ESO Moon Hunter Keep Dungeon is a four-player Wolfhunter dungeon in the northern woods of Reaper’s March. It features five bosses and finishes with Vykosa the Ascendant. The dangerous mechanics are not just heavy hits: Jailer Melitus needs interrupts, Hedge Maze Guardian requires players to free a pinned teammate, and Archivist Ernarde makes everyone solve a rune matching mechanic.

This is the original Normal and Veteran group dungeon, distinct from the newer solo Story Mode. The walkthrough below follows the five fights in order and covers the achievements you can pursue on Veteran.

How to enter Moon Hunter Keep

Travel to Reaper’s March, find Moon Hunter Keep in the northern forest, or queue through the Dungeon Finder when eligible. The entrance begins the Moonlight Ascent dungeon quest from Adonatus Varian. Completing that quest awards gold, a skill point and a dungeon gear reward.

A typical group has one tank, one healer and two damage dealers. The bosses include dangerous werewolf adds and attacks that need another player’s interrupt. Your group should agree to stop damage and handle priority adds rather than attempting to burn through every phase.

ESO Moon Hunter Keep first boss: Jailer Melitus

Tank Jailer Melitus away from the group, avoid the ground effects and kill werewolf adds as they appear. He periodically stuns or pins a player, often the tank, before charging a heavy attack. Another player must interrupt the channel promptly or the victim can be killed.

For Jailer Melitus, all players should be ready to interrupt rather than assuming the stunned target can save themselves. Don’t stand in Bloody Geysers; avoiding their damage is relevant to the Bloody Mess achievement.

ESO Moon Hunter Keep Hedge Maze Guardian mechanics

The Hedge Maze Guardian can leap onto a player and stun them. Someone else must interrupt the boss quickly to free the pinned player. Spread enough that the pounce doesn’t stun the whole party, then clear Direwolves whose attacks can slow movement.

Kill Shock Wardens as they appear. They strengthen the Guardian while alive. When a Warden dies, its body leaves an electric area: have the tank move the enraged Guardian through it to remove its buff. The Root of the Problem achievement requires avoiding the Lurcher Roots attack.

Hedge Maze Guardian: find the Spriggans

When Hedge Maze Guardian reaches certain health thresholds, Spriggans appear in the maze and heal the boss. Find and kill them to continue the fight rather than attacking the boss through its healing. Stranglers can also pin players in the maze; teammates should stay close enough to interrupt and rescue anyone caught. If you become rooted by the Guardian, dodge roll to break free.

Mylenne Moon-Caller: wolves and pressure

Mylenne Moon-Caller summons packs of wolves. Your group should kill or control the summoned wolves and avoid getting surrounded. Tanks keep the boss facing away from fragile players, while the damage dealers clear priority wolves before resuming the boss.

As the encounter progresses, its add pressure can increase. Move out of marked attacks and watch for wolves approaching the healer. Saving an area attack for a pack is usually more effective than splitting damage across many individual targets.

Archivist Ernarde: rune matching and Hulking Werewolves

The Archivist Ernarde encounter is a common point of failure. Kill incoming adds before they transform into Hulking Werewolves where possible. If one transforms, the tank must taunt and turn its devastating ground slam and breath away from the group.

During the rune roulette, Archivist Ernarde cycles through symbols and chooses one. Each player must stand in a separate pad matching the chosen symbol before the blast. Don’t crowd onto one pad or wait until the last second. This is a four-player coordination mechanic, not something a single tank can handle alone.

ESO Moon Hunter Keep finale: Vykosa, Ary and Zel

The dungeon ends with Vykosa and her two chained wolf pets, Ary and Zel. Their shared chain limits how far each can move. Have the tank control one pet to restrict the other’s reach, then focus the exposed wolf and clear subsequent add waves rather than pushing Vykosa’s health through several thresholds at once.

Vykosa can fear players and deal powerful melee damage; break free and block heavy attacks. Later, Archivist Ernarde’s ghost reappears, bringing dangerous ground effects. As with the earlier rune encounter, avoid stacking and clear spawned enemies before finishing the fight.

ESO Moon Hunter Keep Veteran achievements and loot

The group dungeon includes Normal, Veteran and Vykosa Hard Mode. Veteran achievements include Root of the Problem, On a Short Leash, Running with the Pack for a timed completion and Head of the Pack for a no-death clear. Veteran Vykosa can drop the Vykosa monster mask.

If you only want the single-player version, use our ESO Moon Hunter Keep Story Mode guide. This walkthrough covers the original group boss fights, group mechanics, Veteran challenges and rewards.
