gameplay videos.

Complete the Fortnite Creator Portal IARC rating first, then finish the artwork, attribution and visibility screens before sending the release to Epic for review.
