The First Descendant Superconductive Cooling Units: Best Farming Methods After 1.4.6

Official comparison of Onslaught Stage 4 and 5 event menus

Superconductive Cooling Units are the resource you need when readjusting Ancestors Module options in The First Descendant. If you keep rerolling module stats, even a healthy stockpile can disappear quickly. Fortunately, the October 2026 reward tables give players several routes: Onslaught Stage 5, Karel’s Mothership, weekly Onslaught bonuses and Trials rounds.

For Superconductive Cooling Units, the best activity depends on whether you want the largest amount per completed mission or a short, repeatable farm. Nexon’s Update 1.4.5 lists 367 from an Onslaught Stage 5 completion, while the updated Karel’s Mothership rewards include 146 on Normal and 194 on Hard. Here’s how those compare and when the extra weekly bonuses make a difference.

Best places to farm Superconductive Cooling Units

The clearest published sources for Superconductive Cooling Units are the mission-completion rewards in Onslaught and Karel’s Mothership. Trials also gives units for each successfully completed round, so it’s useful when you want to progress through Variable Codes and receive other rewards at the same time.

ActivityPublished cooling unit amountHow it is awarded
Onslaught Stage 5367Mission completion
Karel’s Mothership (Hard)194Mission completion
Karel’s Mothership (Normal)146Mission completion
Onslaught weekly bonus130Eligible weekly bonus claim, separate from ordinary completion
Trials rounds 1–410 per roundEach round completed

This comparison covers published reward amounts, not a universal hourly farming ranking. Onslaught Stage 5 gives the most Superconductive Cooling Units per normal completion among these listed activities, but a harder run may take longer or be less reliable for your squad. Compare successful clear times with the rewards rather than assuming that the highest single number is always the fastest farm.

How to farm 367 cooling units in Onslaught Stage 5

Stage 5 is the most substantial new Superconductive Cooling Units completion source confirmed in the October update. Nexon lists 367 as the normal Stage 5 mission-completion amount, alongside Gold, Kuiper, weapon loot chances and Ancestors Module rewards. You need to complete Onslaught Stage 4 once before Stage 5 unlocks.

Start Stage 5 through Tactical Transport Control in Albion or the World Map. Public matchmaking requires 93,300 Arche Activity, while private entry is permitted below that number. There are six waves and a final Colossus, which makes the clear more demanding than a quick field mission. Our Onslaught Stage 5 unlock and rewards guide explains the full activity.

The defence mechanics matter because an incomplete run won’t give you the advertised completion reward. Tyrants advance toward the Energy Concentration Point and cost the team 10% Energy if they enter. Barricades can block them, and defeating a Tyrant destroys nearby normal and elite enemies. When farming Superconductive Cooling Units, defending the point is part of the resource route, not a distraction from collecting loot.

How the extra 130-unit Onslaught weekly bonus works

Onslaught has a separate weekly bonus that can award 130 Superconductive Cooling Units on an eligible clear. The established weekly system allows up to four bonus claims, equivalent to 520 additional units across four eligible claims. Update 1.4.5 added Stage 5 to the existing weekly content without changing those weekly reward rules.

This is particularly attractive early in your farming week because the bonus is on top of the normal mission-completion reward structure. However, don’t multiply 130 by every unlimited run: the weekly claims are limited. Check your remaining weekly Onslaught bonuses before deciding how much time to devote to Stage 5.

The bonus can also supply an Ancestors Module Loot III with a guaranteed option tier. Stage 5 guarantees at least one Transcendent-tier option in that weekly Ancestors Module reward, giving you another reason to run it alongside Superconductive Cooling Units farming. Our Ancestors Module Fragments guide and free Ancestors Module readjustment guide help explain the related progression options.

Karel’s Mothership Normal versus Hard

If Stage 5 isn’t the best fit for your gear or squad, Karel’s Mothership is another confirmed source of Superconductive Cooling Units. After the September 1.4.2 reward adjustments, its published completion amounts are 146 on Normal and 194 on Hard. Those amounts differ from its separate chance-based Commander loot, so don’t confuse a mission-completion figure with a particular rare Commander drop.

Hard is stronger per completion, but Normal may be preferable if you can finish it more reliably. The point is to keep successfully collecting resources, especially when your current build struggles with later encounter mechanics. Mothership can also award Trigger Modules and other upgrades, which makes it attractive for a player working on several systems at once.

For one of those additional farming goals, the Prepping in the Dark guide explains the current module effect. The Transcendent Weapon rotation boost guide covers a separate daily bonus that can influence which content you want to play, but that bonus is not an announced multiplier to cooling unit drops.

Can you earn Superconductive Cooling Units from Trials?

Yes. The original Trials reward table gives 10 Superconductive Cooling Units per completed round across the first four listed rounds. Trials offers a much smaller immediate amount than Stage 5, but the same rounds can give Merit Tokens and a chance at Transcendent Weapon Loot. If you’re playing Trials anyway, those units add up without needing a separate activity.

Trials has two rotating dungeons: Protocol 001 with the Order of Truth and Protocol 002 with the Legion of Immortality. The dungeon changes daily at 00:00 PDT, and both versions use the same entry requirements and rewards. Our Trials Protocol 002 guide explains the rotation, while the Monster Hunter weapon guide offers another possible equipment goal for higher-level content.

What are cooling units used for?

Superconductive Cooling Units are used for Ancestors Module option readjustment, which lets you refine the stats on an existing module. Ancestors Modules have four randomly rolled stats, and players who are trying to improve those rolls can spend the resource repeatedly. This is why a farm that also provides Ancestors Module Loot can be especially convenient: you can work on both obtaining modules and refining the ones worth keeping.

If you don’t yet have a module you intend to improve, it may be worth collecting suitable options first rather than burning through Superconductive Cooling Units on a temporary piece. Our Cradle of Evolution reward guide covers another activity with module and other progression rewards, though its reward structure is separate from Onslaught’s 367-unit completion figure.

Which cooling unit farming route should you choose?

Start with eligible Onslaught weekly bonuses if you can clear the content, then compare your typical Stage 5 completion speed with Karel’s Mothership. Stage 5’s 367 units per completion make it a strong candidate for capable squads. Mothership Normal or Hard can be a better use of time when they’re easier for your character to clear consistently.

Trials is more of a combined progression route than a dedicated Superconductive Cooling Units farm because each round awards only ten in the published table. Whichever activity you choose, check the current mission reward screen, keep weekly bonuses separate from ordinary completion amounts and plan around successful repeatable clears rather than theoretical maximum loot.
