Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog is finally available in the Dark Arisen expansion, but it isn’t a setting you can switch on when you arrive in Norgan. The Tailor Equipment service belongs to Hal, the local blacksmith, and you need to recover an old crafting treatise before he knows how to use it.
There’s also a restriction that matters before you spend gold: you can change the appearance of eligible Norgan relic gear, not every weapon or piece of armour from the original game. This walkthrough explains the unlock quest and the limits of the finished system so you don’t chase a menu that isn’t available yet.
How to unlock Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog
Start by reaching the Norgandian Settlement and pushing the Forsaken Dominion story through its settlement-rebuilding objectives. Reaching the Far Shore, given by Jiera, becomes available after the Rumbles in the North portion of the story and the connected progression around The Castle in the Ice and Soul Searching. If it isn’t there, finish Village Defense and your current main objectives, then check with her again.
- Accept Reaching the Far Shore from Jiera in the Norgandian Settlement.
- Visit the Sealed Study and ask Polyeidus how to cross Lake Norgan; follow his direction to Ser Ryatt.
- Learn about Fimbl, the ice dragon whose death can freeze the lake, and report the plan to Jiera.
- Fight Fimbl north of the Mountain Stronghold, then pursue it to the stronghold courtyard.
- Finish the dragon at Lake Norgan using the shoreline ballistae.
- Rest at the inn for roughly a day, cross the newly frozen lake and enter Lakeside Grotto.
- Open the chest containing the Taillour-Crafte Treatise. Show it to Jiera, then deliver it to Hal.
Where to find the treatise that unlocks Tailor Equipment

The treatise that unlocks Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog isn’t sold at Hal’s shop. It’s inside the Lakeside Grotto on the southern shore of Lake Norgan, which the Brine prevents you from crossing normally. The Fimbl encounter isn’t optional for this unlock: its corpse eventually freezes a section of the water into a passable route.
In the lake encounter, the dragon hovers above the water, so conventional melee attacks are poor choices. Use the ballistae at the ruins on the northern shore, shelter from ice projectiles, and switch to another siege weapon if the one you’re using is destroyed. After the kill, rest until the frozen crossing appears, then follow the quest marker into the grotto.
When you deliver the book to Hal, Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog becomes available: Tailor Equipment appears in his services alongside the ordinary blacksmith options. You don’t need to craft a new outfit to activate it, and the quest doesn’t unlock transmog at every merchant.
How Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog works
To use Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog, talk to Hal and choose Tailor Equipment, then select the eligible equipped item or one from your inventory. Choose the appearance you want to apply and confirm the displayed gold charge. Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog keeps the target’s damage, defence and relic properties; only the visible model changes.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What can receive a new appearance? | Appraised Norgan relic weapons and armour, including the supported shield and clothing slots. |
| Can I make a base-game weapon look different? | No. Base-game equipment can provide a look, but isn’t itself an eligible target. |
| Which appearances can I use? | Looks from gear you’ve acquired, including items from the original world. |
| Are looks consumed? | No. Tailoring changes appearance; it doesn’t destroy the source item. |
| Can cloaks, masks or glasses be tailored? | No. These cosmetic slots aren’t supported by the service. |
| Does it cost anything? | Yes, gold. Owning the source appearance can reduce the charge. |

Why Tailor Equipment is missing or greyed out
If Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog is missing, first check that Reaching the Far Shore is complete and that you actually handed the treatise to Hal. Delivering it only to Jiera doesn’t finish the unlock. If the service is visible but your favourite piece can’t be selected, check whether it’s an appraised Norgan relic rather than normal gear from Vermund or Battahl.
Your Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog appearance list depends on what your character has discovered. Missing cosmetic options don’t mean you need to beat the story again; they’re usually an ownership or eligibility issue. And if you’re looking to change your Arisen’s face, hair or tattoos, that’s a separate character-customisation system covered in our hairstyles guide.
Once unlocked, Dragon’s Dogma 2 transmog gives powerful relic builds much more freedom without forcing you to sacrifice stats for a matching outfit.
