Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: Complete Skill and Keyword Overview

Diablo 4 Warlock Skills

Diablo 4 Warlock Skills include 24 active abilities across six branches: Basic, Core, Defensive, Archfiend, Sigil and Ultimate. Some summon demons, some control enemies and others let you throw fire or shadow attacks across the battlefield. Picking the right abilities is easier once you know what each actually does, rather than simply looking at its name in a build guide.

The catch with Diablo 4 Warlock Skills is that a strong six-skill bar needs more than six individually good abilities. Warlocks manage Wrath and Dominance, can bind a Greater Demon through a Soul Shard and unlock variants that change the way attacks behave. Here’s the full list of active skills, what their effects mean and which combinations are worth trying first.

Blizzard divides Diablo 4 Warlock Skills into four Basic, five Core, four Defensive, four Archfiend, three Sigil and four Ultimate abilities. The lists below cover the base skills individually, including how each contributes to combat. Skill upgrades, passive nodes and Soul Shard demon commands are separate from these 24 active entries.

Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: four Basic abilities

Basic abilities give you something to cast between more expensive attacks. They are particularly useful while levelling or when you need to recover Wrath.

SkillWhat it does
DoomDamages enemies with a sigil and applies Hex, setting them up to take more Abyss damage.
Molten BombLobs volatile lava at a target and damages a small area, useful against clustered foes.
Command FallenSends a Fallen Lunatic charging at a target before it explodes, contributing Lesser Demon interactions.
Hellion StingWhips forward with a demon tail and can Eviscerate targets, making it useful with Bleeding effects.

Doom pairs naturally with Hex and Abyss damage, whereas Molten Bomb suits an early Hellfire build. Command Fallen becomes more interesting when your Soul Shard rewards summoning Lesser Demons. You normally won’t need all four Basics on one bar.

Core Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: five main attacks

Your Core skill usually becomes the centre of your damage build. Most consume Wrath, so decide which one you enjoy and build a way to sustain it.

SkillWhat it does
BombardmentDrops demons onto an area, dealing damage with each impact. Some upgrades change its spread.
Umbral ChainsThrows a shadow chain that damages and briefly links enemies, helping Abyss-focused attacks.
Blazing ScreamLaunches a damaging demon skull. Orbital Scream and Skull Splitter change the attack’s movement and projectiles.
Hell FractureOpens fiery cracks in the ground that deal area damage and can erupt on subsequent casts.
Dread ClawsConjures damaging shadow claws, a natural partner for Shadowform effects and Litany of Sable.

Blazing Scream is popular for a skull-based Hellfire build, while Hell Fracture rewards repeated damage in the same area. Dread Claws is attractive if you’re working with Shadowform. These attacks want different variants and gear, so don’t automatically copy several together.

Defensive Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: control, protection and mobility

A good Warlock needs somewhere to stand when monsters rush in. Defensive skills offer crowd control, a decoy, a physical barrier or a quick escape.

SkillWhat it does
Dark PrisonCreates a shadow totem that tethers enemies inside its area and stops them escaping.
Tortured WretchSummons a tortured demon that hurts and Taunts enemies, drawing attacks away from you.
Wall of AgonyCreates a line of frenzied demons that blocks movement and strikes enemies in front of it.
Nether StepTeleports through shadow, granting Shadowform and a temporary movement-speed boost.

Dark Prison makes a strong all-round defensive choice because it contains a dangerous group. Nether Step is excellent for repositioning and collecting Shadowform stacks. Wall of Agony works best across the route an enemy pack is about to take.

Archfiend Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: heavy demon attacks

Archfiend abilities spend Dominance and call powerful Greater Demon attacks. Vanguard builds gain additional demon interactions when casting them during Demonform.

SkillWhat it does
RampageCalls a brute that repeatedly smashes enemies and can Eviscerate those it strikes.
Infernal BreathSummons a floating demon head that repeatedly breathes damaging fire at enemies.
Profane SentinelCalls a demonic eye whose beam applies Vulnerable and periodically blasts its target.
Tyrant’s GraspSummons a giant hand that pulls enemies away from you while dealing damage.

Rampage offers ongoing attacks from a brute, Profane Sentinel applies Vulnerable, and Tyrant’s Grasp pulls enemies away from you. These aren’t interchangeable: choose the summon that supports your main attack and how you’re positioning enemies.

