Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits are used to obtain animals and support conservation-focused progression, rather than pay the zoo’s day-to-day bills. You can build your balance by releasing eligible animals, trading in Franchise and completing suitable conservation activities.
If your balance suddenly dropped into a huge negative figure, that’s a separate problem from earning credits slowly. Frontier fixed that bug in Update 1.0.8 on 29 October. The guide below covers both ordinary earning methods and what to check if your balance has been affected.
Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits: Negative Balance Fix in Update 1.0.8

Frontier’s 29 October patch fixed a bug that left some players with an enormous negative Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits balance. The developer identified affected accounts and reset those balances to 10,000 Conservation Credits.
The 10,000-credit reset is for affected accounts, not a giveaway or a new way to farm credits. If your balance is still wrong after updating, record the amount and report it through Frontier’s Issue Tracker. The patch does not promise a manual claim button or a universal payout.
Franchise players who lost a release group because a crash or disconnect interrupted delivery to a Wildlife Reserve also received a targeted fix. Frontier says identified affected players will automatically get new replacement animals in their Wildlife Reserves, not a general refund into Animal Trading. See our Update 1.0.8 patch notes and Franchise troubleshooting guide.
How to earn Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits by releasing animals
Animal releases are the clearest way to earn Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits. Look at the animals in your zoo, choose one eligible for release and inspect the displayed reward before confirming. Releasing an animal removes it from your zoo, so make sure you’re not accidentally sending away a breeding animal you still need.
You can Quick Release an eligible animal for credits, or send a suitable Release Group to a Wildlife Reserve. The Wildlife Reserve route works through species research and a valid Release Group. In a suitable reserve, those animals join the ecosystem and their population becomes part of your conservation work. You can earn Credits from releases while also working towards reserve biodiversity.
Release-group requirements differ by species. Some accept an individual animal, while others need a pair or group with acceptable genetic characteristics. If a release option is unavailable, inspect the group’s displayed conditions rather than assuming that every adult of the species qualifies.
Earn Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits with Wildlife Reserves
Wildlife Reserve releases take more preparation than Quick Release, but they also help you build a functioning ecosystem. Start by researching a species at your zoo, preparing a suitable reserve ecosystem and assembling a release group. Reserve suitability matters: an animal that can be released quickly isn’t automatically eligible to live in every reserve. Your zoo needs to provide animals that meet the requirements of the landscape.
Restoring damaged land and building a Research Network are separate pieces of this process. Cleaning up pollution, removing invasive plants and installing observation equipment improve the reserve while your released animals fill ecological roles. That progress can help Franchise Accreditation, unlocking more species you can later trade for.
If you’re still building your first reserve, follow our Wildlife Reserves release guide before moving animals. Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits earned from releases are useful, but the same animals may be needed to satisfy a conservation objective or establish a breeding population.
Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits from conservation projects
Conservation Projects appear through the Planet Hub. Return to the Hub using the globe icon, open the conservation area marked with a leaf, choose a project and read its required resources. Projects can ask for animals, staff or other contributions, and the reward can include Credits, cash or animals.
Once you meet the listed conditions, allocate the required resources and claim the finished project’s reward. This is a different system from merely releasing a random animal. Some projects ask for a particular species or type of support, so choose one you can fulfil without weakening the zoo’s current breeding or staffing.
Before committing animals or staff to a conservation project, check the reward and what it will cost you. A large payout might require animals you planned to breed, trade or release. Completing a more manageable project can help your zoo progress while those other animals mature.
Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits from Franchise trading
Franchise players can put animals on the shared Animal Market in exchange for Conservation Credits. Other players can then buy them. This is not the same as releasing an animal for a fixed in-game reward: a listing needs a buyer, and its likely value depends on the animal, its genetics and demand.
You don’t need to sell every offspring. Keep the breeding adults and any replacements you want, then decide whether an extra animal is worth more to another player or to a reserve release programme. The animal you sell leaves your collection once the trade completes.
If the market looks empty, that may not be a Credits problem. Frontier confirmed that online capacity and animal supply were under strain at launch, then made trading improvements in the October 14 and October 16 updates. You may also have species locked by your Franchise Accreditation tier. Those are two different reasons a desired animal might not appear.
Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits from Community Challenges
Franchise Mode also offers Community Challenges with individual contributions and rewards. Their tasks vary, so open the current challenge and check what counts. Breeding a named animal group or releasing a particular type of species may contribute; the reward screen determines what you’re awarded.
Another small source of Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits is greeting a visiting player avatar when one appears in your Franchise zoo. The amount is modest, so this works as a bonus rather than a complete plan for funding expensive species.
Best early-game Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits route
Start with animals your current Accreditation tier allows, and create enough room to maintain a healthy breeding group. Research the species so you can plan future reserve releases. Keep strong breeding stock; consider quick releasing suitable surplus animals while you build the requirements for a Wildlife Reserve.
As soon as your reserve is prepared, use eligible release groups that help both your conservation balance and the reserve’s ecosystem. Check Conservation Projects in the Hub and contribute to challenges you can complete with animals you already keep. A Franchise market sale is worth considering when you have a genuinely useful excess animal and the online market is working.
Cash and Credits solve different problems. Zoo cash pays for facilities, staff and day-to-day construction, while Credits are central to acquiring animals. If your zoo is losing money, fix those expenses as well; collecting Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits won’t pay your keepers’ wages.
Why are Planet Zoo 2 conservation credits not increasing?
Update 1.0.6 on 23 October also fixed a different bug where Conservation Credits earned from exhibit animals were lost after reloading a save. If that sounds familiar, update the game before testing the same action again, and keep your save intact if the problem persists.
Check whether you actually completed a release or trade, rather than just selecting an animal. A posted Franchise listing isn’t a completed sale until another player buys it. Conservation Projects also require their rewards to be claimed. If you’re using the Animal Market during a server disruption, verify that the transaction completed before trying again.
The payout depends on the animal and the action you choose. Species, genetics and the release or trading conditions can all affect it, so there isn’t a single reliable credit amount for every animal. Open the specific release or sale panel for the reward you can actually receive.
