FSR SDK 2.4 arrived on October 28, 2026, bringing updated machine-learning upscaling, Vulkan support and expanded Radeon and Ryzen compatibility. The main upscaler is AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1.2, accompanied by FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2, a new swapchain implementation and improved ray denoising.

FSR SDK 2.4 is the toolkit game developers use to add these features. Players get the results through compatible games, and in certain DirectX 12 titles through eligible Radeon driver upgrades. The biggest changes affect RX 6000 owners, supported Ryzen integrated graphics and Vulkan games receiving the new SDK.

The release includes FSR Upscaling 4.1.2, FSR Frame Generation 4.0.2 and Frame Generation Swapchain 4.0.0. Analytical FSR Upscaling is version 3.1.6, analytical Frame Generation is 3.1.6 and analytical Swapchain Frame Generation is 3.1.7. AMD also ships Ray Regeneration 1.2.1 and Radiance Caching 0.9.0 as a technical preview.

Upscaling rebuilds rendered images from fewer pixels; frame generation adds intermediate display frames. The swapchain handles presentation timing. Ray Regeneration processes ray-traced lighting noise, while Radiance Caching is AMD’s preview lighting feature. A game can include the parts relevant to its renderer.

FSR SDK 2.4 GPU and Ryzen processor support

FSR SDK 2.4 expands ML upscaling to Radeon RX 6000 Series discrete cards using the full INT8 model. RX 7000 already had FSR 4.1 from June and continues with full INT8, while RX 9000 uses FP8. Ryzen AI Max 300 and 400 now receive full INT8 support, while Ryzen AI 9 300 and 400 and select Ryzen Z2 chips receive a smaller model.

Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A use the lightweight model. AMD says it is less than half the size of full INT8 and selects the appropriate model automatically according to hardware. That matters for handhelds sharing memory between the CPU and graphics.

Vulkan integration in FSR SDK 2.4

The new release adds Vulkan 1.2 support for ML upscaling and frame generation, along with analytical effects. Developers using Vulkan can now integrate the appropriate signed effect DLLs and the Vulkan loader. The Vulkan path broadly matches DirectX 12 for those effects, with Intel PresentMon reporting limited to DirectX 12.

For Vulkan games, developers must add SDK 2.4’s Vulkan effects to offer ML upscaling. The driver upgrade path used by eligible existing DirectX 12 FSR 3.1 integrations does not apply to older Vulkan implementations. Games built with the new Vulkan effects can receive later supported driver versions. Ray Regeneration and Radiance Caching remain DirectX 12 only.

Frame generation and driver-assisted pacing

Frame Generation 4.0.2 brings Vulkan support and fixes validation and swapchain safety issues. The ML version runs on RX 9000 or newer with Windows 11. On older compatible hardware, the SDK offers analytical FSR frame generation instead. The RX 6000 upscaler extension is a separate change.

Swapchain 4.0.0 also adds Driver-Assisted Frame Pacing on eligible RX 9000 GPUs running Adrenalin 26.10.1 or newer. AMD requires a compatible fullscreen presentation path, a supported frame generation dispatch and suitable display settings. Windows 11 with hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is the validated configuration. If the conditions are unmet, the existing pacing method remains in use.

Ray Regeneration and SDK loading changes

Ray Regeneration 1.2.1 adds standalone ambient-occlusion and specular-occlusion denoising and fixes GPU-memory reporting queries. Radiance Caching stays at version 0.9.0 as a technical preview. Both are DirectX 12 effects for newer supported GPUs.

The SDK also changes how it finds signed effect DLLs. The loader can search alongside itself after checking already-loaded modules and the application folder. Shader blob decompression has been added, presently used for Vulkan, alongside improvements in SDK-driver communication and effect version selection. Developers can pin a version or allow a newer supported driver implementation.

FSR SDK 2.4 and the Unreal Engine plugin

The Unreal Engine plugin had not yet moved to the newest versions when FSR SDK 2.4 launched. AMD lists Upscaling 4.1.1 and Frame Generation 4.0.1 for the current plugin, with upgrades to 4.1.2 and 4.0.2 planned. A game using that plugin should not be labelled 4.1.2 merely because a newer SDK exists.

For players, the process is simple: update the game and install the graphics driver intended for the computer. Owners of gaming handhelds should use their manufacturer’s driver updates. There is no need to download the developer SDK to change a game’s graphics settings.