Sigil Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: three rituals

Sigils create zones that reward good placement and keeping enemies fighting inside the ritual. Their extra effects become stronger as kills feed the area.

SkillWhat it does
Sigil of ChaosGrants Volatility while you’re inside; kills increase the ritual’s chance to make enemies explode.
Sigil of SubversionHexes enemies; kills power shadow trails that can periodically grant Shadowform.
Sigil of SummonsExtends summoned demon duration; kills fuel additional summoned attackers.

Sigil of Chaos is a natural Hellfire choice because it supports Volatility. Sigil of Subversion provides Hex and Shadowform interactions, while Sigil of Summons helps demon-heavy builds keep creatures attacking. Cast the ritual where the battle will happen, not behind the enemy pack.

Ultimate Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: four powerful options

Ultimate abilities give your build its biggest transformation, summon or burst attack. They don’t all do the same job, so match the Ultimate to your damage plan.

SkillWhat it does
ApocalypseCreates a huge sigil that detonates after a delay, delivering heavy area damage.
Fiend of AbaddonSummons a massive fiend that attacks for a duration, fitting demon-focused builds.
Terror SwarmSummons a terror that attacks and releases a damaging swarm over time.
MetamorphosisTransforms you into a demon, granting Demonform and changing available Archfiend options.

Apocalypse rewards timing and keeping enemies inside the blast. Metamorphosis is much more involved: its variant can change the rest of your bar and the risks you take. The Destruction Demon variant empowers Hellfire but makes your own Life a resource, so survival matters.

Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: what the five class keywords mean

You will see Hex, Eviscerate, Shadowform, Demonform and Volatility throughout Diablo 4 Warlock Skills. These aren’t just labels for visual effects. They change which skills and equipment actually work together.

KeywordGameplay effect
HexStacks up to three times and increases Abyss damage taken based on the enemy’s missing Life.
EviscerateRemoves a portion of the target’s Bleeding Life immediately, then adds more Bleeding damage.
ShadowformGrants Unhindered, with movement creating Stealth while consuming stacks.
DemonformIncreases Maximum Life; kills during the form increase Demonology skill damage.
VolatilityCan empower Hellfire skills when you attack, making a subsequent empowered cast hit harder.

For Diablo 4 Warlock Skills built around Doom and Umbral Chains, Hex is one of the effects to watch. Blazing Scream setups frequently value Volatility, while Mastermind builds exploit Shadowform. Eviscerate belongs with skills such as Hellion Sting and Rampage that can trigger it. Don’t confuse those effects or expect them to trigger on every spell.

Diablo 4 Warlock Skills: Soul Shards and bound demons

Soul Shards unlock through the Warlock class quest at level 15, while their additional Fragment options become available at level 30. Each Shard binds a different Greater Demon and changes your core combat approach. The demon’s summon and command abilities come from the class mechanic, so they’re not included in the 24 base skills listed above.

Soul ShardBound demonGood supporting skills
LegionAe’gromCommand Fallen and Sigil of Summons support repeated demon activity.
VanguardAbodianMetamorphosis and Archfiend abilities benefit from Demonform interactions.
MastermindLaalishDread Claws, Nether Step and other Shadowform or Abyss skills.
RitualistVollachDoom, Sigils and Apocalypse support Hex, Volatility and empowered damage.

When comparing Diablo 4 Warlock Skills between two build guides, check the Soul Shard and Fragment before spending points. A Vanguard character gets bonus Archfiend summons during Demonform, while Mastermind leans into stealth and Abyss effects. Both may use some of the same skill names but play completely differently.

Which skills should you take first?

For your first ten levels, choose one Basic skill and one Core damage skill, then add a defensive tool as it becomes available. Doom and Hell Fracture give you a workable way to start combining effects; Molten Bomb and Blazing Scream suit a more direct Hellfire approach. Spend points on the main attack before buying every ability in the tree.

Once the Soul Shard unlocks, start refining the six slots around its strengths. Legion likes frequent summons, Vanguard wants useful Archfiend casts during Demonform, Mastermind works with Shadowform and Ritualist benefits from building its ritual effects. Resource management still matters: Wrath supports most spell attacks, while Dominance pays for demon summoning and commands.

Finally, a skill’s variant can change tags, targeting and even its damage pattern. If you’re following a Season 15 build, check the exact variant and any required Unique rather than equipping only the named base skill. Diablo 4 Warlock Skills are much easier to understand when each choice has a clear purpose on your bar.
