ESO Custodian’s Repository Gryphon Seal: How to Get the Arcanum Seal

ESO Nowhere Vault Secret Objectives

The ESO Custodian’s Repository Gryphon Seal is one of three hidden seals needed to complete the Nowhere Vault’s secret challenge and unlock the Ancient Direnni Quasigriff mount. Although Custodian’s Repository is found in the Arcanum Wing, the item needed to obtain its seal comes from the Lunar Path Wing.

You’ll need to complete three connected puzzles before the secret becomes available. These take place in Moonlit Isles, Twilight Maze and Eclipsed Hall, with each room providing something required for the next. Once you’ve obtained Astralight Lumen, you can return to Custodian’s Repository and collect the seal.

How to Get the ESO Custodian’s Repository Gryphon Seal

The secret in Custodian’s Repository requires Astralight Lumen, which is obtained by completing the hidden bell puzzle in Eclipsed Hall.

Once you’ve obtained Astralight Lumen, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the Arcanum Wing of the Nowhere Vault.
  2. Continue through the challenges until you reach Custodian’s Repository.
  3. Locate the Astral Tear on the right side of the room.
  4. Interact with the Astral Tear while Astralight Lumen is available to claim the Arcanum Timeward Seal.
  5. Return to the Sage’s Trove to use the seal on its corresponding barrier.

The Astral Tear interaction is the secret objective. Completing the room’s normal challenge without Astralight Lumen won’t award the seal.

How to Get Astralight Lumen in ESO

Astralight Lumen is obtained in Eclipsed Hall, but you must complete the Moonlit Isles and Twilight Maze secrets first.

The three rooms form a connected sequence, and the items earned along the way are needed to unlock the next stage.

Step 1: Get the Resonating Core in Moonlit Isles

Begin in Moonlit Isles, one of the Lunar Path challenge rooms.

Progress through the floating islands until you reach the final island, where three rotating pillars control a series of hidden bridges.

Interact with the pillars to activate the bridges leading towards the secret island. The bridge configuration can vary, so watch where each bridge appears rather than relying on one fixed combination.

Once you’ve connected the hidden bridges, use the return portal and make your way back to the earlier checkpoint island. The secret bridge route begins from this checkpoint, not directly beside the three pillars.

Cross the temporary bridges towards the secret island. The bridges are timed, so identify the route before attempting the crossing.

At the destination, destroy the Corrupted Shrine and collect the Resonating Core.

This item is needed for the hidden objective in Twilight Maze.

Step 2: Get Cantor’s Starsong in Twilight Maze

With the Resonating Core collected, continue to Twilight Maze.

This challenge involves stealth, and you’ll need to find a small senche cub named Little Soft Boots.

Remain in stealth while searching for the cub. Avoid attracting enemies or activating traps, as player testing suggests that disrupting the stealth objective can cause Little Soft Boots to disappear.

The cub becomes visible when you approach its location. One documented route found Little Soft Boots on the left side after using the gong assistance, although that location hasn’t been confirmed as a guaranteed spawn.

Once you’ve found Little Soft Boots, follow the cub towards a concealed area containing a stone statue.

Interact with the statue using the Resonating Core obtained from Moonlit Isles.

This awards Cantor’s Starsong, which is required for the next puzzle in Eclipsed Hall.

If Little Soft Boots disappears before reaching the hidden area, you may need to reset the room and attempt the stealth sequence again.

Step 3: Complete the Eclipsed Hall Bell Puzzle

Eclipsed Hall is the final prerequisite for the ESO Custodian’s Repository Gryphon Seal.

Enter Eclipsed Hall with Cantor’s Starsong available and complete the room’s normal objective involving the lanterns.

Once the exit becomes available, remain inside the challenge room.

To complete the secret:

  1. Find the mallet near the exit portal.
  2. Collect the mallet and return to the bell chamber.
  3. Ring the central bell again.
  4. Look for the surrounding bells that have turned blue.
  5. Ring each of the blue bells, leaving the other bells untouched.
  6. Complete the sequence to obtain Astralight Lumen.

