The Escape From Playtime playtest is the first chance to register interest in Mob Entertainment’s new co-op survival-horror game before Early Access begins on 21 October 2026. Registration is open through Mob’s FirstLook playtesting system, but joining the waitlist should not be confused with a guaranteed invitation.
Escape From Playtime is a 1–8 player game set inside the Poppy Playtime universe, this time putting players in control of the Smiling Critters as they explore shifting areas of the factory, collect resources and avoid hostile Playtime Co. creations. This Escape From Playtime playtest guide explains how to join the test, what hardware you need and what Mob has actually confirmed about platforms and Early Access.
Escape From Playtime playtest: how to join

Mob Entertainment is directing players to its FirstLook community for the Escape From Playtime playtest. The process is a registration/waitlist rather than an instant Steam Playtest button that automatically grants access.
- Open the official FirstLook playtesting site.
- Join or sign in to the FirstLook community and locate Escape From Playtime.
- Choose the option to join the playtest waitlist and complete any requested profile or eligibility information.
- Watch the email address connected to your FirstLook account for an invitation or further testing instructions.
- If selected, follow the invitation instructions rather than downloading keys or builds from unofficial third-party sites.
Registration for the Escape From Playtime playtest does not mean every player will be selected. Mob has advertised upcoming tests and a waitlist, but it has not published a rule saying all registrations receive access. Exact testing windows can also change, so the invitation email and official FirstLook page should be treated as the source of truth for your account.
When does Escape From Playtime enter Early Access?
The Steam release date is 21 October 2026. The Escape From Playtime playtest therefore sits in the useful pre-release window for players who want to try the systems before Early Access and provide feedback. Mob says Early Access will begin with the full eight-character roster, one starter zone and a core enemy lineup, with more zones, enemies and features planned around player feedback.
Mob has not described the playtest as a replacement for the full Early Access build. Treat it as testing access: features, balance, availability and progression can change before October 21.
Escape From Playtime PC requirements
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10/11 | Windows 10/11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-9100 / AMD Ryzen 5 3500 | Intel Core i9-11900K / AMD Ryzen 9 5900X |
| Memory | 8GB RAM | 16GB RAM |
| Graphics | GeForce GTX 1650 / Radeon RX 470 | GeForce RTX 3070 / Radeon RX 6800 XT |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
Those are the requirements currently shown on the official Steam page. The Escape From Playtime playtest is PC-focused, so meeting the minimum spec is the sensible baseline before joining the waitlist. Mob’s FAQ also says the game currently supports Windows 10 or 11 only; macOS and Linux are not supported at present.
Is Escape From Playtime on consoles?
No console version has been announced for the Escape From Playtime playtest. Current official information points to Steam on Windows for the testing and Early Access period. That means there is no confirmed PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo playtest to sign up for right now. If Mob later announces ports, this page will be updated rather than assuming the wider Poppy Playtime platform list automatically applies here.
How many players can join a match?
Escape From Playtime supports solo play or online co-op for up to eight players. The factory changes between runs through procedurally generated environments, while players search for tools, hiding places, alternate routes and materials requested by the mysterious Voice. Proximity voice chat is supported, although Mob’s FAQ says a microphone is not required.
The Early Access description also confirms the complete eight-character Smiling Critters roster at launch. We are deliberately not turning each character into a separate guide until their abilities and meaningful gameplay differences are documented well enough to support one.
Is the Escape From Playtime playtest free?
The official pages currently describe joining a playtest waitlist but do not publish a separate playtest purchase price. That is not the same as confirming the final game will be free. Steam has not yet displayed an Early Access price in the material we checked, so we would rather leave the commercial model unconfirmed than guess.
Does Escape From Playtime replace Project: Playtime?
Mob is presenting Escape From Playtime as a new game in the Poppy Playtime universe, not as a patch or renamed build of Project: Playtime. Its central loop is built around the Smiling Critters, shifting factory layouts, scavenging and survival for up to eight players. If you followed the older multiplayer title, approach this as a separate project with its own Early Access roadmap.
The Escape From Playtime playtest is therefore most useful for players who want hands-on access before October and are comfortable with unfinished systems changing. For the latest official feature list and requirements, use the Steam page and Mob Entertainment’s official announcement.
