Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled does not always mean your settings are broken. EA explicitly says the REDSEC feature may be switched on or off during Battlefield Labs in Live testing while the team applies fixes and improvements.
That makes Proximity Chat different from a fully settled permanent menu feature. It can disappear temporarily at the service level even when you did nothing to disable it.

Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled: why it happens
EA is testing audio range, clarity, moderation tools and the gameplay impact of nearby voice chat. If live data exposes a problem, the studio may temporarily turn the feature off while it works on a fix.
The September 15 launch notes explicitly warn players that this can happen during testing.
How to tell Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled from a local setting
First check the quick voice controls below the Commo Rose. If the Proximity Chat toggle exists and is simply off, turn it back on.
If the option itself has vanished and other players are reporting the same thing, a Battlefield Labs shutdown is more likely than a local preference problem.
Restart before changing account settings
If the control should be live but does not appear, restart Battlefield 6 and join a fresh REDSEC Battle Royale session. That clears a stale client state without touching account or platform settings.
Do not unlink your EA account or reinstall the whole game for a temporary Labs toggle.
Proximity Chat is currently REDSEC-first
The live September rollout is focused on Battle Royale in REDSEC, with broader Multiplayer support planned later. Looking for the control in an unsupported mode can therefore look like Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled even when the feature is working elsewhere.
Check the active playlist before troubleshooting.
EA can tune the feature without warning
Because this is live testing, behaviour such as range, clarity and available controls may change between sessions. EA is using player feedback and live-game data before expanding the system.
That is the practical reason a setting can appear less stable than an established voice-chat option.
What to do when it comes back
When Proximity Chat returns, verify your global toggle and preferred voice channel before the next match. Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled at the service level does not guarantee your local preference will be exactly where you left it.
Use the scoreboard tools to mute, report or block individual speakers rather than turning the whole feature off if only one player is causing the problem.
Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled can change between matches
Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled at service level can look inconsistent because Labs testing is not guaranteed to remain on continuously. EA can apply a change, restart the feature later and continue gathering data.
That means one REDSEC session having voice chat does not prove the next session will expose the same control while testing is active.
Do not troubleshoot an unsupported playlist
Proximity Chat launched first in REDSEC Battle Royale, with regular Multiplayer planned for later. If you move into a mode where the Labs feature is not active, the missing toggle is not a fault.
Battlefield 6 Proximity Chat Disabled searches should therefore start with playlist support before headset drivers, NAT settings or account repairs.
Check EA communications during outages
When many players lose the option at the same time, official Battlefield communications and the current update notes are more useful than repeatedly reinstalling. A server-side switch cannot be fixed from your audio menu.
Only return to local troubleshooting when the feature is supposed to be active for the playlist and your client alone cannot access it.
