Fortnite Chapter 7 Map Evolution: Every Original Season Map

Fortnite Chapter 7 map evolution is still a work in progress inside Fortnite itself, but its history is already striking. Chapter 7 arrived with a new island in late 2025. Showdown introduced the Foundation and Ice King’s rivalry, Runners practically rebuilt the place into Shattered Coast, and Override added new locations and server-wide rule changes. You can see the terrain and named destinations changing across the four season maps below.

The gallery uses genuine snapshots from the opening patch of each season rather than one current map labelled four different ways. Open any box for a full-size picture and compare the island from its Pacific Break debut through the v42.00 Override launch. The later Fortnitemares changes belong to that last season but aren’t all visible in its starting screenshot.

Season 1: Pacific Break (v39.00)

A new island with a west-coast feel. Chapter 7 opened with a completely fresh island, replacing the Chapter 6 landscape. The launch map introduced its own towns, roads and coastal areas, and players had to learn new drops rather than relying on the established routes through Oninoshima.

This picture captures the original Chapter 7 geography before the Ice King storyline began.

Season 2: Showdown (v40.00)

The Foundation and Ice King face off. Showdown arrived on 19 March 2026, bringing New Sanctuary, Frigid Fortress and Dark Dominion into the spotlight. Frigid Fortress made the snowy side of the map an important destination, while the season’s conflict between Team Foundation and Team Ice King changed where players wanted to land.

The original launch map shows the Season 2 layout; later events and the outcome of the rivalry happened after this snapshot.

Season 3: Runners (v41.00)

The Shattered Coast rebuild. Season 3 did far more than swap a few named places. The Shattered event led to a reassembled island called Shattered Coast, where much of the geography and many familiar locations were remixed. The Battlewood area became The Battlewoods; players also found locations such as Heatwave Harbor, Cluster Coast and Sunken Shores. It felt almost like learning a new chapter’s island.

Runners launched on 6 June 2026. This map shows that substantial redesign at v41.00.

Season 4: Override (v42.00)

New rules and Fortnitemares changes. Override launched on 20 August 2026 with new places and ways to reshape a match. Green Hill Zone, Reality’s Reign and Stone Sanctum became destinations, while Override Consoles made control of the map part of the action. The later Fortnitemares updates gave the island still more seasonal changes.

The map in this box is the initial v42.00 version, not every mid-season Halloween change. For those, use the linked current-season articles.

How Chapter 7 went from Pacific Break to the Shattered Coast

The first two seasons developed one island. Pacific Break gave the chapter its original terrain and landmarks; Showdown changed key destinations as the Foundation and Ice King became rivals. Comparing v39.00 with v40.00 is a good way to see those alterations without confusing them with the much bigger shift that arrived later.

Runners is the turning point in Fortnite Chapter 7 map evolution. Instead of the usual seasonal additions, Epic released the Shattered Coast, a reassembled island with remixed locations and reorganised geography. For players used to landing at the same POI every match, this was a much bigger adjustment than a new building or a patch of snow.

Override then built on the newer Shattered Coast layout. Reality’s Reign, Stone Sanctum and Green Hill Zone brought their own landing choices, while Override Consoles gave squads something worth controlling after they landed. Later updates in the season changed locations again, particularly around Fortnitemares.

Fortnite Chapter 7 map evolution: The Shattered Coast explained

Shattered Coast was described by Epic as a new map, though it remixed recognisable locations from the earlier Chapter 7 island. The Battlewoods is a particularly clear example: an area associated with Battlewood returned with a wooded look and rearranged surroundings. Other destinations moved or appeared in new forms.

That makes the Season 3 map one of the best images for understanding Fortnite Chapter 7 map evolution. Put the v40.00 and v41.00 maps side by side and the difference is easy to see. It wasn’t simply a reskin of Showdown.

Fortnite Chapter 7 map evolution continued after each opening screenshot, so the numbered version below a map is the best guide to which stage of the island it depicts.

Which Chapter 7 map should you use for current locations?

If you’re looking for active landing spots in October 2026, the historical pictures here aren’t a substitute for a current guide. Season 4’s starting map is labelled v42.00, but later patches, Fortnitemares and limited-time changes can alter specific locations.

Use our Chapter 7 Season 4 map changes guide, Fortnitemares map changes or Chapter 7 guide for the newer developments. The purpose of this Fortnite Chapter 7 map evolution collection is to preserve the map as it stood when each season began.
