Modern Warfare 4 Possession: Halloween Rules and Loadout Swaps

Modern Warfare 4 Possession went live on October 29 as a Halloween Multiplayer party mode. When you eliminate an opponent, you instantly move into their location and inherit their loadout. Every successful kill changes your position and equipment, so the enemy you choose to shoot can determine where your next fight begins.

Modern Warfare 4 Possession lets a kill become a quick route onto an objective. An opponent holding a Hardpoint can carry you straight into the fight, but you’ll arrive with their loadout and need to survive whoever is nearby. The right target matters as much as the shot.

After eliminating another player, you possess them. Your character moves to the location they occupied at the moment of the elimination and you take their current loadout. This isn’t a selectable teleport that you save for later: the move is triggered by the kill itself.

A kill can move you from one side of the map to another, completely changing your next engagement. Check the weapon and ammo displayed after each transfer; your starting class isn’t something you can rely on keeping.

Use a kill to reach the Hardpoint

In Modern Warfare 4 Possession, find an opponent standing inside or close to the Hardpoint. When you eliminate them, the forced move can put you directly where they were defending, bypassing part of the usual run toward the objective. This can help contest a point in the final seconds of a fight.

Look at the defender’s surroundings before taking the shot. Someone standing alone near cover is a safer destination than a player in the middle of three teammates. After the transfer, move immediately if your new position is exposed.

Modern Warfare 4 Possession: What happens to your weapons?

You take the defeated opponent’s loadout. A rifle can become a shotgun, a long-range optic can disappear, and your equipment can change. The mode does not preserve the class you selected at the beginning of the match after you successfully eliminate someone.

When you arrive, identify the current weapon and ammunition before taking the next gunfight. If you inherited a close-range setup, don’t challenge a distant sniper from an open lane. If you inherited a rifle, use the added range instead of charging into a tight corridor.

Choose a safer landing spot

To win Modern Warfare 4 Possession, choose targets based on position as well as the chance of getting a kill. A defender on the edge of a bombsite may offer a better landing spot than someone standing in the centre of the enemy team. The enemy’s equipment also determines the loadout you’ll inherit after the transfer.

After the transfer, orient the camera and get moving. Take cover, see what weapon you’ve inherited and decide whether to push or defend the objective. Standing still to study the new loadout is a quick way to lose the advantage.

Possession versus Infected

Infected begins with one randomly chosen Infected player. Each eliminated Survivor joins the growing infected team. That mode has fixed equipment: the Infected use the FSS Carbon Edge knife and Throwing Knife, while Survivors use a Rezi 12 shotgun with explosive slugs and defensive items.

Unlike Modern Warfare 4 Possession, Infected is a survival mode with growing teams and set classes. Infected is scheduled for October 30. Our Infected guide explains both teams’ weapons, while Halloween modes has the release dates.

Where to find the Halloween playlist

Modern Warfare 4 Possession appeared in the active Multiplayer playlist on October 29. Make sure Modern Warfare 4 is updated and select the Halloween party mode from the current playlist selection. It’s a pre-season addition, not something you need to unlock through the Season 1 Battle Pass.

The October 29 patch also increased Multiplayer XP and fixed several DMZ bugs. Read our patch notes for those changes. Grind, Drop Zone and Gauntlet 1v1 arrive with Season 1 on November 6.
