Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves: How to Release Animals into the Wild

Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves

Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves are natural conservation areas where animals from your zoo can live in a restored ecosystem. Unlike a normal habitat, a reserve is designed for rewilding: you release suitable animals, maintain their populations and observe them with monitoring equipment. The game includes six reserves across Africa, Europe and Asia.

To release animals into Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves, you need sufficient Species Research, a suitable ecosystem and a release group that meets the species’ requirements. Those conditions vary by animal: some need one individual, while others need several animals and suitable genetics. This guide covers the full process, the reserve equipment and what to check when a release is blocked.

Open Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves from the Planet Hub, which manages your zoo and reserve network. Career Mode introduces the conservation system through its scenarios; Franchise Accreditation eventually requires three separate reserves with three Biodiversity Stars each. A Wildlife Reserve has ecosystems and research equipment rather than the normal array of visitor-facing shops.

Each Wildlife Reserve accepts a specific range of species based on its ecosystem. An animal can thrive in your zoo without being eligible for release to every reserve. Check the in-game list for the selected reserve before breeding a large release group, because a suitable biome is required.

How to release animals into Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves

  1. Research your species using a vet and an operating Research Centre until its release-group ability unlocks.
  2. Open the conservation project and read the eligible species, reserve and release requirements.
  3. Choose a compatible Wildlife Reserve. Not every animal species can be released to every landscape.
  4. Restore the ecosystem: remove pollution and invasive plants, then provide correct water, terrain and vegetation.
  5. Create a Release Group with the right population count and sex mix for that species.
  6. Check the selected animals’ fertility, longevity, health and genetic diversity requirements.
  7. Complete the eligible group transfer to the Wildlife Reserve and confirm the release.
  8. Set up a Research Outpost and monitoring equipment to study the released population.

For Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves, Species Research performed by vets unlocks release-group access. The Wildlife Reserve project and group requirements are shown by the game’s interface. For some species you need a breeding pair, while others require a different combination. A group can be ineligible because of age, low fertility or genetic diversity even when all the animals are healthy.

Each of the Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves starts with land in need of ecological restoration. Remove invasive plants and pollution and provide the correct balance of vegetation, terrain and water. Once released, different animals serve roles in the ecosystem, from browsing and grazing to predation. Diverse, healthy populations improve Biodiversity Rating.

Franchise requires three Biodiversity Stars at each qualifying Wildlife Reserve for the later Accreditation tiers. Increasing one reserve from three to five stars doesn’t count as creating another qualifying reserve. It’s the number of distinct reserves meeting the requirement that matters.

A Research Outpost provides a vehicle for travelling across a Wildlife Reserve. You can also walk, find animals with the compass and photograph behaviour without disturbing them. Monitoring equipment supplies research information and helps develop the reserve’s research network.

In Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves, successful conservation can provide Conservation Credits, research benefits and Biodiversity Rating progress. The exact reward from an individual release varies by conservation project and species; there is no verified flat credit payout to claim for every release. Better research also feeds useful information back to the animals you care for in zoos.

Why a Wildlife Reserve release is not working

SymptomLikely requirement to check
Species unavailableSelected reserve does not support that species
Release group lockedInsufficient Species Research
Group marked invalidNumber of animals, age or sex combination
Genetic requirement failedFertility, longevity or genetic diversity
Reserve not suitableWater, vegetation, terrain and ecological preparation

If a release fails in Planet Zoo 2 Wildlife Reserves, check the exact project and group panels. Don’t assume that every animal needs two adults or that any healthy individual can be transferred. Requirements are species-specific, so the correct solution depends on the particular group shown in the game.

Our Franchise Accreditation guide shows how reserves unlock more species and management features. For animal care ahead of a release, see Animal Welfare.
