Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige: Attachment Resets and Pyroclast Camos

Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige becomes available when you’ve fully levelled a weapon. Choosing it resets that gun to Level 1 and relocks its standard attachments, including shared attachments. It does not remove previously unlocked Apex Attachments, Weapon Blueprint Attachments or cosmetic customisation. The reset begins a camo progression path with four Pyroclast rewards.

Player-rank Prestige and Weapon Prestige are separate decisions. If the same sight works on your other guns but has become locked on the one you just prestiged, that’s expected. The table below shows what you’ll keep, followed by the exact levels for each Pyroclast camo.

How to unlock Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige

Level the weapon by using it in Multiplayer or DMZ, then open Create-a-Class → your weapon → Progression. At its maximum level, the option to enter Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige becomes available. You can choose it then or keep the gun at max level with its attachments intact. There’s no requirement to prestige just to keep playing that weapon.

Player Prestige is a separate rank system, with Classic and Regular paths. Weapon Prestige changes only the gun you select. Our player Prestige guide covers the rank-level rewards.

What resets and what stays unlocked?

For Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige, the main trade-off is having to unlock normal attachments again on the selected gun. Previously unlocked shared sights and grips still work on compatible non-prestiged guns. A saved build can’t bypass the reset, though Apex and Blueprint attachments that you’ve earned are specifically exempt.

All four Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige Pyroclast camos

The Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige camo track has four milestones. The first is awarded when you enter Prestige 1; the second comes at the end of that track. After that, the weapon moves into Master progression for the final two versions.

CamoHow to unlock
PyroclastEnter Weapon Prestige 1, Level 1
Pyroclast TerminusReach Weapon Prestige 1’s maximum level
Pyroclast ScatterReach Weapon Prestige Master Level 150
Pyroclast CascadeReach Weapon Prestige Master Level 250

Pyroclast unlocks at Prestige 1 Level 1. Pyroclast Terminus follows when you reach that track’s maximum level, while Pyroclast Scatter and Cascade require Weapon Prestige Master Levels 150 and 250 respectively. The latter are longer-term rewards, not challenges you can complete during the first reset.

Does Weapon Prestige Master reset your gun again?

No. When you finish the first Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige track, the gun automatically enters Weapon Prestige Master. Its level doesn’t reset back to 1 at that point, and the attachments you’ve rebuilt remain unlocked. Continue gaining Weapon XP to reach Master Level 150 for Scatter and 250 for Cascade.

You’ll also get a Weapon Prestige Master icon for Gunsmith and Killcams. The key benefit is that this transition doesn’t put you through another attachment reset. You can keep using the standard parts you’ve earned back during Prestige 1.

October 24 and 25 fixes affecting Weapon Prestige

The October 24 update fixed an issue where a weapon’s attachments did not automatically reset when Prestiging through Gunsmith. It also clarified that Weapon Prestige and Player Prestige cannot be used while searching for a match. Finish or cancel matchmaking before trying the reset again. On October 25, a separate correction ensured that player Prestige properly clears Loadouts; it doesn’t change the Weapon Prestige exceptions listed above.

Why are shared attachments missing after Prestige?

After Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige, open the affected gun’s Progression screen to see when each regular attachment can be earned again. A saved loadout can’t override the new locks. Shared attachments still work on compatible weapons that haven’t been prestiged.

Your previously earned Apex Attachment and Weapon Blueprint Attachments remain available on that gun. You can keep using them while rebuilding the rest.

Is Weapon Prestige worth it?

The appeal of Modern Warfare 4 Weapon Prestige is the Pyroclast camo set and its long-term levelling challenge. If you rely on a complete set of ordinary attachments for your current loadout, keep that weapon at max level until you’re ready for a reset. The choice is optional, so you can keep the fully levelled weapon until you’re ready to restart its regular attachment progression.

Once you’ve prestiged, keep using the weapon in Multiplayer or DMZ to earn Weapon XP, and use Double Weapon XP Tokens when available. The Firing Range lets you test the parts you’ve earned back as the gun levels up.
