Dragon’s Dogma 2 Offering Flames: Where to Find Them and How to Use Them

Dragon's Dogma 2 Dark Arisen main pawns

Offering Flames are the key to unlocking the strongest benefits from Norgan’s Obelisks of Benediction in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. Finding an obelisk alone isn’t enough: without a flame, you can buy the introductory skill, but you can’t unlock its superior form and other permanent benefits.

The confusing part is where these resources come from. Norgan’s main quest doesn’t hand out everything you need, and the twelve Lost Rites dungeons are spread across the original game’s map. This guide explains the first guaranteed flame, how to locate more and what using one actually grants.

How to get Offering Flames in Dragon’s Dogma 2

The main route to Offering Flames is clearing the Lost Rites challenge dungeons in Vermund and Battahl. First visit the Stardrop Inn in Vernworth at night and ask Captain Brant about the uncovered ruins. This opens the first trial, Devilkin Hollow, reached from Darkhorde Cave in western Malachite Forest.

Finish that trial and open the reward chest. You’ll receive an Offering Flame and the Proving Ground Compass, which reveals the remaining main-world Lost Rites entrances when used from your inventory. The compass is particularly useful because some of the trial entrances aren’t marked until you’ve started this side activity.

Which Lost Rites give Offering Flames?

Completing Lost Rites trials and opening their reward caches supplies Offering Flames. There are twelve dungeons in total, but you can’t run the whole set immediately: several have vocation or party restrictions, and the three final trials are found on the exposed seabed of the Unmoored World.

  • Devilkin Hollow is the first place to earn one, with no special entry restriction.
  • Other main-world trials appear after you use the Proving Ground Compass. Check each gate’s conditions before entering.
  • Interminable Corridor requires all party members to be carrying Very Light loads; Wyrmsblood Arena limits your Arisen to two equipped weapon skills.
  • Precipitous Catacombs requires Archer or Magick Archer, while Shrouded Warren admits only your main pawn.
  • The Molten Gauntlet and Seafloor Sepulcher are late-game challenges; their completion opens the Final Proving Ground.

Use our full Lost Rites locations guide to match each dungeon to its admission rules. If a door won’t open, that doesn’t mean your Offering Flames have been exhausted. You may simply need to change your party, equipment or story progress.

Where to use Offering Flames

Travel to Norgan and find an Obelisk of Benediction. There are nine, tied to Fighter, Mage, Thief, Archer, Sorcerer, Warrior, Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer and Trickster. Warfarer doesn’t have a dedicated obelisk. Four are accessible relatively early; later ones sit beyond the areas opened by Rumbles in the North and Sage’s Wisdom.

When interacting with an obelisk, you can buy its entry-level weapon skill using Discipline Points without spending a flame. Offering a flame activates the full menu, including the improved weapon skill, a one-time permanent stat enhancement and a temporary buff that increases the chance of particular rare spoils.

Should you spend an Offering Flame straight away?

Your first flame is usually best spent on the vocation you actively use, or the one your main pawn relies on. A Fighter, for example, can unlock Whirlwind Strike and the advanced Hurricane Strike; a Mage can unlock Virtuous Bolt and Exalted Bolt. The permanent stat enhancement helps both the Arisen and main pawn, so it’s worth comparing their needs before choosing.

The skills and enhancements also require Discipline Points. If your balance is too low when you reach a monument, keep adventuring, earn Discipline from enemies and return. An unspent flame sitting in your inventory does nothing on its own.

Offering Flames versus Discipline Points

Resource How you earn it What it unlocks
Offering Flame Clear a Lost Rites trial and claim the reward Activates an obelisk’s advanced benefits
Discipline Points Defeat enemies while progressing vocations Pays for individual skills and enhancement purchases
Norgan Ducats Explore, loot and defeat monsters in Norgan Purchases Dwayne’s shop and rare-trade items

Don’t confuse Offering Flames with Norgan Ducats, which Dwayne accepts at the settlement inn, or Rift Crystals, which Jiera charges for relic appraisal. Flames have their own specific purpose at the nine vocation monuments.

Offering Flames not working: what to check

  • Make sure you’re interacting with a Norgan obelisk rather than a Lost Rites entrance.
  • Check that you have a flame in your inventory and enough Discipline Points for the desired purchase.
  • If the advanced skill is missing, activate the monument with the flame before opening its upgraded options.
  • If a monument isn’t visible on the map, physically visit it once. Obelisk icons appear after discovery.
  • If you can’t reach a snowfield monument, advance through Sage’s Wisdom to unlock the region.

The important distinction with Offering Flames is that finding a trial, completing it and opening its chest are separate actions. Claim the reward before leaving the dungeon, then choose which vocation will benefit most from the upgrade.
