Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses aren’t fights you can win by hitting the nearest weak spot and hoping for the best. Norgan’s first dragon regenerates because the story hasn’t given you a way to finish it, Fimbl shrugs off ice magic, and Gagana needs a ritual before the battle even begins.
This walkthrough covers all seven major scripted encounters in Forsaken Dominion and the Into Rancor post-game chapter. The order, weaknesses, objectives and notable rewards are included, with optional enemies kept separate. Expect story spoilers for the final dragon and Satanachia.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses: all seven major encounters
The main Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses are the Rotten Dragon, Mournful Giant, Fimbl, Gagana, Willan Barbatos, Fallen Dragon and Satanachia. Two appear during Sage’s Wisdom, while Satanachia is tied to the later Into Rancor quest. Other new enemies aren’t automatically mandatory story boss fights.
Rotten Dragon: Rumbles in the North
The first of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses attacks near Beorcan Stronghold. You’re meant to repel the Rotten Dragon, not permanently kill it. Keep your Pawns supported, attack exposed areas when safe and survive until Eir’s intervention moves the story forward. Its apparent regeneration isn’t a signal to keep fighting for hours or restart with a different vocation.
Once that encounter ends, return to the Norgandian Settlement and follow the investigation. You will discover the real reason the dragon refuses to die much later in the campaign.

Mournful Giant: break its tusks
This Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses encounter is part of Sage’s Wisdom, Riddle of the Body. Talk to Dwayne at the Norgandian Inn and rest until morning to reveal the lead. Follow the roar towards Nival Gorge, carrying Heatstones because the surrounding whiteout drains your party’s stamina.
Fight away from its swinging branch and freezing breath. Strike the legs to topple the creature, then damage the head and tusks. If you can climb its back and pull out a lodged blade, you’ll also deal heavy damage and interrupt it. Take the Mournful Giant’s Tusk back to the Sage afterward.
Fimbl: aim fire at the glowing chest heart
Fimbl is the ice dragon in Sage’s Wisdom, Riddle of the Soul, and one of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses where elemental preparation pays off. Avoid ice damage and use fire. Its freezing breath and ice spikes are dangerous, so move out of the attack path instead of letting a Mage stand directly in front.
While the chest is closed, hit its head. When the heart glows during casting or after a knockdown, focus your strongest attacks there. The armored trunk absorbs much of the damage you might otherwise deal. Collect the Frozen Wyrmslife Crystal and present it to the Sage to finish the riddle.
Gagana: three braziers and the throat weak point
Gagana won’t spawn just because you visit its grotto. During The Castle in the Ice, light three braziers and place a defeated Nokken on each one. All three bodies must be burning. That’s the trickiest part of this Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses encounter before the actual fight.
When the fiery creature arrives, avoid its prolonged breath, tail lashes and talons. The red sac at its throat swells before the flame attack; strike it to topple the beast and attack its head during the opening. Afterward, collect Firebird Tallow and use the ballista at Beorcan Stronghold to break the castle’s ice barrier.

Willan Barbatos: survive the dark-magic attacks
In Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way, Willan Barbatos emerges among demon attacks at the Shrine of Wave. This Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses fight is complicated by illusions, dark magic and other threats distracting your Pawns. Watch your healer, move out of spell impacts and free grabbed teammates rather than chasing damage at any cost.
Physical slash and strike attacks are reliable, while Barbatos-type demons resist several elements. Willan eventually retreats through a portal towards Niflhel. Follow the objective rather than expecting an ordinary monster’s death animation to finish the story here.
Fallen Dragon: the actual fight in Reunion
Reunion is the story confrontation that can finally end the Fallen Dragon’s unnatural life. This is not a repeat of the opening stronghold battle. The Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses progression must reach the investigation into Rovall’s body, soul and will before the final victory becomes possible.
During the fight, target the exposed core and other vulnerable parts. Large sections of the body are protected and can absorb attacks with almost no result. Use strong physical damage when the core opens, keep injured Pawns alive and follow changing story objectives as the creature moves.
Satanachia: Into Rancor’s post-game finale
Satanachia is the last of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses covered here. After the Reunion story has advanced, complete the Blade of Rancor objectives and use the blade at Abyss Ridge to enter Niflhel Depth. Stock up before jumping: the battle begins shortly after landing, without an intervening shop.
The shallow-water arena provides little cover. Block incoming orbs, dodge ice bombardments and strike Satanachia’s head with physical attacks whenever it comes within range. Status conditions such as Sleep and Silence aren’t dependable. Completing Into Rancor rewards 500,000 XP, 100,000 Gold and 15,000 Rift Crystals.
Are Evil Eye, Death and Lesser Demon bosses too?
There are additional dangerous enemies throughout the expansion, but they aren’t all required encounters in the same seven-part storyline. Evil Eye, Death, Blemmyae, Snowfoot and Lesser Demon can demand their own tactics. This Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses list covers the major quest fights, not a complete enemy encyclopaedia.
Against Lesser Demon, ice is better than fire, which is the opposite of Fimbl’s weakness. Blemmyae can grab Pawns and punish a distracted party. Those differences are why keeping more than one damage type available is so useful in the northern region.
Preparing your party for Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses
The Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses are easier with a balanced party: a Mage for recovery and elemental support, a ranged attacker for flying enemies, and somebody who can climb and punish staggered weak points. Carry curatives and Heatstones for the snow, and consider Wakestones before the post-game fight.
New relic equipment isn’t always better simply because you found it in Norgan. Jiera’s appraisals can produce variable stats and skills, so compare your gear before replacing a reliable weapon. Our relic guide covers that system, while our Hard Mode guide explains the difficulty settings.

Work through the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen bosses in story order and treat each objective seriously. Repel the first dragon, break the Giant’s tusks, use fire against Fimbl, target Gagana’s throat and keep your best supplies for Reunion and Satanachia. Those specific answers make a bigger difference than another few levels of damage.
