ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader: How to Unlock It

ACE COMBAT 8 Aircraft List

ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader is one of the more confusing original aircraft to trace through the Campaign Aircraft Tree because its availability depends on another endgame purchase rather than a simple visible branch during the story. Players can reach the end of the campaign with plenty of MRP and still find that the expected Electronic aircraft is not ready to buy. The missing step is easy to overlook if you are treating the post-game roster as a flat shop instead of a progression chain.

The Barricader also has a very different reason to exist from the high-performance Fighters around it. Its electronic-warfare role changes the way a difficult battle can be managed, while its optional weapons still let the aircraft contribute directly against air or surface targets. The first section establishes the verified unlock path without mixing it into those build choices, then the rest of the guide covers the true MRP commitment and when the aircraft is worth using.

ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader is a post-game Aircraft Tree purchase. Complete the campaign, unlock and buy the FA-36 Game, then the EA-36 node becomes the next major aircraft purchase on that branch. The first Barricader costs 750,000 MRP. Because the FA-36 itself costs 750,000 MRP and has its own late-tree prerequisite, the real route is much more expensive than the final Barricader price alone. ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader can be more useful than another Fighter on missions where IEWS changes the pressure on the whole formation.

Plan the chain before spending. A qualifying late-tree aircraft such as the F-22A, F-35C or Su-57 gets you into the post-game original-aircraft layer, the FA-36 Game opens the Barricader route, and the EA-36 purchase finishes it. If any earlier node is missing, 750,000 MRP in the bank will not bypass the prerequisite. ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader sits one step deeper in the post-game route because the FA-36 Game must be purchased before the aircraft becomes available.

How much MRP to budget

From the point where you already own a qualifying late-tree aircraft, buying the FA-36 and then ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader means another 1,500,000 MRP in aircraft purchases before counting any extra weapons or parts. That is a large post-game investment, so it makes sense to combine the grind with S ranks, medals and Assault Record cleanup rather than replaying an easy low-value mission only for currency.

Mission 28 is useful because it has a very dense target field and access to rearming. Use whichever aircraft clears it comfortably, bank the reward, then buy the branch in order. Do not sell yourself on the idea that the Barricader must be the first post-game purchase if another aircraft would make the farming and cleanup process faster. ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader therefore needs more than its listed 750,000 MRP price if the FA-36 is not already in the hangar.

EA-36 weapons and IEWS

The Barricader starts around its integrated electronic-warfare identity, with IEWS as the defining special system. It can also unlock 4AAM for multi-target air combat and XSDB for precise attacks on several surface targets. That combination is why ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader remains useful outside a narrow support scenario: one loadout can contribute to a broad battlefield while still bringing electronic support.

Its role is different from the X-40 and FA-36. Those aircraft are easier to judge by direct destructive performance, while the EA-36 makes more sense when the mission benefits from electronic advantages or when you want a support-flavoured aircraft that can still kill efficiently. Build around the objective rather than expecting the Electronic Warfare label to behave like a conventional Fighter tier. ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader is built around electronic warfare, but 4AAM and XSDB keep it useful when a sortie still demands direct kills.

Best missions for the Barricader

Wide mixed battles are the natural place to experiment with ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader. 4AAM helps when several aircraft arrive at once, while XSDB covers groups of surface targets without forcing repeated low passes. IEWS is the distinctive option when survivability, targeting pressure or enemy systems are creating more trouble than raw damage output.

It is also a useful wingman aircraft once you can afford extra copies, because Joker Flight benefits from capable airframes with complementary roles. Your own parts do not simply transfer to wingmen, so think about what the Barricader contributes as an aircraft rather than assuming the squad will reproduce your exact personal build. ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader is a strong specialist choice for players who value support and control more than the raw all-round performance of the X-40.

EA-36 not appearing in the tree

If the node is absent after the credits, first confirm the FA-36 Game is owned on the same Campaign save. If the FA-36 itself is still locked, solve that prerequisite chain first. Then make sure all connecting nodes are purchased and the MRP balance covers the Barricader. Reopening the Aircraft Tree after a saved campaign clear can also make the endgame branch easier to inspect. ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader troubleshooting should check the FA-36 purchase first, because campaign completion alone does not finish its unlock chain.

ACE COMBAT ONLINE progression does not unlock ACE COMBAT 8 EA-36 Barricader for Campaign. Online aircraft, blueprints and seasonal rewards live in their own progression system. The Barricader covered here is the Campaign Aircraft Tree version, and its parent-child relationship with the FA-36 is the important unlock rule to remember.
