Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS is not an available graphics mode at launch. Blizzard has confirmed that the Nintendo version tops out at 40 FPS in Performance Mode, with Quality Mode targeting 30 FPS instead.
That is the clean answer if you were holding off for the technical breakdown. The port can run above 30 FPS, but neither handheld nor docked play has a 60 FPS option in Blizzard’s published launch settings.
Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS: what Blizzard confirmed instead

Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS would have been the obvious headline target for players coming from newer PlayStation, Xbox or PC hardware, but Blizzard has chosen a different balance. Handheld Performance Mode runs at 1080p and 40 FPS. Docked Performance Mode is also 1080p and 40 FPS, provided the connected display supports at least 120Hz.
Blizzard’s official Switch 2 FAQ says Quality Mode runs at 1080p/30 in handheld and 1440p/30 while docked. In other words, the choice is 30 FPS with the higher docked resolution or 40 FPS at 1080p. There is no confirmed 60 FPS profile hidden behind another resolution setting.
Why the 40 FPS mode needs 120Hz when docked
Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS is not required for the game to feel noticeably smoother than 30 FPS. A 40 FPS mode can divide cleanly across a 120Hz refresh cycle, with each rendered frame displayed for three refreshes. That gives a more even presentation than trying to force 40 FPS through a conventional 60Hz output cadence.
That is why Blizzard specifically states that docked Performance Mode needs a compatible 120Hz-or-higher display. It is not a promise that the game becomes 120 FPS; the game target remains 40 FPS. The display is simply refreshing fast enough to present that 40 FPS output correctly.

What happens in handheld mode
Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS is also unavailable in handheld play, but portable users still get the 40 FPS Performance preset at 1080p. Blizzard does not list the external 120Hz display requirement for handheld mode, because you are using the Switch 2’s built-in screen rather than a television or monitor.
The useful part is that you do not sacrifice the stated 1080p resolution to move from 30 to 40 FPS in handheld mode. Both Quality and Performance are listed at 1080p there, so the frame-rate increase is the obvious starting point for players who care most about responsive combat on the go.
Is 40 FPS enough for Diablo IV?
Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS would obviously provide lower frame time again, but 40 FPS is not simply “30 with a tiny bump.” Moving from 30 to 40 reduces the time between frames from roughly 33.3 milliseconds to 25 milliseconds. That difference can be visible in camera movement, dodging and busy combat even though it does not reach the 16.7 millisecond frame time of 60 FPS.
Whether that is enough comes down to what you are used to. If you already play Diablo IV at 60 FPS or higher and find 30 FPS uncomfortable, the Switch 2 version remains a compromise. If the attraction is native portable Diablo IV and 40 FPS feels acceptable, Performance Mode is clearly the setting to try first.
Could Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS arrive later?
Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS has not been announced as a future mode, so it would be wrong to present 60 FPS as something Blizzard is planning. Console games can receive later optimisation updates, but there is no official commitment here. Buy the port for the settings it has now, not for a theoretical patch.
The launch FAQ is unusually specific about both presets, which suggests Blizzard wants buyers to know exactly what the machine is targeting. If those values change in a later update, that will be worth covering separately rather than treating an unannounced upgrade as inevitable.
Diablo 4 Switch 2 60 FPS is therefore a firm no at launch. The fastest official mode is 1080p/40, available in handheld and in docked play on a 120Hz-capable display. If 60 FPS is non-negotiable for you, this is the key detail to know before buying.
