Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 map shows showdown, frigid fortress and new sanctuary in the original Chapter 7 Battle Royale island timeline. Chapter 7 Season 2, Showdown, centred on the rivalry between the Foundation and the Ice King. The island gained a new set of landmarks that made the conflict visible on the map, with snowy and faction-associated destinations becoming important landing spots.
The map below is from update v40.00, with a before-and-after comparison further down the page. The version number is important because Fortnite changes its island within seasons, sometimes adding locations weeks after the launch image was recorded.

New Sanctuary, Frigid Fortress and Dark Dominion were key named locations. Frigid Fortress represented the Ice King’s influence, while New Sanctuary connected to the Foundation and the Seven. Dark Dominion gave the map another distinctive area tied to the season’s rivalry.
The snowy area and faction landmarks did more than add new names. Players could choose to land near one side of the conflict or explore the map’s older regions, which still provided continuity with Pacific Break.
What changed on the island for Season 2?
Season 1 established the new Chapter 7 island. Season 2 developed it around the clash between the Foundation and the Ice King, making v40.00 an important checkpoint before the larger rebuilding of the island in Season 3.
This picture shows the season at v40.00. Later changes connected with Showdown happened after launch, so screenshots from different points in the season can look different.

The Shattered event subsequently led into Runners and a reassembled island known as Shattered Coast. That was a much bigger geographical change than simply adding the Showdown landmarks.
This picture shows the season at v40.00. Later changes connected with Showdown happened after launch, so screenshots from different points in the season can look different. The chapter’s island history becomes clearer when these snapshots are kept in chronological order rather than treating the whole season as one fixed version of the map.
How Showdown changed landing choices
The Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 map gave the rivalry between the Foundation and the Ice King a physical presence. New Sanctuary and Frigid Fortress were particularly significant because they gave both sides of that story identifiable places on the island. Players could choose a landing area associated with the conflict rather than merely following it through quests.