Astralight Lumen is the effect needed to reveal the secret in Custodian’s Repository.

Make sure you finish the blue-bell puzzle before leaving Eclipsed Hall. Players have reported an issue where collecting the mallet and leaving before completing the secret caused the mallet to stop appearing on subsequent visits.

This has been reported through the official ESO forums, although it hasn’t been confirmed as affecting every player.

To avoid potentially interrupting your progression, complete the entire bell sequence and obtain Astralight Lumen before using the exit portal.

Where to Find the Astral Tear in Custodian’s Repository

Once Astralight Lumen has been obtained, return to the Arcanum Wing and progress until Custodian’s Repository appears.

The Nowhere Vault uses randomized challenge room selection, so you may need another run before reaching the correct room.

When you enter Custodian’s Repository with Astralight Lumen available, you can access the hidden seal interaction.

The Astral Tear is on the right side of the room. Interact with it to obtain the Arcanum Timeward Seal.

You don’t need to complete another bell puzzle or collect an additional item inside Custodian’s Repository.

What to Do With the Arcanum Timeward Seal

The Arcanum Timeward Seal is one of three seals required for the Heir to the Sage’s Legacy achievement.

After collecting it, return to the Sage’s Trove and interact with the corresponding barrier.

The other two seals are obtained through separate Nowhere Vault secrets:

  • Lunar Path Seal: Obtained in The Lakehouse using Connoisseur’s Vision from the Cursed Castle secret chain.
  • Cursed Castle Seal: Obtained in Prison of the Unrepentant using Subjugating Mindspore from the Arcanum Wing.

Once all three seals have been collected, you can dispel the final barrier in the Sage’s Trove.

Completing the achievement rewards the Ancient Direnni Quasigriff mount.

ESO Custodian’s Repository Gryphon Seal Not Working

If the Astral Tear isn’t providing the expected interaction, the first thing to check is whether you’ve obtained Astralight Lumen.

Astralight Lumen is missing

Return to the Lunar Path challenges and confirm that you’ve completed the full secret sequence.

You need the Resonating Core from Moonlit Isles, Cantor’s Starsong from Twilight Maze and Astralight Lumen from Eclipsed Hall.

Simply completing Eclipsed Hall’s normal objective isn’t enough. You must also finish the blue-bell sequence.

The Astral Tear cannot be activated

If Astralight Lumen wasn’t obtained, reaching Custodian’s Repository won’t unlock the hidden seal.

Complete the Eclipsed Hall puzzle first, then return to the Repository.

If you already have Astralight Lumen, check the Astral Tear on the right side of the room. If the interaction still fails, it may be a progression issue rather than another missing puzzle step.

The Eclipsed Hall mallet is missing

Some players have reported being unable to collect the mallet again after leaving Eclipsed Hall without completing the secret.

If you’ve already collected the mallet during an earlier visit and it no longer appears, this may be related to the reported progression issue.

Players have also reported that abandoning the associated Rumor did not restore the missing interaction, so resetting the quest shouldn’t be treated as a guaranteed fix.

Custodian’s Repository isn’t appearing

Nowhere Vault challenge rooms are randomized, meaning you aren’t guaranteed to encounter Custodian’s Repository immediately after completing Eclipsed Hall.

Continue exploring the Arcanum Wing on subsequent runs until the room appears.

The important requirement is having Astralight Lumen available when you reach the Repository.

Completing the ESO Custodian’s Repository Gryphon Seal

The ESO Custodian’s Repository Gryphon Seal is obtained by unlocking Astralight Lumen in the Lunar Path Wing and using it to access the Astral Tear interaction in Custodian’s Repository.

Once you’ve collected the Arcanum Timeward Seal, take it to the Sage’s Trove and continue collecting the remaining seals. Completing all three and dispelling the final barrier finishes Heir to the Sage’s Legacy and unlocks the Ancient Direnni Quasigriff mount.
