Does Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Have Local Multiplayer? Yes. You can play with up to four people on one Nintendo Switch 2 in supported sports, without Nintendo Switch Online. Friend Lobby is separate: that online mode supports eight players across systems, with up to two players on each console.

Local multiplayer is intended for friends and family sharing a Switch 2. Choose a supported sport, select the available player slots and give each participant the compatible controllers required for that activity. The four-person figure is a console-wide maximum, not a promise that every sport supports four at once. The main game guide compares ranked sports with the three leisure activities.

The US product page lists one to four players on a single system. Nintendo also describes the game as playable online or offline, so local multiplayer is a confirmed part of the package rather than something inferred from earlier Wii Sports games.

Because Nintendo Switch Sports Resort uses motion controls, controller availability matters. Nintendo notes that multiplayer requires compatible controllers for players and that additional accessories may be required. Exact controller needs can vary by sport and player count. Island Crown offers separate ranking ladders for nine competitive sports.

The 12 sports are Boxing, Table Tennis, Archery, Tennis, Volleyball, Bowling, Basketball, Golf, Thumb Wrestling, Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane. Nintendo has not yet released a chart showing the maximum local player count for every individual sport.

When nobody else is playing, Island Crown gives you CPU opponents to face in nine competitive sports. You can also explore Wuhu Island by yourself through the leisure activities.

Joining with separate profiles

Nintendo’s Switch 2 bundle information also lists local wireless support, although the company has not yet provided a detailed local-wireless player chart for Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. The safest confirmed number today is the one-to-four-player single-system listing. Friend Lobby supports eight people across multiple consoles, with up to two on one Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch Online is not required simply to use the offline side of the game. The paid membership and Nintendo Account requirement apply to online features, so families playing together on one Switch 2 can use local multiplayer without maintaining an online subscription.

Local play versus Friend Lobby

For points and cosmetics, have each player choose an individual system user profile instead of a guest where possible. Hands-on reviewers report that guest participants may not earn their own persistent Spocco Points. You can still play the activity together, but check the reward screen under each player’s profile.

The multiplayer framework sits beside a substantial offline package. Wuhu Island exploration, Island Crown and local same-system play all work without turning the whole game into an online-only experience, while Nintendo Switch Online is reserved for the features that actually connect over the internet.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launched exclusively for Switch 2 on 22 October 2026. All twelve activities are included in the game.

Starting local multiplayer

Pick a sport you enjoy and try its regular matches before moving into harder Island Crown opponents. The rankings are tracked separately for each of the nine competitive sports.

The player-count guide explains how local and online limits differ, and the subscription guide lists the modes available without Nintendo Switch Online.
