Trigger Module Loot L is one of the places to look for Prepping in the Dark in The First Descendant. Nexon added the module to this loot pool in Update 1.4.5 and increased the chance of obtaining the loot in both Cradle of Evolution and Karel’s Mothership. The biggest listed chance is in Karel’s Mothership on Hard difficulty, at 64.7% on mission completion.
That headline percentage needs one explanation before you start farming: it is the chance to receive Trigger Module Loot L, not a 64.7% chance to receive Prepping in the Dark itself. The pool contains four module types after the October update. Here’s where to farm, how the rates compare and which alternative rewards are worth checking.
Where to farm Trigger Module Loot L
The official October 15 notes identify three mission-completion sources for Trigger Module Loot L. Karel’s Mothership Hard has the highest published acquisition chance, followed by Karel’s Mothership Normal and then Cradle of Evolution. These are all mission-completion rates, so defeating a particular enemy on its own is not the same thing as earning a box at the end.
| Mission | Chance before Update 1.4.5 | Current listed chance |
|---|---|---|
| Karel’s Mothership (Hard) | 48.5% | 64.7% |
| Karel’s Mothership (Normal) | 36.4% | 48.5% |
| Cradle of Evolution | 8.6% | 11.5% |
For Trigger Module Loot L specifically, Mothership Hard offers the best published percentage per completion. If Hard takes your team much longer than Normal, compare the number of successful clears you can complete in the same session. The higher 64.7% chance helps only when you finish the mission.

Can Trigger Module Loot L give Prepping in the Dark?
Yes. Trigger Module Loot L gained Prepping in the Dark when Update 1.4.5 increased its contents from three types to four. This is why older farming information can be misleading: a guide written before October 15 may show a different pool and lower reward chances. If you’re hunting the new module, use the updated table above.
Prepping in the Dark is built around a two-step sequence. Dealing damage with a Ground DoT skill grants Gap; using a Concealment skill while Gap is active then grants Ambush Setup, which affects Skill 4 and Toxic Skill Power. Our Prepping in the Dark module guide explains the sequence in detail. You can also review the Freyna October rework for the broader Toxic and concealment changes.
Patch 1.4.6 on October 22 removed the module’s 18-second cooldown, changing it to 0 seconds. The same patch also corrected several issues involving its Toxic Skill Power information and icon display. That makes a pre-1.4.6 build demonstration a poor reference for current cooldown behaviour, even if its original farming directions were right.
Is the drop rate for Prepping in the Dark 64.7%?
No. The 64.7% number is the mission-completion chance to receive Trigger Module Loot L from Karel’s Mothership Hard. The loot contains four types of Trigger Module. Nexon does not state a separate probability for each individual module in this table, so the odds of receiving the exact one you need cannot be calculated reliably from 64.7% alone.
Dividing 64.7% by four would only work if the four module types were equally weighted. Nexon’s reward table doesn’t establish those individual odds. The same applies to the 48.5% Normal and 11.5% Cradle rates. Treat the table as a comparison of routes to the loot, not an exact promise about what will be inside.
Cradle of Evolution or Karel’s Mothership: which should you farm?
For a player who can clear both Mothership difficulties without trouble, Hard is the obvious starting point because it offers the strongest published Trigger Module Loot L chance per run. Normal has a lower chance but may be preferable if your current build handles it much more comfortably. The best route in practice is the one that combines a realistic clear rate with the listed completion chance.
Cradle of Evolution has the lowest percentage for this particular loot, but it can make sense if you’re already working towards other Cradle rewards. Our Cradle of Evolution unlock guide covers access, while the Cradle mechanics guide explains its encounter structure. The Cradle rewards breakdown is useful when deciding whether the additional loot makes repeated runs worthwhile.
Update 1.4.6 also adjusted Cradle of Evolution enemy spawns and increased the Phase-Tuned Crystals awarded for defeating a Commander. Those changes improve the appeal of Cradle for players farming several materials at once, although they don’t change the published 11.5% Trigger Module Loot L rate.

Other ways to get the new Trigger Module
The two missions aren’t the entire picture. The October update also added the new Trigger Module to rewards associated with the Axion Plains Wall Crasher. Nexon increased that encounter’s listed pool from 41 Trigger Module types to 42, including the new addition. Its guaranteed rewards cover five of those 42 types, but that’s not a guarantee of Prepping in the Dark specifically.
Another alternative is the Trigger Module Selection Box J, which the patch introduced with the earlier 41 types plus the new one. Nexon lists several sources for Box J, including Axion Plains, Wall Crasher, selected Void Vessel and Infiltration content, Bounty Operations, Karel’s Mothership and Cradle of Evolution. This is a different reward route from rolling Trigger Module Loot L; check which item your chosen activity awards before farming.
While browsing content bonuses, be careful not to confuse the daily Transcendent Weapon rotation boost with a confirmed increase to Trigger Module Loot L. Nexon’s rotational boost announcement is about Transcendent Weapon acquisition chances, so it doesn’t establish a new Trigger Module rate.
Fast farming checklist for Trigger Module Loot L
Before committing to a longer farming session, choose a mission your group can complete reliably, check its listed rate, and make sure you are looking at the reward for completing the run. If you’re targeting Prepping in the Dark, remember that a successful Trigger Module Loot L drop can still contain one of the other module types. Mothership Hard is a strong first choice when your team can finish it consistently, but you may need several runs to get the particular module you want.
If your main goal is several progression materials rather than one Trigger Module, Cradle of Evolution can be a more appealing combined farm after the October 22 reward improvements. If you’re focused exclusively on the new module, the published per-completion figures give Mothership Hard the strongest starting case.
